1 CORSA CHAPTER 130 CENTRAL NEW YORK CORVAIR CLUB MARCH 2015 IN THIS ISSUE Page 1 Prez sez Page 2 Roving Reporter Recall Page 3 - activities Page 4 kitchen corner 2012 club officers Page 5 secretary s report THE PREZ SEZ Today is February 13th and I am sending my monthly message on the early side for a change. Tomorrow is Valentines Day and me and my wife will be going on vacation. We will be taking a cruise to the Caribbean to escape these sub zero temperatures. We have less than 24 hours before our departure, can't come fast enough. For your information, Tim's favorite ice cream, Creamsickles. Creamsickle is up for adoptation, contact Tim for details Well I am going to keep this months Presidential short, after all February is the shortest month of the year. To all of our members still in central NY, stay warm. They say Spring is on its way, not quick enough. Oh yeah, it was -13 last night and about zero at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Phil CNYCC Page 6 Tim s Tech Time and Ramblin s Page 7 Sponsors and ads Page 8-- CREAMSICLE NEEDS A HOME FAST!! Creamsicle is a kitty who adopted Ron at his shop and is now homeless. Mark is unable to care for him and Tim and I have been going there every couple days to feed and care for him. We know nothing of his past but he s not trusting of us humans. He s a good mouser and is excellent at using his litter box. He sometimes will let us pet him and he once let me hold him for quite a while but he s afraid and will sometimes turn on you. From his reactions I tend to think he must have belonged to someone at one time but maybe had been abused. I don t think he s a feral cat because he sometimes does come and want attention. If you have room at your home and a heart to care for this little guy please let us know asap. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help us find a home for this poor little critter. PAGE 1

The valve cover race scheduled for after cruise-in Friday night, Syracuse has a large shopping mall for all who wish to visit. The Erie canal museum is located down town. Dave Robinson GEORGIA ROVING by Len Smith You're right, Tim. Not much roving going on down here, due mostly to the unusually cold winter down here. I know that it doesn't compare to the Central New York refrigerator, but it's unusual down here. We did get an ice storm on February 16 & 17 that took down some tree limbs and power lines and made driving a little dicey. Most of the ice has melted, but the cold temperatures will remain. One "rove" was a trip with Jody and Pam to Savannah for New Years. We did the usual "touristy" things, including a visit to the Juliette Low (founder of the Girl Scouts) house, a visit to a history museum, a riverboat cruise, shopping down by the river, lots of good eats, and a News Years Eve dinner and a musical show in downtown Savannah. While having dinner, we noticed a motorcycle rental shop across the street. There was a display of mini-trucks, mostly with three wheels. I took some pictures of our adventures which are on Readers Photos. Most of our time has been devoted to getting Sher back in shape after her shoulder replacement surgery. She's doing well, but life is kind of tough when your good arm is in a sling. I have to be her "right arm" and chauffeur, since she is not allowed to drive. She's making great progress and is ahead of where she is sup- posed to be in her healing and physical therapy. She'll be bowling before we know it. I've been going to MacDonalds on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the " breakfast bunch" to keep in touch with the outside world. We've also been attending the American Street Rodders' meetings the first Monday of each month. Other than that, not too much car activity going on. First swap meet of the year at Atlanta Speedway is scheduled for March 7. PAGE 2

3 HELP!!! We need someone to take over planning events for our club activities. If someone is creative and has time to plan events and tours it would be great however it also could be rotated throughout the club members so that, first of all, no one gets burned out but also that we may get to see some interesting things in other areas that we may not even be aware of. I ll be happy to keep the information updated on the net and, of course, in the Fan. Six of the months have events in place each year. We need events or tours for the months of February, March, April, May, August and October for each year. Please think about it and let us know at the next meeting. Thank you! ACTIVITIES Business meetings are held at Denny s Restaurant, 201 Lawrence Rd ( corner of Lawrence Rd and South Bay Rd ) in N Syracuse. The meeting will start at 7:00 but our waitress is available at 5:30 so you can have something to eat before the meeting if you d like. Meetings are in the back room, we re given separate checks and if you have an AARP card you can get a 20% discount on your meal. March 5th Regular business meeting Denny s April 2nd Regular business meeting Denny s May 2rd AN EVENT! Yippee! ( PLEASE NOTE A CHANGE IN THE DAY AND DATE. THE LOCATION IS CLOSED ON SUNDAY SO WE LL BE GOING ON SATURDAY MAY 2ND INSTEAD) Lew and Clara are organizing a tour to a Cortland Factory. Meet and leave McD s in LaFayette at 10:00. That s leave at 10:00. Dave McCarty will arrange lunch for us at a local restaurant after the tour. May 7th Regular business meeting Denny s June NO BUSINESS MEETING due to Recall June Recall at Hilton Garden Hotel If you have any ideas please let us know. Everything is always subject to change. If there s subjects or projects you d like covered at tech sessions, please let Tim know so we can plan that too. This all takes advance planning so please try to let us know early enough so we can make our events what you d like. 6 TIM S TECH TIME AND RAMBLIN S HI THERE, it sure is hard to believe another month has gone by already! We still travel to Ron s shop (@26 miles round trip!) to feed the orphaned cat every other day. He is still watching the place alone now. Not sure yet what the family will do. The snow in front of Ron s shop is now almost crotch deep. It is not easy to get from the road to the front door. Of course I am still working on the rampside in the shop, but it has progressed to almost the end. I have still got some tricky details to finish up. My next project is the 140HP motor for Phil s loadside. That is a real nice one. It is.060 with a 260 cam running on the beach. If I had more room, or If I had things located better before the dead one came in, I might be in better shape now. My truck needs new tires before this season, so I had hoped to clean up the wheels at that time. I may still risk dropping the motor for a change in cylinder heads and other work. I am removing the 4 carb setup and going with 110hp heads.so I am working on 3 projects at once now. The snow buildup on the shop roof finally came down in the alley. That took me a few hours of hard work to get to the door again. The snow was up to above the window on the door to the garage. At least the door held up to it this time. I hope next winter is not quite as intense as this one, with all the Corvair work and my ham radio activities. We are looking forward to a busy year of shows next year, including the nationals in Knoxville, Clark s, and of course our VT tour in the fall. I hope that the weather is better by the next time I write!! THINK RECALL 2015!!! (plan ahead) Regards, Tim Colson The busy little frozen Corvair shop in Memphis NY. These pictures are from in front of Ron s shop near Port Byron PAGE 6
