C There are nearly 150 thousand US inhabitants who were born in Ireland, and there are more than 34 million with Irish family roots. D E F No. It has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing and special food. He was born in Roman Britain in about 385. When he was young, some men sold him to Ireland as a slave. After some years, he returned to his family. Then he went back to Ireland for missionary work. After his death, he became the patron saint of Ireland. Lots of different kinds of dishes are popular such as Irish potato soup, Irish stew, Irish cream chocolate mousse cake with Irish coffee and many more. G The earliest celebration of Saint Patrick s Day took place not in Ireland but in Boston (USA) in 1737 when people of Irish origin celebrated their own culture. Write your answers in the boxes below. There is an example (0) at the beginning. The Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament in London is usually called Big Ben by locals and tourists. Since 2012, it has had a new name the Elizabeth Tower, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth s Diamond Jubilee. Big Ben is really the name of the largest of the five bells inside the tower. The Elizabeth Tower is 96 metres high and has 11 floors. The Veszprém Fire Tower stands at the foot of Castle Hill. It is one of the symbols of the Hungarian city. It is 48 metres high. Originally it was a watchtower, as it was suitable for observing the town for signs of fire. The tower was rebuilt after the earthquake in The clock of the tower plays music every hour and also strikes quarter-hourly. The world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa has a long history it took two centuries to build it. It is the bell tower of the Cathedral of Pisa. Unfortunately, the tower began to lean due to the soft sandy ground. The tower is currently stable. In 2008, engineers found that it is no longer moving. It is the symbol of the city. The Eiffel Tower is a symbol of Paris and one of the best-known buildings in the world. Alexandre Gustave Eiffel built it as the entrance for the International Exhibition of Paris in At a height of 324 metres, it was the tallest tower in the world until From its observation decks you can enjoy beautiful views of the French capital city. 0 Local people call the Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament A Jubilee Tower to celebrate Queen Elizabeth.
