3 Notices The North Fort Myers Rec Center Staff wishes you and your family Health and Happiness this Holiday season! Building Closure - Annual Maintenance The North Fort Myers Recreation Center will be closed from Saturday, December 23, Sunday, January 7, 2018 Existing Weight Room members will have 16 days added to their membership. Normal operations resume at 7 am on Monday, January 8, Borrowing Equipment Starting December 1 st, 2017, anyone borrowing equipment from the front desk must use their membership card. We no longer accept collateral such as keys, phones, or membership cards that are attached to personal belongings. All equipment is labeled with a number. You must return the specific piece of equipment you borrow! Please be advised; when using a check to pay for programs, classes and meetings, Lee County Parks & Recreation requires a drivers license be provided along with the form of payment. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this new policy. 3

4 General Information Lifetime Membership All Lee County recreation centers are open to the public. The center amenities include: a fully equipped gymnasium with basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball courts; a weight room with locker room facilities; a game room and several large multi-purpose rooms for meetings and classes. Lifetime membership rates are $10 for individuals and $25 for a family. All members are issued a membership card to be presented at the main entrance to access the recreation center amenities. All members may enjoy the gymnasium and game room during available hours. Registration fees may apply to participate in some classes and programs. Membership is valid at all Lee County recreation center locations: Estero Park & Recreation Center, Veterans Park & Recreation Center, and Wa-Ke Hatchee Park & Recreation Center. Weight Room The weight room is open during regular building hours. Weight room membership is honored in all Lee County Parks & Recreation weight room facilities. Members who are ages 14 & 15 may utilize the weight room if accompanied by a parent or guardian who also has a weight room membership. One month for $20, Six months for $80, and a full year for $120. Prices are per person. All pet supplies including wet or dry dog foods, toys, blankets, towels, Kleenex, trash bags, cat carriers, cat litter, bleach, cleaning supplies, dawn dish detergent, and other pet supplies are accepted. Program Changes SHARE Club - Lee County Parks & Recreation will host many of the social activities and fitness classes. Lee Health, in partnership with SHARE Club and Healthy Life Center, will continue to bring a variety of health and wellness lectures to the North Fort Myers and Wa-Ke Hatchee locations. 4

5 Jazzercise (Low Impact) # Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9-10 am $15 single class $30 per month (6 classes within the month) $45 unlimited monthly No Class: December 25, 27 & 29 Instructor: Maggie Hawkins Exercise Classes Maggie makes Jazzercise fun and exciting with creative moves to music, and her unique style of footwork. Dance your way to a slimmer, toned and more physically fit new you. Zumba # Tuesday 5:30-6:30 pm $5 per class No Class: December 26 Instructor: Sheryl Young Are you ready to party yourself into shape? Forget the workout, just lose yourself in the music and find yourself in shape at the original dance-fitness party. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Total Body Conditioning # Monday & Wednesday 5-6 pm (excluding days school is closed) - Age 18+ No Class: December 25 & 27 Instructor: Janice Stearns, Certified Personal Trainer Come sweat off the daily grind with this whole body workout program that will increase strength and flexibility. Invite your friends and family! Please bring your hand weights or resistance bands and mats to class. 6 Exercise Classes Gentle Yoga # Monday & Wednesday am $3 per class No Class: December 25 & 27 Instructor: Kathi Spayde Enhance flexibility, balance, breathing, posture and strength, while reducing stress and lowering anxiety in this class that focuses on physical and mental self-control through posture, breathing, and meditation. Sessions are wonderful and relaxing and you can challenge yourself at your own pace. Mats are available in class or bring your own. Meditation Friday 9-9:45 am No Class: December 29 Instructor: Joann Botta This ancient practice helps individuals train the mind and induce a mode of consciousness, to engage the mind for the benefit of health and well-being. Tai Chi Friday am & 11 am - Noon No Class: December 29 Instructor: Betty Newell / Joann Botta Tai Chi develops energy (chi) and not only exercises the muscles, but will strengthen all parts of the body. By practicing tai chi, you will gain more coordination, balance and simply more confidence in moving. Tai Chi is useful for both preventative medicine as well as restoring health after injury or illness. 6

