! VSOC CENTRE 9 EAST MIDLANDS JULY 2011 OWNERS OF: VIRAGO, DRAG STAR, ROYAL STAR, VENTURE STAR, MIDNIGHT STAR, WARRIOR, RAIDER & STRATOLINER (OWNERS OF OTHER CUSTOM BIKES WELCOME AS ASSOCIATE MEMBERS) From the Editor Well here we are again with the rally season well on the way, with two of the four VSOC rallies this year come and gone already. The latest being the Fen Frolics with yet another good turnout. I understand there were 320 there in total, with 120 paying on the gate which looks like a lot of people are leaving it to the rally weekend to decide whether to attend or not. we had over a 100 pay on the gate at the Bomber Bash. The theme this time being the 50 s and rock & roll and judging by the number of people who got in on the action in all the gear, it was a popular theme. Next VSOC rally on the calendar is the Yorkies Troglodyte rally later this month, so if you haven t got your tickets yet, then do so quickly, as it will be another great rally. At the June centre meeting, the new Centre Rep was announced, or should I say Centre Team. Chris Bostock is taking the lead as Center Rep, with both Jim Salmon and Paul Caine as Deputy s. We wish them every success and I am sure the whole Centre 9 will give them all the support they need. Finally, a BIG thank you to both Terry & Trevor for all the effort they have put in as Center Rep and Deputy. I am sure they will always give any advice needed, just as Jim has done with me in taking over this position. Editors Tip of the Month When embarking on a journey using a Satellite Navigation System, it is wise to follow the instructions when prompted, as failure to do so will not only add unnecessary mileage, but also attract ridicule from your fellow colleagues. As experienced by Dumbo here - LOL Ride safe and remember: IT S THE SHINY SIDE UP Jim (Tandem) 1

Ride To The Wall - Launch Message - June 2011 Dear Subscriber Welcome the official launch of Ride To The Wall 2011 The event brings motorcyclists from near and far together to attend a memorial service at the National Memorial Arboretum on the first Saturday in October, in order to remember those who can no longer ride by our side. The date for this year is Saturday 1st of October 2011, there are now 100 days to go! We have a new website for 2011 with numerous new multimedia features including, web casts and blogs as well as links to Facebook and Twitter. The website also includes the history of Ride To The Wall, a gallery of images from previous years, full details of the start locations with maps, and links to the NMA but to name a few.» Please follow this link to view the website... Martin Dickinson Founder Caught on Camera They saw no evil, heard no evil or spoke no evil OR DID THEY? Captions to the Editor and best one will be published next month International Rally 2012 After an extremely successful Danish Rally where around 120 members of the VSOC attended, there seems to be an interest already in next years Swedish offering! To this end, I am sending out some info now, so members can consider the detail below. The Rally will be in a place called Oland, an island off the southern east coast. This will be a Thursday - day morning event. Dates 7-9th June Please Note: The Whitson Bank Holiday in 2012 is a week later and has "2 days off" due to the Queens Diamond Jubilee. Mon 4th & 5th June are B/Hols. This helps with taking time off work for this International event. There will be a reduced Rally price (yet to be decided), probably around 25 to cover venue, bands, etc, but you will need to purchase your own food/meals. There will be options to buy 2

