11 Summer Getaway to Mackinaw City ~ August 22 25, 2013 This is a fun time to get to know everyone. We do lots of socializing between eating, daily ice cream runs and our bonfires on the beach at night. With all of the Corvettes arriving, downtown Mackinaw City is the place to be Friday night. We usually eat at the Pancake Chef because they can accommodate our large group and they have a very nice buffet dinner. We don t have solid plans for Saturday s dinner yet. Caravan Details We are open to suggestions on where to plan a day trip for Friday. Lodging Details We will caravan from Clark Corners (Clark Road and Old US 27) at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, breaking for lunch at the Houghton Lake Big Boy. No caravan is planned for Friday at this time. 19 National Corvette Museum Updates Motorsports Park Interest Picking up Speed Corvette Racing Program Manager Doug Fehan, along with #3 Crew Chief Danny Binks, and championship winning driver of the #4 Corvette, Tommy Milner, were at the Bash sharing their excitement for what is happening with the Motorsports Park. This is something Corvette owners have been dreaming about for years, said Doug. Now we are on the cusp of actually making this happen. This completes the circle of wanting a Corvette someday, to buying one, to watching it be built, to learning how to drive it the way it was designed to be driven. When I m here for the ground breaking, (during the 60th Anniversary Celebration at the NCM on June 27-28th) I ll be working that shovel harder than anyone. The $1 million dollar challenge needed to get the West Track included in the initial construction phase got closer to happening too as over $185,000 in donations and commitments took us to the $693,000 mark. We only have one month to go to raise the remaining $307,000 and hope that you ll join the effort to make it happen. For more information go to We Insure That! In December of 1966 Astronaut Neil Armstrong was given a /390hp Corvette Coupe as part of an appreciation program initiated by Jim Rathman Chevrolet. The man who would later be the first person to set foot on the moon, had the car for a year before it went to another NASA employee where it remained off of the radar until 2012 when it was purchased by its current owner. The NCM Insurance Agency is very proud to have the honor of protecting this unique piece of history. We want to protect your piece of history too! Check us out at or give us a call at Passion and history are our specialty. Marque of Excellence Exhibit As we get closer to the 60th Anniversary Celebration of Corvette, what could be a more fitting exhibit than the Marque of Excellence Corvette Exhibit running from May 11-September 13, This 14 car exhibit features Corvettes that have earned NCRS Top Flight and Bloomington Gold honors, making each of them a beautiful example of Corvette history. We Collect Corvette Did you know that in addition to being an auto museum, we also serve as a library and archives for all things Corvette? Enthusiasts like you have donated various artifacts, books, magazines and more which helps us grow our collection - like Howard Maxwell of Morriston, FL who recently donated a 1961 shop manual; Ivan Schrodt who donated advertising proofs and a letter that GM sent to dealers when the Museum opened; and Gary Pippel of Canton, GA who donated various Corvette ads, articles, a 1998 Corvette Convertible press kit and 2001 Corvette press kit. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation we are happy to acknowledge your donation for tax deduction purposes and we will periodically feature such donations in enews. To inquire about making a donation, contact Betty in our Library & Archives at or her Land Clearing Begins, Fundraising Continues Even though the Motorsports Park groundbreaking ceremony is just over a month away, we are already preparing for the work to begin. Check out our video on You Tube to see some trees being turned! Since last week we have had seven June 2013 Page 19

20 National Corvette Museum Updates additional acres committed, bringing our total raised to $868,000. We're just $132,000 short of our $1 million goal with just over two weeks left! Remember: the $1 million mark will ensure we include one of the road courses in the initial construction! How can you help? Every dollar matters! No contribution is too small. So, we challenge you to log on to our website and be a part of the project. Jim Harbaugh to Pace Indy 500 in 2014 Corvette Stingray Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, drove the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Pace Car to lead the pack of 33 racers to the start of the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 this past Sunday. 1 Lap of Kentucky Event Date Set Our popular Museum in Motion "1 Lap of Kentucky" event has been set for October 2-5 and October This year not only will a Kentucky State Police trooper lead the pack, but participants will also get to stop at their facility to experience one unique aspect of trooper training, plus the chance to take part in an activity that is only open to troopers and candidates. The trip will also include many of the "Only One" attractions - tourist locations that are unique to Kentucky. Stay tuned to enews to be updated on when registration is open, and what other exciting activities will be happening! Harbaugh, who took the 49ers to the Super Bowl this year, is no stranger to Indianapolis - serving as a quarterback for the Colts NFL team Harbaugh is also a racing fan and a principal at Panther Racing, which fields the two-car, Chevroletpowered IndyCar team including the No. 4 National Guard Chevrolet and the No. 60 Sunoco "Turbo" Chevrolet. Harbaugh is also no stranger to Bowling Green, KY. His dad, Jack Harbaugh, served as head coach for the Western Kentucky University Hilltopper football team, and Jim served as an assistant coach for WKU from while still playing in the NFL. Harbaugh's stint behind the wheel of the Laguna Blue Pace Car marks a record 12th time the Corvette has served in the role, starting in NCM Receives 2013 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site offering over 100 million candid reviews, opinion and photos of hotels, restaurants, attractions and more by travelers, has awarded the National Corvette Museum with a 2013 Certificate of Excellence.
