Minutes approved. Treasurer Report Maggie McPhail Hoping to have a new treasurer soon. Principal s Report Greg Johnson 3/2 - Science Fair - in library. Top 10 science fair projects will move on to the county Science Fair. 3/4 - Staff Appreciation Lunch 3/4 - Mr. Nettle returns. Starting with 1st grade. Will be here on and off all the way through 3/14 or 3/15. 3/4 - End of Trimester Lots of class field trips coming up in March. 3/17-3/18 - Book Swap - MPR 3/18-5th Grade Books to Bravo assembly - 9 AM 3/18 - Report cards go home 3/29-4/1-5th Grade Walker Creek trip Some Dixie students interviewed Bud Van Winkle (former Principal of Dixie) for the Dixie 50th Anniversary. Maybe get an ice cream cake for the teachers, and then scoops for everyone else.
2 School board coming 4/18 or 4/19 for meeting. Teacher s Report Maggie McPhail for Stacy Nii / Tracey Osterman Ms. Nii ed Maggie but has little to report. Teachers have been working hard promoting CanDo contest. Committee Reports Site Council Maggie McPhail for Rochelle Simurdiak They are working on a staff survey and should be finished next Tuesday. CAN DO! Patti Bender and Maggie McPhail Maggie: As of last week, we were at 71% for our family participation, which is about 3% below where we were last year at this time. We are hoping that we make up that difference in the last week of the contest. Total district-wide participation is at 61%. We did start the whole FGC a week late, so that does affect participation numbers compared to previous years. Patti: We are in the process of evaluating whether or not to have an auction next year. Only 9% of the parent community actually attended the auction this year. Should we be doing something that involves more of the community? The $90/ person does not even cover the cost of the food and venue, so is it the best use of fundraising dollars? Almost 50% of the people who attended didn t bid on anything. People think that their ticket is a donation and is money that can be used by CanDo, but it is not even covering the expenses. On 3/10 at 7pm, we ll be holding a community meeting over at the District boardroom to discuss this. Diner: Alissa Chacko Third trimester order forms just went out on Friday. Otherwise going well. Dixie Wear Maggie McPhail We need to open up our spring/summer buying session in the next week or so. Looking at adding baseball caps in grey, pink, and navy/gold. Also a tank top for girls. And maybe a t-shirt for 50th anniversary though may be too time-specific.
3 If there are any other suggestions, we are open to them. At all the Welcome Back events, we re going to have Dixie Wear tables to help promote sales. Green Team: Marnie Glickman for Heather Piper Marnie and Heather are working on some project ideas. They are going to do a waste assessment with Marin Sanitary at the beginning of March. Mr. Johnson: Flyer went out today for green Walk to School challenge which will begin on 3/16. Oliver Plunkett helping to coordinate that. Kids will get punch cards and givewaways from Safe Routes to School. Lunch Clubs: Maggie McPhail for Atashi Chakravarty Notes from Atashi: Day of Giving is 3/6. They could still use small donations. Lunch Clubs going well but need more volunteers. Community Heroes having a speaker series. Marin Humane Society coming 3/20. Will collect pet food in April. In the fall, thinking of starting a Tinkerers and Makers Program so looking for volunteers. Also launched Community Heroes at the after care. Began to clean and plant veggies in the planting beds. Will donate food. Yearbook: Andrew Pang Starting to put yearbook together. Brought in submissions for the cover art contest. All the art submitted will be used within the yearbook. Ordering can begin at the end of March. Denise is collecting the Now & Then photos for 5th Grade. Coordinating Council: Maggie McPhail and Alissa Chacko Didn t have a meeting this month. They are sponsoring a luncheon for book lovers on 4/28 from 11-2 at the Book Passage. Was one of the auction items at the CanDo auction. But there are still spots open. $50/ticket. Is luncheon and Book Passage staff will give thorough reviews of variety of books from adult fiction/nonfiction to children s.