different food on site, so this allows you to spend a little or a lot depending on your choice and budget. Also, if you decide to stay in a cabin, you will have the facility to cook your own food, should you wish to. The Rally ticket price includes camping, but if you would like to stay in a cabin/cottage, there are two options available, see url below. Prices are as follows: 440 Swedish Kroner (divided by 4 persons in a cabin) per night (around each per night) - 3 nights required (Thurs, Fri, Sat) - Non En Suite Option. Toilets/Showers in a communal block close by. 560 Swedish Kroner (divided by 4 persons in a cabin) (around each per night) En Suite version, shower/toilet within cabin. Both options have a kitchen/dining areas and sleep 4 persons. Further details confirmed and form some sort of plan:- Harwich - Esbjerg crossing arriving in Denmark around 1pm Danish time. Ride across to the Yamaha Custom Club NW of Copenhagen, and opt to erect your tent for either one or two nights prior to leaving for onward journey to rally site in Sweden. This is yet to be confirmed due to the ferry crossing date confirmation (not until Oct/Nov by DFDS). This ride will be just about 200 miles. The tent can stay erected at the Danish Clubhouse and all bedding kit etc not required at the Rally cabin, can be kept stored within the clubhouse should you wish to leave it, and have a cabin at the Rally instead of camping...result. Leaving around 10am for Sweden, we will ride around Copenhagen over the Oresund bridge, and meet the Swedes at the first services. They will lead/escort us from there to the Rally site. Mileage from the Danish Clubhouse to the Oland rally site miles. There will be a stopover at the Danish clubhouse on the return journey, but your tent will still be erected saving you extra hassle. There are 4 Tolls...Fyn - Sealand Return & Copenhagen - Malmo Oresund bridge (Total Cost:- 68 at today's exchange rates) All Cabins/Cottages WILL need to be booked via myself, and NOT with the Swedish club direct. What you should do...get 4 people to share a cabin, and of what type (Type A being the non ensuite option, B being the higher value option), send me an chairman@vsoc.ork.uk with names (all 4) please. I will open a "Swedish Rally" folder on my Laptop, until these cabins can be booked. I will request a certain amount, and at this point, expect to be able to secure them. Once into 2012, these may get fewer, and become harder to book, so consider an early booking via me. The Harwich-Esbjerg crossing prices will not be available until October (at the earliest), but going on this years crossing prices, a 4 berth cabin (one person plus one bike) was around 160 return. Mileage from Esbjerg to Danish Clubhouse to Oland Rally site and return is approximately 1000 including ride-out at Rally) so do the maths regarding fuel consumption and costs. Please send this information to your members... Regards Kevin Hoyte Chairman - Virago Star Owners Club Tel: Mob: kevin.hoyte@btinternet.com 3

Centre Reps Report The 3 Musketeers (wise monkeys?) By now you will probably be aware that Chris Bostock, Jim Salmon and Paul Caine have agreed to manage the Centre now that the Bomber has been Bashed (?) allowing Terry and Trevor to step down from their roles. Chris has agreed take the lead as Centre Rep and Jim and Paul are jointly supporting him as Deputy Reps. Jim will also take the position of Notts Rep. We are going to do our very best to continue to take Centre 9 forward and follow the standard which has been set by Terry and Trev who certainly went out on a high and have set the standard for the remaining VSOC rallies of I know that we are all sorry to see them decide to take the well deserved rest having made their mark on the Centre during their time in office. Luckily they will still be around to give us support. Around 120 members attended the VSOC International in Denmark 10-12th June. Centre 9 was represented by Mike & Leslie Godwin and John & Jayne Bell. Kevin Hoyte is already making information available about the 2012 International which will be 10-12th June in Denmark on the island of Oland and the cost is estimated to be at the bargain price of around 25!!. Camping is included but for an extra cost some cabins will be available. No doubt more details will be published in a future Clatter. The annual Farmyard Rally took place on the weekend of 17-19th June with the usual good turn out from our Centre. Eleven of us made the trip on what was forecast to be a rather mixed weather weekend; to our pleasant surprise the weather was quite good. We managed to have our own little encampment within the thousands and thousands of other bikers who went. A couple of Yorkies managed to find and join us; several others from that part of the country were seen scattered around the site. If you haven t been you should give it a try before you re too old! Always a superb weekend no matter what the weather with many enclosed events taking place and the beautiful village of Helmsley only a short walk away. All made even better when you are with a great group of friends.. By the time this Newsletter is published the Uttoxeter Classic Bike Show will have taken place 2-3rd July. It s hard to believe that the Virago was launched in 1981, 30 years ago! We always knew that it would be a classic but it seems to have come around very quickly. Don t forget to get tickets for the Yorkies Trogledyte Rally which is at a new location and takes place on 22-24th July. Some of us have already sent off for tickets for the Scrumpies Summer Party at the end of August. I know it s early but always good to get the tickets so the organizers can get an idea of the minimum numbers. Quite a few of us usually attend and I know that a number of us are going down for this annual event. It takes place in a large barn on a small farm which is open to the public. Great atmosphere and very laid back. The VSOC Committee have decided that Parties will not be publicized via Clatter or the National website so you will need to keep an eye on local Centre websites if you wish to party with another Centre. The Royal Star is 15 this year and to celebrate, there is to be a special section roped off at Fen Frolics 3 so if you have one, and in particular a 1996 model or a US variant, make sure it s in the pen. Writing this we ve just come back from a great weekend at the Fen Frolics not a bad turnout from the Lost Riders but it would be good to see a few more of us attending when possible. Weather 4

