2 Emmett Forrest. The collection features hundreds of items from the life and career of Andy Griffith in movies, television and music as well as a variety of memorabilia. There are props from the Andy Griffith Show and Matlock given by Andy Griffith himself. The collection also includes items donated by cast and crew from the Andy Griffith Show. Visit the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History, with over 35,000 sq ft of exhibit space over 4 floors. See what life was like for Native Americans and early settler to the hollows ; experience an authentic turn of the century country store; learn the history behind the largest open face granite quarry in the world; listen to the Old Time music that it is unique to this region; learn about many hometown favorites such as Donna Fargo, Tommy Jarrell, Andy Griffith and Chang and Eng Bunker (the original Siamese twins) Arrive for a backstage tour of the Andy Griffith Playhouse. A visitor s center, interpretive programs and nature trail are open to the public. They had left behind the comfortable limits and familiar rhythms of European civilization for a boundless and unpredictable world in which vigilance, courage, and endurance were needed just to survive. Manteo is a beautiful town located by the sound on Roanoke Island. You will find many craft, antique, up-scale specialty shops and unique boutiques located in the nooks and crannies of this charming town. You may choose to visit on your own the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse and stroll along the waterfront boardwalk of George Washington Creef Memorial Park. 2:15pm Dinner Evening Roanoke Island Festival Park blends history, education, and the arts in a lively celebration of Roanoke Island as the Birthplace of English America. Explore the island s unique role in history from the time before England s first attempt to colonize North America in the late 16 th century to the early 20 th century. Enjoy dinner (included) at Basnight s Lone Cedar Café. For generations, Outer Banks families made their livings and their daily meals from the bounty of local waters, caught fresh every day. Group will divide and rotate from the hotel for the Wild Horse Adventure Tour. First Group departs Remaining group departure time TBA. Continue with a Corolla Wild Horse Adventure Tour on 18-passenger Humvees. Visit the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Swan Beach. NOTE: Feeding or getting closer than 50 feet to a wild horse in an arrest able offense in Currituck County. Enjoy lunch on your own and free shopping time and explore at Timbuck II Shopping Village. 3

4 Afternoon: Dinner: Tour the Whalehead Club, a beautiful beach mansion with a copper roof, yellow exterior, and five stately chimneys. The magnificent display of Tiffany lighting fixtures, fine furnishing and elevator was something very unusual for the Outer Banks residents when built. Sold and once badly deteriorated, today the Whalehead Club is an ongoing process in restoration to its former grandeur. Visit the Currituck Beach Lighthouse at Corolla, the only light in North Carolina that is still housed in its original structure. The tower is 163 feet tall. First put into service on December 1, 1875, it still serves as an aid to navigation. Each of the many lighthouses in the region received distinctive painted exteriors to aid identifications except the light at Corolla. It was distinguished by being left unpainted, allowing the visitors to view nearly one million bricks! NOTE: Groups must call if more than 30 minutes change in arrival time. NOTE: A waiver must be signed by all passengers even if they do not climb. Waiver to be provided upon arrival. Afternoon: Visit the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Hatteras, a North Carolina State Regional History Museum, is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the maritime history and shipwrecks of the Outer Banks. Photo opportunity of the outside of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, America s tallest and most recognizable lighthouse, recently picked up and moved 1/3 mile. This lighthouse in the international symbol of the North Carolina coast. Visit Museum of the Sea, with exhibits on the area s Civil War History (The Monitor and The Merrimac), WWI and WWII Submarine activity, and seaside life and industry. Continue and enjoy lunch on your own in Cape Hatteras. Visit (and try to pronounce) Chicamacomico Life Saving Station, dating back to 1874, where hundreds of shipwrecked souls were rescued during the days of transport by wind-driven sailing ships. 4
