Offbeat holidays you can celebrate in Nov - Jan NOVEMBER 7TH: INTERNATIONAL TONGUE TWISTER DAY How much wood could a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Whether you re in unique New York or selling seashells by the seashore, show off your impressive command of diction today. Or if you re really in the mood for a challenge, try mastering a few tongue twisters not in your native tongue. NOVEMBER 15TH: CLEAN OUT YOUR REFRIGERATOR DAY or as we like to call it, Discover the science project you didn t know you had growing in your refrigerator Day. NOVEMBER 19TH: WORLD TOILET DAY A holiday devoted to the John, the Pot, the Latrine, and the Porcelain God? Sounds like the brainchild of a group of 5th graders. In fact, it s an international event dedicated to DE stigmatizing toilets and address the challenges of global sanitation. DECEMBER 12TH: FESTIVAL OF UNMENTIONABLE THOUGHTS We would love to tell you about the origin of this fest or how one goes about celebrating it, but, well, common decency prevents us. JANUARY 4TH: WORLD HYPNOTISM DAY According to the official website, World Hypnotism Day was created to educate the people of the world that hypnotism is more than just staring at a swinging gold watch whilst being told how sleepy you are getting. To further your learning, you can download audio clips from the site or search for events in your area. JANUARY 9TH: NATIONAL STATIC ELECTRICITY DAY Grab your balloons and sweaters! It s time to build up your static charge and conduct some electrons. This is the perfect holiday when the air is extra dry the optimal conditions for storing up those negative charges that shock you at the most unexpected times. JANUARY 10TH: PECULIAR PEOPLE DAY This holiday commemorates the unicorn in all of us. Although there is no official origin story, National theorizes PPD may have spun off from an obscure Christian denomination in England known as The Peculiar People. JANUARY 16TH: NATIONAL NOTHING DAY a non-holiday created in 1972 by journalist Harold Pullman Coffin, National Nothing Day requires you to not observe, celebrate, honour or commemorate anything, providing the perfect opportunity to at least do absolutely nothing. JANUARY 24TH: BEER CAN APPRECIATION DAY 77 years ago to the day, the first beer was sold in cans. Since then the beer can has become a barbecue staple, collector s item and a maligned receptacle for some beer snobs. Today, pause before chugging, shot gunning or crushing and take a moment to reflect on what your beer can means to you. 5

The new Can-Am Spyder 2014 RT Touring Model - Big Day Out With thanks to our local sponsor Western Motorcycles for the machine & thanks to 'Grumbles' Greg for organising the day. The warm & fine Sunday arrived for Spyder riders such as me to go on a test ride day out. BBQ breakfast was shouted by the Ray, the boss & his wonderful family workers at Westerns. The bacon & eggs were done by Darren and they beat my wife s home cooking and better than Maccas breaky any day was the general consensus. 18 riders on their Spyders turned up ready for a day s ride up to Tarana pub while taking turns test riding the new 2014 RT model... It has the in line engine, better suspension, better fuel economy & smoother gear changes with the semiautomatic gearbox. First stop at the Bilpin Tutti Fruitti for morning tea & first rider change. One of the guys on his own machine had ignition trouble so Spyder Care road service was called & sorted this one out. Eventually he was good to go whilst we continued onto the Causeway near Lithgow for a pit stop & next rider change, which was me. I was very grateful to test this top of the range machine after reading all about the improvements, and the features & benefits it has. I just had to find out if all the hype was all true, and I had to find what the heck all the buttons were for, like heated handgrips, hand brake, suspension adjustment & somewhere a start button was eventually found. Now ready to go, woops, another button to select first gear & now I am off. I had not even tried to find my favourite 70's music on the built in sound system. But I know it s there somewhere. Comfortable with a capital C, more so than my favourite lounge chair, a sit up style riding position with padding around rear end area for both rider & passenger support. Quiet & quick acceleration with just a hint of the auto gear change, softly glides over bumps so I rarely felt any, acceleration from any of the 5 gears (it has six) & great torque to boot. Woohoooo across the causeway we went, down Mt Vic to test the braking of course then along the highway to the Shell servo. Braking & handling down the Mt Vic bends was flawless & fast without any effort this three wheeled tourer just glides smoothly everywhere over any terrain. A short but sweet ride and unfortunately I had to hand it to the next 'test ride dummy' as we went on to Tarana for lunch through the sweeping hills out Oberon way. By Paul Cheetham (Crash Test Dummy) You start the game with a full pot of luck and an empty pot of experience... The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck 6

