1 BEHIND The members and staff at SAPS Sandton are deeply distressed by the ferocious attack that took place at Engcobo Police Station on 21 February 2018 whereby five(5) police officers were killed. The station was robbed of firearms, cellular phones and a vehicle. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and their colleagues. It was a moving and emotional wreath-laying ceremony on Thursday, 01 February 2018 for the JMPD officers who died on the Monday evening. Some scattered pieces of the wreckage from the accident that claim the lives of Sophie Ngoasheng (35) and Winnie Mokgolo (45) were still on the ground on the side of Witkoppen Road in Paulshof, Sandton. It was very hard for the family members of the cops who, along with officers, were seen weeping uncontrollably. Ngoasheng and Mokgolo died when a drunk driver ploughed into them during a routine vehicle checking point in Paulshof. Other officers and motorists who had been pulled over also suffered injuries as the driver a Toyota Hilux bakkie crashed into them. MMC for Public Safety, Cllr Michael Sun and JMPD Chief David Tembe thanked SAPS and the CPF for their support and solidarity shown to JMPD. Brig Moodley laying a wreath Sandton station commander, Brig Moodley attended the ceremony on behalf of the Johannesburg North Cluster Commander.