was actually quite good, being very hot on the day. Congratulations to the Warriors for all their efforts in making it a good weekend. Notts Centre Reps THE DERBYSHIRE DESPATCH Hello Well since the last meeting its been fairly quiet but we did have a couple of new faces Tim and his son Anthony at our last meeting, Tim was waiting to pick up a Royal Star so hopefully we ll be seeing some more of them out and about. Paul and myself were at the breakfast meet at CMC on the 19th where we met up with Rick, Ken and Richie but we just had a chat and a drink and then we all went our different ways. On the subject of breakfast meets I would just like to point out that they are purely social occasions nothing is planned its just a meet-up and if there are some that want to go for a ride then they are welcome to, it also means that I may not always be there as these meets were set-up by a previous rep and I cannot commit to being there everytime due to other commitments.some of you may have been to the Fens Frolic rally at the end of last month so I hope you all had a good time, I couldn t make that one but I will be at the Party on the Poop deck in Devon so roll on August!!!! That s all from Derbyshire this month and hopefully we ll see you soon Shelagh xx 5

NOTTS NATTERING S Well, it s now official - I am now the area rep. Chris now being the Centre rep. Nothing will change, unless you want it to. I d like to thank the previous incumbent for their outstanding and unprecedented work in looking aler the NoMs area oops just realised that was me! June has been quite a month with a lot going on, not least the change of management for our region, a lot of new people in posisons I m not going to list them all but check out the CommiMee Page to see them. I had a ride up to the Derby breakfast meet, just to show we are all one big happy group and should support each other when possible, unfortunately I couldn t make their monthly meet but I was told it was an excellent and superb unforgemable evening (at least that s what Shelagh said). Our own meet at Rolls Royce was well amended and enjoyed by all. The people make it a good evening, so if you ve yet to get there come along, it s well worth it. We (Moira and I that s posh) had a good ride down to the Saxon Warriors do and an even bemer ride back the weather was great, very hot. The first thing we did when on arriving home was have a shower, it has been quite a while since we had a ride in such good weather; let s hope it s not the last. I m not going to complain bemer too hot than too cold or wet! The Saxon Warriors theme was the 50 s Rock n Roll, an excellent theme. The costumes were great with many taking great effort and I think I saw some original ou`its there. Watching some of the more experienced dancers you could see that you certainly had to be fit to dance the night away. I was Sred just watching! WriSng this I m thinking of the UMoxeter event, with our club having a major stand within the show. I had originally hoped that I could go for the weekend but that is not to b e. There is a reasonable chance that I might get down for one day, so for those unable to go I ll let you know what it was like in the next issue. The next event following UMoxeter is the Yorkies Rally. We ve booked our Sckets now so rain or shine we ll be there. There is always one thing you can guarantee about the Yorkies, no, not they they are Sght *@@)**^s or that they eat their whippets on toast with mustard but that they always put on a good party! Make every effort to go and join the rest of us for what I m sure will be a great weekend. Look out for the pictures in the next issue. On a final note, it s Sme to renew for the text messaging service, if you haven t already done so get in touch with me, Paul or Chris and for a 1 we ll ensure you are kept informed all events Be careful out there Jim 6