The curry joke THE INEXPERIENCED CURRY TASTER Notes from An Inexperienced Curry Taster Named FRANK, who was visiting Durban from the U.S. Recently I was honoured to be selected as a judge at a curry cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge s table asking directions to the beer wagon when the call came. I was assured by the other two judges (couple of local Indians) that the curry wouldn t be all that spicy, and besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted. Here are the scorecards from the event: Curry # 1: Manoj s Maniac Mobster Monster Curry JUDGE ONE: A little too heavy on tomato. Amusing kick. JUDGE TWO: Nice, smooth tomato flavour. Very mild. FRANK: Holy sh*t, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that s the worst one. Curry # 2: Applesamy s Afterburner Curry JUDGE ONE: Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight Jalapeno tang. JUDGE TWO: Exciting BBQ flavour, needs more peppers to be taken seriously. FRANK: Keep this out of reach of children! I m not sure what I m supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich manoeuvre. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face. Curry # 3: Farouk s Famous Burn down the Barn curry JUDGE ONE: Excellent firehouse curry! Great kick. Needs more beans. JUDGE TWO: A bean less curry, a bit salty, good use of red peppers. FRANK: Call Colesburg, I ve located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Draino. Everyone knows the routine by now, get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back; now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I m getting sh*t-faced from all the beer. Curry # 4: Barbu s Black Magic JUDGE ONE: Black bean curry with almost no spice. Disappointing. JUDGE TWO: Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a curry. FRANK: I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it, is it possible to burn-out taste buds? Savathree, the bar maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills; that 300 lb. bitch is starting to look HOT, just like this nuclear waste I m eating. Is curry an aphrodisiac? 8

Curry # 5: Laveshnee s Legal Lip Remover JUDGE ONE: Meaty, strong curry. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive. JUDGE TWO: Curry using shredded beef; could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement. FRANK: My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her curry had given me brain damage. Savathree saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from a pitcher. I wonder if I m burning my lips off? It really pisses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Curry # 6: Vera s Very Vegetarian Variety JUDGE ONE: Thin yet bold vegetarian variety curry. Good balance of spice and peppers. JUDGE TWO: The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb. FRANK: My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I shat myself when I farted and I m worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that slut Savathree, she must be kinkier than I thought. Can t feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my ass with a snow cone! Curry # 7: Sugash s Screaming Sensation Curry JUDGE ONE: A mediocre curry with too much reliance on canned peppers. JUDGE TWO: Ho Hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of curry peppers at the last moment. I should note that I am worried about Judge Number 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably. FRANK: You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn t feel damn thing. I ve lost the sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with curry which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava-like sh*t to match. At least during the autopsy they ll know what killed me. I ve decided to stop breathing, it s too painful. Screw it, I m not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I ll just suck it in through the 4 inch hole in my stomach. Curry # 8: Hansraj s Mount Saint Curry JUDGE ONE: A perfect ending, this is a nice blend curry, safe for all, not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence. JUDGE TWO: This final entry is a good, balanced curry, neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge Number 3 passed out, fell over and pulled the curry pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he s going to make it. Poor Yank, wonder how he d have reacted to a really hot curry? JUDGE THREE: No score noted... And speaking of world toilet day.. Talk about being at the right place! Have you ever noticed that a woman s, i ll be ready in five minutes and a man s, i ll be Home in five minutes are exactly the same? 9

Camberwarra Lookout Eight bikes left Maccas at the scheduled time and headed out through Mulgoa & Wallacia, turning onto Silverdale Rd. We made our through Silverdale, The Oaks, Thirlmere and Hilltop before joining the Hume Highway briefly before reaching Mittagong, our morning tea stop. After morning tea we continued down past Fitzroy Falls and descended into Kangaroo Valley where we regrouped. We made our way through the valley staring to climb up the ridge. At the top of the climb we turned left and made the ascent up to the lookout and lunch. It was a glorious day, sitting in the sun admiring the view across to Shoalhaven Heads and down to Jervis Bay. After a delicious lunch we mounted up and left heading towards Berry. We hadn t gone far when we encountered a few stopped cars. A large tree branch had fallen across the road and the drivers were busily moving it off the road. They waved us through which meant we had a car free ride down to Berry. Regrouping in Berry we headed for the coast and made a stop in Gerringong for fuel for the smaller tanked in the group. After fighting our way through traffic we turned onto the Princes Highway. We continued to the northern side of Kiama we turned off heading for Jamberoo. Some of the group decided to take the quick way home and stayed on the highway. We climbed up towards Robertson through some light rain. We made our way along the back roads to avoid Robertson and Mittagong and passed back through Hilltop to Thirlmere, where some of us stopped for a toilet stop and a chance to say our goodbyes before making our ways to Penrith and then home. A nice easy day with plenty of time to socialise and take in the scenery. Greg 11