7 Seniorcize # Monday, Wednesday & Friday 12:30-1:30 pm $3 single class $25 for 10 classes (punch card) No Class: December 25, 27 & 29 Instructor: Silvia Villanueva Senior Exercise Classes Build muscle strength and form good posture in this class. We will focus on imitation movement that should be done daily to stay independent. Senior Tai Chi Tuesday 9-10 am No Class: December 26 Instructor: Earl Delp Tai Chi develops energy (chi) and not only exercises the muscles, but will strengthen all parts of the body. By practicing tai chi, you will gain more coordination, balance and simply more confidence in moving. Tai Chi is useful for both preventative medicine as well as restoring health after injury or illness. Senior Strength Training # Monday & Wednesday 9-9:45 am $2 per class No Class: December 25 & 27 Instructor: Kathi Spayde Dramatically improve strength, power, and mobility, while focusing on every major muscle group. Add definition, increase bone density and decrease body fat by increasing lean muscle. Music and laughter are included for a fun time. Consider bringing hand weights (1, 2, or 3 pounds) and water. 7

8 Bridge Tuesday & Friday 9-11:30 am Senior Card Socials No Class: December 26 & 29 A trick-taking card game using a standard 52-card deck. It is played by four players in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table. Euchre Tuesday & Friday 12-2 pm No Class: December 26 & 29 A trick-taking card game most commonly played with four people in two partnerships with a deck of 24, 28, or sometimes 32, standard playing cards. Hand & Foot Wednesday 11:30 am - 2:30 pm Friday 2:30-4:30 pm No Class: December 27 & 29 A card game played between two-to-six players in which one deck is needed per player. Use one deck more than the number of players, so for a four-handed game you'd use five 52-card decks plus ten jokers (270 cards). Each player is dealt two separate thirteen-card hands. The first is called the "hand", and the second is called the "foot". Double Pinochle Thursday 11:30 am - 3 pm No Class: December 28 Double-Deck Pinochle requires at least four players in teams of two. You use a deck of 80 cards, made up of 4 cards of each rank in every suit in the following order: A, 10, K, Q, and J. You can make this deck by combining two Pinochle decks and removing all the nines. This game involves bidding, drawing, trick-taking, and melding. 8

Improves coordination and balance, enhances self discipline. CPR CPR Certification # st Saturday of Each Month 10 am - 2 pm $75 per Class Instructor: Stella Toomey This video based course ensures consistency. Instructor led, hands on class format reinforces skills proficiency. American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Course: Completion Card is valid for two years. Family and Friends CPR Certification # st Saturday of Each Month 2:30-4 pm $25 per Class Instructor: Stella Toomey Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and other interested in learning how to save a life. 9

10 Hawaiian Dance Tuesday 11 am - 1 pm Instructor: Merline Mayo Dance Classes No Class: December 26 This exceptionally fun dance class is open for everyone to enjoy! Hula is a traditional art of movement through smooth bodily gestures and vocals. Line Dance Thursday 10 am - 12 pm Instructor: Elaine Marker Come join us in learning new dances! No partner is needed. No Class: December 28 Latin Dance # COMING IN JANUARY - Monday 6:30-8:30 pm $8 per class $30 per month Instructor: Luis and Clersida Garcia Come and join the fun as you learn to dance Latin Rhythms (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Argentine Tango, etc.) This class will provide basic steps, and progressively bring you to a level of confidence dancing to Latin music! Two instructors provide the male/female roles of the dances. The instructors, Luis and Clersida Garcia are native Latin Dancers with a strong background on the original way of performing the dances. The lessons will be adjusted to the level of experience of the participants. Join the fun in Dance with Me Latin Dances. Dress with comfortable clothes, and sole shoes preferably. 10

