3 HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2017 was another good year for the club. Attendance at monthly meetings was also strong. When people attend meetings I believe it's because they enjoy being there. We have always tried to be professional during our meetings but still have some fun. I stand by a firm set of rules - and Rule No 5 is to have a little fun every day, it helps to keep me sane!. I hope you enjoyed the programs we were able to put together as well. With Perry, W8AU as new Vice-President I have pledged to help him with programs for the new year. I already have some new ideas for programs for 2018 and I know Perry also has some great ideas to. Plan on joining us for the year and see what we have in store for everyone. Club participation at our events was also better than ever, including Field Day, the Swiss Festival and out annual Hamfest. We all appreciated your help and all our events were very successful. During the year our club repeaters continued to deliver solid performance Several other projects were completed throughout the year thanks to the officers and members. I hope you will continue to support our club in 2018 and our new officers look forward to serving you.. If we all do our part we will have another successful year! 3 Supply last year, it's nice to know we have a great ham radio store just up the road in Akron. DXE has posted a new video tour hosted by Tim Duffy, K3LR that shows the new store and lots of info on all the new products they now carry. They even have a new guest operator table where you can tune around using the newest ham gear. Just point your internet web browser to and look under Tech Articles. OTHER STUFF Ralph, K8HSQ has indicated we should again have use of the hospital conference room on some Saturday mornings during the early part of this year and we hope to have a few mentoring programs to offer the club. We are always looking for topics for programs. That's it for now, I hope to see many of you at our annual banquet and at monthly meetings! 73 s Terry N8ATZ DX ENGINEERING The last several years DX Engineering (DXE) has held an open house during the first few months of the year that was very enjoyable and fun to attend. They just announced their Winter Sale day on Saturday, January 20 from 9: AM till Noon. With the closing of Amateur Electronics

4 4 dues and pay for dinner. He need a head count for dinner to provide to the Grange (There is a minimum of 35 people required.), the money can be paid at the Grange the night of the event. The address is: 1421 Battlesburg RD SE, East Sparta, Ohio Phone 330/ MEAL: The meal for the evening will consist of 2 meat dinners; Swiss steak and Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, green beans, applesauce, rhubarb sauce, bread & butter, dessert and drinks. PAYMENT: You can pay for the meal either tonight or at the banquet Checks must be made out to MARC. New Business: Tony KD8UXK identified that according to Code of Regulations tonight is when the time and place for the Annual Meeting is to be figured out. Article II section 6b of the Code of Regulations Regular meetings shall be held at least once each month, the number, and time, and place shall be determined by vote According to Article II section 6B. Nothing was budgeted for occupying the Senior Center for the coming year. (Perry W8AU identified it as s moog point because the Senior Center had drop the fee. Don W8DEA asked when the charge had been dropped. Perry answered about 6 months ago. (Gary had for the first 6 months of Although we had been meeting at the Hospital for almost a year. It was also thought the training class had used up the paid funds.) The classes this spring are not to be charged. There was a discussion on the starting time next with the comments on the couple of month trial of starting at 7:30 pm rather than 8 pm. There was identified a few comments for the 7:30 pm time and one had suggested 7 pm. Tony identified that needs to be voted on tonight. Training can be held on Saturday and no extra cost (Pam Hughes at Affinity Hospital is the contact person for scheduling events. It was suggest to have at least 2 week lead time.) Doors lock at 8 pm so if a little late the doors may be locked. Speakers from out of town speakers might be hard; but only a portion of time. Ralph K8HSQ made a motion to keep business meetings at Affinity Hospital and starting time at 7:30 pm the first Friday of the month. First Pat KA8DAL, second Mike KD8OTK. Motion passed (with one opposed, and a few obtained). Tony, need for a few changes, noted official procedure to code of regulations. Suggest to change so time can be changed each month at the previous meeting. Another is for the executive committee, suggest to have a committee board, with all officers and the trustees so they could meet in case of an emergency and take care of the matter. The last revision would be presented to the members to be voted on. This could be done anytime of the year (not just the annual meeting). Ralph K8HSQ made a motion to form a committee (5 people board and trustees) to formulate the wording for change of Code of Regulations. Code of regulation Article 8 section A was read by Tony. Tony identified the online on the website is an old version, A request was made for the Code to be place on the Website. (Terry N8ATZ said it is do-able but time consuming to hand type in.) Terry N8ATZ said it could be updated with some time because it needs to be hand typed onto the website. Tony identified that he had a few printed updated copies with him tonight, and that the update on the website could be done once the changes are made. (But not updating the website until after the changes were voted on by 2/3; but not having the member knowledgeable about the current by laws (Code of Regulations) and any changes. This is going against the intent of having members make an informed decision for or against the changes.) The need to set the time and place for the annual Executive Board meeting. (There was a suggestion to have it just after the first of the year. It was assumed prior to the Jan 6 Christmas dinner.) Also, we need to decide what, if any changes need to be made to the bylaws, which would have to be voted at the January banquet meeting. Election of officers: The officers and one trustee (3 year term for the trustee) are to be elected. Tony then opened the floor to nominations for a trustee. Terry N8ATZ and Don W8DEA were nominated and were voted on by secret ballot. Trustees passed out the ballots and counted them with Terry N8ATZ being elected as trustee. From the previous month nominations were made for: President Tony KD8UXK, Vice-President Perry W8AU Treasurer Mike. KB8OTK Vern Sproat KE8VS for Secretary. More nominations were requested; but none were found for these offices. So the above were elected by proclamation.

5 With all business concluded, Tony asked for a motion to adjourn. First Jim WA8GXM, second Don W8DEA seconded. Motion passed. The 50:50 raffle was won by Chris KD8TNF and donated back to the club $ Thank you Chris! Also a meter and an ARLL 100 anniversary donated coin was raffled off. After the meeting, there was a short break for coffee, soda and donuts for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to all who helped provide the treats. Then Perry W8AU presented an interesting video on the MFJ manufacturing facility. Thank you Perry for the enjoyable (and educational) evening! The January meeting will be the Annual Christmas Dinner Meeting begins 6:00 pm at the Grange 1421 Battlesburg RD SE, East Sparta, Ohio Phone 330/ Anybody attending the 90 th can receive a patch free by asking Mike KD8OTK at the next meeting. Submitted by Vern KE8VS 5 SECRETARY S REPORT, KEY TO PI- TURES ON PAGE 8 The Secretary's report in this issue of Feedback starts on page 2 and continues on page 4 and finishes on page 5 of this issue. It Is a very detailed report, the first from out new Secretary, Vern Sproat, KE8VS. I usually insert Terry s column on page 3 on any given issue and this one was no exception. But the Secretary's report caught me by surprise because of its length. I really appreciate it though, it makes my job a little easier! Thanks Vern! We should know at a later date. This event was deemed a success! UNIVERSAL RADIO AD The Universal Radio Ad in the next column is still the old ad from their old address. I have the new ad but it s in PDF format. I ll try to get the new one working! As is it takes a whole page to work!