Royal Hotel -Wyong 31 st August, 2014 Originally it was Trevor s ride but was unable to take it, so here I am. Clear skies and forecast of 23degrees I was a bit surprised that only six bikes turned up considering being the first dry Sunday for some time. After the usual pep talk, we travelled through Windsor, Pittown, Wisemans Ferry and stopping at Spencer for a long morning tea break. From Spencer we climbed up Mangrove Mountain through to Yarramalong and then to our destination, the Royal Hotel for a long Lunch break where the food and service was very impressive. With the weather still in great form, for the return trip we stayed on the Old Pacific H/way until Ourimbah where we joined the M1 for a short distance until the Gosford turn off. From there we re- joined the old H/Way through Mooney Mooney, Mt.White, Brooklyn and to Pie in the Sky for afternoon coffee break. From there we stayed on the old H/Way until Galston, travelling through Galston Gorge, Round Corner Dural, Oakhurst, Riverstone, Llandilo and home. Fantastic weather matched with a great bunch of riders to make the day very relaxing an enjoyable. Appx 290klms. Thanks again to everyone. Jim Linos A drunk walks out of a bar with a key in his hand and he is stumbling back and forth. A cop on the beat sees him and approaches, Can I help you Sir? Yessh! Ssssomebody ssstole my carrr, the man replies. About that time the cop looks down and sees the man s willy hanging out of his fly for all the world to see. He asks the man, Sir are you aware that you are exposing yourself? Momentarily confused, the drunk looks down at his crotch and without missing a beat blurts out. Bloody hell! My girlfriends gone, too!! 12

Rides and Social events from our President.. Memorial Ride 14th September 2014 we arrived at Panthers McDonalds at 9.30am. It was hard to tell how many bikes were mine, there was more than one club there waiting to go for a ride. When Leaving McDonalds there must have been 20 bikes behind me but I was not sure if they were with me or not. We went along Northern Road to Narellan McDonalds where we joined the other branches. At 10.30am we left for Cordeaux Dam. I don't think there were as many bikes this year. Arriving at Cordeaux Dam we had some lunch then we had a minutes silence for the men and women that had ridden on. After it was over we all went our separate ways. Jim took a few bikes down to the coast but we just went home and a few bikes followed me. Till next time Annual Picnic Nurragingy Reserve Doonside 21st September 2014 I am really happy with the response to the picnic and it can only get better every year. So let s get behind Nepean and support all our social events. Till next year, Trev and Shaz It was another great day, same place as last year. About 50 people turned up, even with some grandchildren running around. I want to give a big thankyou to our 2 great chefs who manned the BBQ's, Jim and PK. Dave for supplying the meat, Steve and Karen for bringing some salads and to Shaz for preparing some extra meals. Thanks to everyone who supported this great cause and purchased a wristband You can check out the website here: Young riders pick a destination and go... Old riders pick a direction and go. 13

NERRIGA Sunday 28 th September, 2014 With clear skies and forecast of mid 20 s, 9 bikes 4 with pillions showed up. along the Old Hume H/way to Berrima for our morning tea break. After the usual pep talk we travelled along some of our usual roads through Silverdale, Thirlmere, Colo Vale, and Mittagong and After the tea break we travelled along the Hume, veering off at Marulan for Bungonia. From there we enjoyed a great motorcycle stretch all the way o Nerriga. And the good news is, the 3 klms of dirt road is now down to 2 klms with the rest under construction including, a new bridge over the creek. The Nerriga Hotel did not let us down again with friendly staff and good food and service. For the return trip we stayed on the Nerriga road to Nowra (another motorcycle friendly rd) where we stopped for fuel and short break before heading for kangaroo Valley, and Bowral. At South Bowral, we turned right into Old South Rd staying to the end then turning right into the Old Hume Highway before joining Remembrance Drive Travelling through Bargo, Tahmoor, stopping at Picton for a short break where we also said our goodbyes as some people were taking their own route home. For the rest of us, we went over Razorback, Camden bypass with our final stop at Luddenham servo for ice cream. Thanks to all the riders and pillions for a very enjoyable day and thanks to the weather Gods for an awesome day. Total klms about 480 with most people home by about 4.30pm Thanks again Jim & Jenny Linos 14