11 Chess Club Chess Club Monday 6-8:45 pm Enjoy friendly competition & free instruction. All ages and skill levels are welcome. No Class: December 25 Mahjong Mahjong Monday 11:30 am - 2:30 pm No Class: December 25 Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China during the Qing dynasty. It is commonly played by four players. Bluegrass Jam Tuesday 6-8 pm FREE Instructor: Terry Caldwell Bluegrass Jam No Session: December 26 Come out and join Terry for a Bluegrass Jam on the Rotary at the North Fort Myers Recreation Center. Bring your own chair and instrument (acoustic instruments only) or just come out to listen. 11

12 Arts & Crafts Crochet Monday 10:30-11:30 am No Class: December 25 Instructor: Barbara Fowler Join this beginner / continuing crochet class to learn to crochet or to brush up your techniques. We will learn how to read patterns, learn new stitches and fine tune skills. Bring your own materials. (4-ply yarn and an I or j hook). Crafts Wednesday 12:30-2 pm No Class: December 27 Instructor: Earlene Godwin Join us to help make lap ropes for cancer patients in our local hospital system. Art Social Thursday 9 am - 12 pm No Class: December 28 Bring your own canvas and art supplies. Join us for great social engagement! Ceramics # Monday & Friday 9 am - 1 pm $5 Yearly Fee $2 Daily Sitting Fee $5 Kiln Fee for items over 12 in any direction. 13 Special Programs Club Rec $100/Semester # Semester 2: Jan. 8, May 30, 2018 At Lee County Parks & Recreation, we encourage kids to be kids. Club Rec is an Open Access Program (grades 2-8) that provides an opportunity for children to choose their activities. We encourage them to learn, get involved in physical activity and explore their creativity. The Club Rec program is open on Lee County School days that are non county holidays. A recreation center membership is required to participate in this program. Fun Days # $15/day Children ages 6-13 can spend teacher in-service days having fun with friends. Hours are 7:30 am- 6 pm Please bring a bagged lunch, snacks, and a water bottle. Please wear appropriate foot wear that will allow you to run and play. A recreation center membership is required to participate in this program scheduled dates: Monday, February 19th Tuesday, February 20th Friday, March 30th How to Register for Activities 1. Online: Go to Click Online Registration on the left side of the page. Create an account by selecting click here next to the need an account. Follow registration instructions. Sign in using your User Name and Password Click The Location drop down menu and select North Fort Myers Recreation Center, then click search. Check the shopping cart next to the desired activity. Multiple activites can be chosen for this one transaction. Click Enroll Now at the bottom of the page and follow further instructions. 2. 16 North Fort Myers Community Park Located behind the North Fort Myers Library off North Tamiami Trail (Business Rte 41), this 51 acre park offers lots of activities and recreation for all ages. There are (4) four baseball fields, (2) two football fields and one practice field. Also available to the public are (24) twenty-four shuffleboard courts (separate membership required), playground, pavilion and a disc golf course. The annual Lee County Parks & Recreation Parking Sticker offers 12 months of parking at most regional parks, beaches and boat ramps in Lee County. Annual Parking Sticker Cost is $60 Parking stickers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Lost, stolen or mutilated parking stickers shall be replaced for a $5 fee. Parking stickers must be permanently affixed to the left rear bumper of your vehicle or the bottom left corner of rear window for validation. No exceptions for rental vehicles. Failure to properly display your parking sticker in a visible manner on the left rear bumper or window of the vehicle it is registered to may result in a citation and parking fine. Each permitted vehicle must have its own sticker. Stickers are non-transferable. PARKING FEE EXEMPTION: Vehicles displaying a disabled Veterans license plate or vehicles with mechanical modifications specifically for accommodation of a disabled driver or passenger when parked in a space designated for the disabled are not subject to parking fee. 20
