4 Prayer, Praise, and the Lighter Side Jack Cline, 87, (club member Doug Cline s father) passed away March 16, Services were Thursday March 22, 2018 at the Evangelical Free Church in Franklin. He was born north of Riverton and later moved south of Riverton where he attended rural school through 8th grade and graduated from Riverton High in He grew up in the Dirty Thirties and experienced hard times. He farmed until 1952 when he was inducted into the United States Army and his machinery was sold. While on furlough, he married Ruth Ann Sibert in a small ceremony in Red Cloud and they had 3 children: Douglas, (club member), Linda and Lorie. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was discharged in1954. He served as an A & E mechanic where he found his love of airplanes. He was promoted to Sergeant CT and involved in combat duty with the artillery unit. He received the Bronze Service star, the United Nations Service Metal, the National Defense Service Metal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. Upon arriving home, he worked for the Corps of Engineers and helped build the Harlan County Dam. Then they bought the A.T. Ready place and returned to farming, rising various crops and livestock. He started the seed business on his farm by growing Atlas Sargo, processing and selling wholesale and resale seed. They later moved the business to downtown Franklin, constructing 2 new buildings, known as Cline Seed & Farm Supply, Inc. Besides seed and feed, he sold buildings, bins, hardware and other inventory. He expanded by selling seed to Mexico for many years. He belong to NE Crop Improvement, Western Seed Association, the Franklin Fair Board, the Macon Lions, and the Am. Legion to just name a few. 4 PVAMA NEWS He ws always doing something as he didn t like sitting in the house. He loved to hunt, fish and generally the outdoors as evident by his nightly drives checking on crops, grass, cattle and wildlife. He had a love for planes and had his pilot s license and his own airplane until a few years ago. He was always trying something new including his Plainview Ostrich Farm where he raised ostrich, emu and even pheasants. His greatest love was for his wife, Ruth, his kids, grandkids, great grandkids and host of other friends and family who called his Grandpa Jack. He leaves his wife of 67 years of Franklin, his son Doug and Denise Cline of Riverton, daughter Linda Olsen of Minden, daughter Lorie Cline of Campbell; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 brother, 4 sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded by his parents, 3 brothers, 1 grandson and 1 granddaughter. Doug s address is 39th Road, Riverton, NE The Lighter Side Man Finds Grandpa s Minneapolis Moline Tractor January 09, 2017 This story makes me smile. Macon, IL farmer Paul Butler spent years searching for his grandfather s Minneapolis Moline U tractor. It was the first tractor Butler ever drove. After years of diligent searching, he finally found it. I ll let him relay the tale: My grandfather retired in 1976, said Butler. One of his tractors was a Minneapolis U, it was the first tractor I ever drove-because it had a hand clutch. I was about 8 years old. The farm went out of the family as my father was not a farmer. I always wanted to farm and started back farming in One of the first things I did was contact the auctioneer that sold the U and got the serial numbers, but after trying to find the seller it was a dead end. I probably called 30 auctioneers all over the Midwest over the next decade, but never could find a match. Finally one came up about 15 miles from home-and I called. I could not believe it! My dad told me you don t want that old tractor, it s just going to take up shed space. We went and looked at it and found grandpa s handwriting on the hood and in the manuals. Dad then said You have to buy this tractor. Butler did buy it. Here s a picture of how it looked when they found it: We just got it restored, said Butler. We were able to protect his handwriting on the hood by clear coating over it before painting it. Here are pictures of grandpa s handwriting on the U, the restoration process and the beautiful finished product: Hats off to Paul Butler, for having a dream and working his way back into farming in 2003 and for the determination and patience to doggedly pursue a part of his family s farming past that meant the world to him...the tractor he learned to drive as an 8 year old buy. His grandpa s Minneapolis Moline U. pvama.org

Every day I walk down the street and tell passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later, and with whom. I give them pictures of my family, my dog and of me gardening. Taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch and doing what anybody and everybody does every day. I also listen to their conversations. Then I give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I like them. And guess what? It' working! I already have four people "following" me: Two police officers, a private investigator, and a psychiatrist. pvama.org