5 th October Picton the long way Trevor It was a 9.30am start. Perfect day and by the time we left McDonalds I had 16 bikes. I went to Wallacia and on to Greendale Road all the way to Bringelly heading towards Camden Valley Road and on to Liverpool where we jumped on the freeway and got off at Heathcote Road. At the Princes Highway we turned right and on to the National Park. We came to a breathe test where the police man waved the cars through so he could pull us up, talk about picking on the bikes, that was a bit hot I reckon. There were cars and cops everywhere so it was speed limits only. At the end of the park we turned left and stopped at our favourite apple pie shop where the parking is really bad. When we finished Jim and Jenny and George headed for home, they had family stuff to do. We had to jump start my brothers bike again, having battery problems. It was a slow ride to Bulli Pass they need to ban cars on the weekends. I was worried that I would lose a few bikes and I did, but I didn't think Allen's Honda would die at the top of the pass. I did a regroup on Picton Road where I got a phone call from Allen telling me what had happened and to go on without him, he was calling the road service. Waiting on Picton Road, 2 bikes were missing, so we headed for Tahmoor Pub for lunch. But wait, Steve's bike had stopped and it was dead too. The day was getting worse and hotter. We decided to put him on the back of Aaron s bike and go and have some lunch. Halfway through lunch my 2 missing bikes turned up. They did not turn for Wollongong and ended up at Appin, finding their way back about half an hour behind us. Now how to get his bike home? Aaron offered to double Steve to my place, where we would get the car and trailer and do the salvage job. 2 and a half hours later we were back home. Just by chance, my battery fit his bike and he rode home with no more problems. Luck would have it, Shaz's granddaughter Kristy was in Nelsons Bay for the weekend and brought my battery back home for me. Lessons learnt from the weekend. Even Honda bikes do break down and if the bike doesn't start in the morning, leave it at home. Next time I will give better directions on the day. I'd like to thank Aaron for coming to the rescue and bringing Steve home. Till we meet again, Trev and Shaz 15

Ride Report - Patonga Beach 12 October The ride started at Panthers with a late start for those who needed a bit of a sleep in on Sunday. Nine bikes and one Can Am joined the ride, so I was under a bit of pressure as this was my first ride as ride leader. All was going well until the turnoff to Berowra Waters Ferry, where I missed the turn (spending too much time looking behind me and not in front!). The group's first stop was Pie in the Sky (a chance for Steve to have something to eat). Onto Patonga through the back streets of Umina (thanks to Steve's ever accurate and precise Tom Tom Navigator) (hey, I was taking a legitimate short cut to avoid the busy CBD of Umina). We all arrived safety at Patonga for fish and chips and some fresh salt air and sea breeze. Departed Patonga about 2pm for the return trip via Spencer and Wisemans Ferry with a bit of fun on the twisty bits. Cheers for now, Steve Murphy A guy is riding along a country lane, when a sparrow flies up in front of him. The biker can t do anything and hits the sparrow. As he looks in his rear view mirror, he sees the sparrow lying in the road. Being the kind of guy he is, he stops, picks up the sparrow and takes it home and puts it in a cage, still in a coma. When the sparrow wakes up the following morning, he looks through the bars of the cage and says, Shit, I must have killed the biker! 16

Dungog for Lunch A number of bikes were waiting at Maccas when I arrived. By the 8am departure time there were 12 bikes in line as we headed out the usual way to Richmond along Castlereagh Rd. We made our way up the Putty Rd past the Grey Gums cafe, where George left us. We continued on to the garage at Bulga for our morning tea stop. Ross and Kathy had turned off to Wollombi along the way as well. At Bulga we met up with Greg Anderson who d come over from Bonells Bay. We continued onto Singleton, East Gresford and onto Dungog for lunch. We had a long lunch with a chance to socialise and catch up with the latest news. After lunch we fuelled the bikes up and returned to the garage at Bulga where stopped for a cool drink before attacking the Putty again. We said our goodbyes to Greg and set off. We d been lucky all day with very few cars heading our way, so I was hoping there d be very little for us to deal with. We had a great ride to Colo Heights with only a couple of cars and a couple of sports bikes getting in the way. Nothing like a Goldwing keeping a sports bike honest for a short while for some fun. We had ice creams and cool drinks before saying our goodbyes and making our separate ways home. We covered 530km and enjoyed great weather and fairly empty roads, a great day made better by the company on the ride. Thank you for coming along. Greg Cracknell When I was ready to check out and pay for my groceries the cashier said, Strip down, facing me. Making a mental note so I could complain to my local MP about this security rubbish, I did just as she had instructed. After the shrieking and hysterical remarks finally subsided, I found out that she was referring to how I should position my credit card. Nonetheless, I ve been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instructions a little clearer for seniors, Man! I hate this getting older stuff! 17

