SC COLLECTION NOTE This collection features information and documentation of the National Trust s Rural Heritage Development Initiative (RHDI) which is a three-year project funded through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, to implement preservation-based economic development strategies in two rural pilot regions: an eight county region in central Kentucky and a fifteen county region in the Arkansas Delta. Lead partners within the Central Kentucky Heartland region are Preservation Kentucky, Inc., and the Kentucky Heritage Council with participation from the Dry Stone Conservatory. Work in central Kentucky focuses on the region s architectural, cultural, and heritage assets including historic traditional downtowns, significant historic sites, agricultural heritage, and cultural heritage that unites the area. The Kentucky pilot region services began on March 1, The counties included in the Central Kentucky Heartland region are Boyle, Green, LaRue, Marion, Mercer, Nelson, Taylor, and Washington counties. These counties were selected for their historic resources, past history of regional efforts, and international appeal for their role in the upcoming Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial celebration.
