4 A great meal flowed on until early morning! Just before midnight we were joined by two lively couples who were well and truly ready to welcome in the New Year! DARLINGTON POINT RALLY 30 December 2011 to 2 January 2012 What a darling little place to see the New Year in! The reporter and her chauffeur were the first to arrive on Wednesday. Thursday saw the Wood, Miller and Slaats roll in. The Miller s, being long term campers, had bought a large tarpaulin and necessary equipment to set up a much needed and appreciated sun cover to supply us with shade and a focal point for morning teas, happy hours, meals and lots of conversations that took place on this rally. Friday started with a morning tea, followed by a walk into town to explore and purchase Lotto tickets in the $31million draw. To date it looks like the Lotto office has been unable to find any of us! On the way back to the park a very welcome and cold drink was consumed at the local pub The Punt as it is known. After lunch a short drive into Griffith was in order to replenish food and drink, ready for New Years Eve. A relaxing walk around the town and a bit of retail therapy was followed by a drive out to Lake Wyangan which is a fantastic area, containing many animal enclosures and a great free camp. Well worth keeping in mind. After tea at the Griffith Leagues Club we headed home to find the Edsor s had arrived. Our rally component was now complete. Saturday was a very hot and therefore lazy day. David, Sandra and myself headed to the local swimming pool for a cool down. As evening approached, all hands were busy preparing a delicious lamb roast and veg dinner with apple pie and ice cream to follow. Wine and liquors were in good supply. Unfortunately, Sunday morning saw Ray and Edna leave for home. It was good to see Edna who had made a great effort to attend, despite the pain. As the temperature overstepped the 40 degree mark the rest of us lazed around (getting to be a bit of a habit) and some of us even had a short nap. A barbeque was enjoyed Sunday night with kebabs and snags and using up any leftover vege s and pie. Monday arrived and it was time for David and I to head for home. We left Ted, Sandra, Peter, Wilma, Joe and Mary to enjoy the next few days exploring the wineries in the district, enjoying the food in the Club and having a get together with friends of Wilma and Peter. From our caravan to yours, we wish everybody a happy, safe and healthy Lesley Fleming CARAVAN WEIGHTS AND TOW VEHICLE WEIGHTS Courtesy: Waine Summerfield We need to understand what all this talk about caravan weights and tow vehicle weights are all about. Here are some steps you can take to carry out the practical exercise that will answer your vehicle and caravan weights to see if you are within both manufacturers limits. Or is it time to do some culling.
5 Take your vehicle and van over a weighbridge loaded with what you normally go to a rally with, weigh both individually. This weight is known as GVM: Gross Vehicle Mass for tow vehicle and ATM: Aggregate Trailer Mass for your van. Now add the towball weight to the GVM weight shown on your weighbridge ticket, then subtract this number from the vehicle manufacturers specified GVM. How did you go? Have you got a positive or negative number? With the caravan, add the towball weight to the weighbridge ticket weight. Now subtract this number from the ATM shown on your caravan compliance plate. Have you got a positive or negative number? Now add both new GVM and ATM together and that adds up to what we all know as GOING CARAVANNING. My example of weights Our 18 6 Imperial van Tare Mass 1440 Kg Gross Trailer Mass 1810 Kg Aggregate Trailer Mass 1970 Kg Ball Weight 216 Kg 200 Series Landcruiser Specified Tare Weight 2650 Kg Maximum Towing Weight 3500Kg Specified Gross Vehicle Tare 3300 Kg Maximum Ball Weight 350 Kg Waine Summerfield RESORT TRAILERS The Trailer Specialists Trailer Sales Trailer and Caravan Repairs Parts and Accessories 36 Stephens Road, Queanbeyan Phone: HUSBAND STORE Courtesy: Ron Armstrong A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:
6 You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads: Floor 1 - These men have jobs. PLEASE NOTE: To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a New Wives store just across the street. The first floor has wives that love sex. The second floor has wives that love sex and have money and like beer. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited. She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads: Floor 2 - These men have jobs and love kids. 'That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.' So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads: Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love kids, and are extremely good looking. 'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.. She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads: Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love kids, are drop-dead good looking and help with housework. 'Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!' Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads: Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love kids, are drop-dead gorgeous, help with housework, and have a strong romantic streak... She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads: Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

Sandra again stressed the need for Rally Marshals and Gas Bottle Reporters for each rally. Social Convenor Ray Swift. There will be a visit organised to the National Gallery in February to see the Renaissance Exhibition Anniversary Dinner there will be a new list next meeting which should have the actual cost noted. Payments will be requested at the March meeting. Ray asked members to let him know of names and addresses of previous members so they can be invited. The room will hold 200 people, and he would like to see that many attend. NSW Caravan Association Ray Swift The State Rally is on 2-4 March at Forbes. Cost is $ Venue is Forbes Show Ground Gas Bottle Editor John Jenkin John asked for articles to keep coming in Web Convenor Joe Vavra Nothing to report. Joe wished everyone a happy New Year 15 th National Rally, 2013 Darryl Poole Darryl is still waiting on an updated list of Canberra registrations. 16 th National Rally, 2016 Ray Swift Nothing to report GENERAL BUSINESS Rallies Jim reported that 59 vans have attended only one rally this year. Four vans were at Darlington Point and only six have been registered for Gundagai. Comments were asked for. Richard Hay suggested having meetings at rallies active members would then be having a say. Sandra Miller, who was a member of Lachlan Valley Caravan Club who have their meetings at rallies, suggested that this would only work for a small club.
10 Richard Hay suggested having every second meeting at a rally as a trial. John Peers suggested asking people why they do not attend rallies. Judy Tregonning is a member of the A Van Club. They have meetings at rallies. They only have four or five rallies a year. Judy says someone suggests a rally site and puts it up and then is hostess for that rally. Rally Convenor books the site, and members do their own bookings. Ray Swift says rallies are stereotyped with little activities. Suggested a better programme. The Vintage Caravan Group have a week long rally at Forbes with 200 vans coming, because they know there will be a good programme. Richard Hay remarked that other things stop people from going to rallies, eg. the Canberra Day weekend has a lot of things going on in Canberra, and the Christmas period is busy as is the long weekend in January Ray Edsor asked if that meant we do not have rallies on long weekends or Easter. Stewart Westwood suggested going to places closer. Sandra Miller said people wanted to go to new places, but then do not go. Peter Hilborn said that rallies of late have conflicted with family weekends. Harry Allard suggested that we look at our two rallies every month and perhaps go back to one rally a month. Ray Swift suggested that after these discussions, the Rally Convenors meet with the committee and re-look at the programme Stickers Joe Slaats has been to see about the UV protected stickers with the caravan club logo and has some prices. Jim Donlan suggested bringing that up at a committee meeting. Weight Distribution - Waine Summerfield spoke about weights of caravans and tow vehicles with emphasis on the distribution of weight. Dump Points Lyn Fitzroy has been staying at the O Connor Caravan Park and asked them about the location of a dump point. They advised her to go to the showground, which was closed for eight weeks. She remarked that a city the size of Canberra should have more than one public dump point. ANGRY LOTTO Winner, Bob Henson Second, Ann Bell - $47 to kitty NEXT MEETING to be held on 12 February 7.30pm at the Southern Cross Club. CLOSE The meeting closed at 8.40pm