26 th October Bundanoon 21 bikes departed panthers with excellent weather. It was a big day for the ride leader with so many bikes in attendance for his second ride. The Ride progressed well with only a few stragglers missing a turn or two. Great lunch in Bundanoon and a sedate ride back to Thirlmere for a well-deserved ice cream. Cheers, Steve Murphy 18

Cessnock RSL 2/11/2014 It was nice cool Sunday morning, the forecast was a cool morning with clear skies, the midday temperature to be in the mid to low 20 s. A day good for a ride. As it turn out the weather gurus did not lie. Four riders departed Panthers McDonalds at 8.00am heading towards Wisemans Ferry for a short river cruise. We disembarked the ferry without incident. And continued our journey along Wisemans ferry road, (which could do with some major road repairs.) Our first stop was Kulnura Service station very popular with bike rider and as it turn out with car clubs. We had arrive at 10.45am which meant we had about 30mins to relax and have some refreshments. After discussing the pros and cons about certain bikes which we had many to choose from and current affairs and what not, we left Kulnura refreshed and ready to attack the next stage of the journey via Wollombi. It was good clear run negotiating spare parts corner without incident (known as spare parts corner because of various travellers i.e. bike riders, leaving evidence of their passing through in the form bike parts). Wollombi a nice village frequented on the weekend by bike riders, car clubs, tourist and families outings well this weekend they were all there making the road through the village perilous with pedestrians and cars pulling out with indicating or even looking see if anyone was there. Anyway enough of bemoaning the injustice of it all, we made it through Wollombi with life and limb intact. Cessnock 30 kilometres down the road very scenic ride again the ride road could do with some work, I wonder where all our tax dollars go? Certainly not on road maintenance. After refuelling our bikes we headed for the RSL and an all you can lunch AHHHH sea food. WE spent about one and a half hours enjoying lunch and the club before we left for our next stop Grey Gums on the Putty road. The Putty road about 35 kilometre from Cessnock through the vineyards and Broke nice ride but the best was yet to come The Putty road Well it was like the bikes sensed what was coming, they took off like horses heading for water after tracking through the desert. I will say no more you should have been there. Grey Gums the end of the ride an oasis for thirsty and hungry riders and a much sort after spot at the end of long ride. The End, Ocker 19

About 5 Kms before Oberon we turned left for Edith then getting onto Shooters Hill Rd. At the end of Shooters Hill Rd we turned left into the Goulburn Oberon road following it to Taralga for our well-earned lunch break at the Taralga Pub. TARALGA Ride 9 th November, 2014 With clear skies and warm weather predicted, 13 bikes showed up for some serious riding. Taking the Bell s Line of Road and the causeway, our first stop for morning tea was at the lolly shop at the bottom of Mt. Victoria. From there we travelled along the Jenolan Caves Rd until Hampton where we turned right heading for Oberon. From Taralga we continued on to Goulburn, stopping briefly to refuel small tanks and then continued through South Goulburn, joining a nice piece of back road taking us to Bungonia and to the Marulan Service Centre for Fuel and cold drinks as the day started to really warm up. After a short break and only staying on the motorway for about 2 Kms, we took a detour via Bundanoon, Exeter, Fitzroy falls, East Bowral, around the back of Mittagong, Hill Top and to Thirlmere for our afternoon break and goodbyes. Perfect weather and company and a good constant pace through some fantastic roads made this an awesome day. Total distance for the day about 535klms with most people home before 5.30pm. Thanks to all riders and pillions Cheers Jim Linos The Zimbabwe Cricket Board just announced that they discovered Ebola in their cricket team, but this has not caused any concern since they also found Ebatsman and Efielda. 20
