2 Highlights from our October meeting. Attendees: 19 Meeting was called to order by President Baron KI7FDU There was a quorum of Officers present. Minutes of the September meeting were read and accepted. Treasurer's Report Randy N7CKJ $ ARES Report Michael KF7SYS - The Sunday evening ARES training Net has been averaging between 8 & 12 check-ins each Sunday. As many of you know the Net is now considered a training Net due to the fact that after the normal check-in process there is usually a training portion included. We need more Net Control Operators, currently running with three. Our monthly meeting at the ambulance shack continues to demonstrate the need for training. Dave WD7K and I have been meeting and working with Jim Caruso (Director of Emergency Management) discussing the ins and outs regarding the best methods to apply during various types of events. PARC Net George W7WBN Still need more net control operators, Thank you to Jim W7JWT & Baron KI7FDU for volunteering. We still need someone to take my place, as I m moving out of the area. Main duties would be organizing the Net schedule each month, you would not have to be a Net Controller but it would be nice. Board Report: Bruce KC7H Nothing new to report, Bruce s seat is up for re-election this year. Announcements: Old Business: Club Patches and HRO raffle tickets from Randy N7CKJ Picnic in September was mentioned. Anyone do the Salmon Run? Club needs to look for a new meeting place, Jim WW7DD s health may keep him from attending meetings in the future. Just George W7WBN at Congratulations George W7WBN For Winning the HRO Raffle Presented to George by Randy N7CKJ The PARC Sunday Night Net continues to be a mainstay of the organization. Changes are coming to the PARC Sunday Night Net. Some Net Control Operators are leaving and some new Operators are coming on. After many years of faithful service Jim WW7DD has dropped out of the rotation. The club thanks Jim for his dedication. Baron KI7FDU and Jim W7JWT will be coming on in November. And, as many of you know, I am preparing to move to Sandpoint Idaho to be near family. The life-blood of the HAM Radio Community is volunteers. Without them we tend to lose continuity and direction. The never-ending quest for Net Control Operators is still in progress. If you want to try your hand in operating the Net, or if you are a recent HAM looking for on-air experience, this is a great way to get it! 4 FROM THE PRESIDENT Let s Talk About Our Future as a Club Hello Everyone: Here we are again heading into Ham Radio weather (winter that is). I hope you all had a chance to check your antennas and feed lines and are ready to enjoy our hobby and passion for the indoor months. With that said, if you enjoy Ham Radio like I do and want to see it grow and remain interesting then we need to talk. I m sure that everybody has noticed that the club needs new members and that the club hasn t been as active as it should be in recruiting them. The future depends on new Hams joining and participating in club events. I know there are an endless number of reasons why people get into amateur radio and I think that we need to GET THE WORD OUT about all the different things that it offers. As a club we need to shake off the old image of Ham Radio that many people have and show them that there is more to it than they may know. Ham Radio has something to appeal to just about anyone, and our mission is to show potential members what they could be discovering in Ham Radio and in our local club. The reason a club exists is to create a place for people who share a common interest, to meet, learn about and enjoy that common interest together. The way I see it, the more members we have, the more we learn and the more we will enjoy this great hobby. If you are the only member in the club who does CW, then who do you talk to about code? If you are the only builder of equipment, who do you talk to? That s my point in a nutshell. We need to grow! The job of a club recruiter is your job! If you are proud of your hobby and your club, then recruit, recruit, recruit. Everywhere you go be the best recruiter you can be. Keep club contact information handy and have a membership application ready to go. Every one of us must be able to explain the various things Ham Radio offers and what our club offers also. We need to appeal to the next generation of Hams. Younger potential members might be interested in things like digital modes or in contesting, but whatever it is we need to welcome them in.
