Set back from the road, this long zigzagging string of stone-faced, flat-roofed garage and storage units appears to have been constructed in the 1930s. These interesting buildings are in fair condition and are slated to be demolished and replaced with town houses. They are contributing resources in the District. 146
2 600 Preston Place STREET 600 Preston Place MAP & PARCEL: Private Dwelling Fraternity House PRESENT OWNER: IX Chapter of Theta Chi Alumni Corp Ken Harris 800 West Tharpe Street Tallahassee, FL DATE/ PERIOD: 1925 Georgian Revival HEIGHT IN STORIES: 2.5 stories 3,400 sq ft/0.358 acres This 2 ½-story, Georgian Revival-style, hip-roofed, brick (5-course American bond with Flemish variant) dwelling was constructed in the mid-1920s and is used as a fraternity. Details include: a large pediment front dormer; a modillion and denticulated wood cornice; 12/12-sash widows; louvered shutters; side porch with Tuscan columns; and 1- bay pediment portico with paired Tuscan columns and a Roman Doric frieze. This handsome Georgian Revival-style house is a contributing resource in the District and exhibits fine detailing and an unusual front entry porch. 147

It is clad in weatherboard and has a symmetrical 3-bay front, two interior brick chimneys, 6/6 and 6/9 windows, a raised brick basement, a 148
4 tetrasyle1-story front porch, and later additions at rear and east side. Built as the main dwelling on a large farm that once encompassed a large part of this District, this doublepile, central-passage-plan house is one of the two earliest buildings in the District. It served as a student boarding house between ca and 1970 and is a contributing resource in the District. City Council previously designated this property as an Individually Protected Property. This means that at the time of that designation it was located outside the existing local historic districts in the city but was deemed by City Council to be of special historic, cultural, or architectural value. 149

The original 2-story frame wing on south end consists of a sunroom above a loggia. Built as a fraternity house, this fine, Georgian Revival-style dwelling is a contributing resource in the District. 150

DATE/ PERIOD: Ca Vernacular HEIGHT IN STORIES: 1.5 stories 1,824 sq ft/0.166 acres This 1 ½-story, vernacular, frame building is believed to have been constructed as servants quarters and or detached kitchen for Wyndhurst (605 Preston Place) and is now a private dwelling. Details include: board-and-batten siding; gable roof; 2 (added) front dormers; 3-bay main front (originally 2-bays); full-length shed-roofed front porch; and original central brick chimney. Although this building has been heavily altered, it is a contributing resource in the District. City Council previously designated this property as an Individually Protected Property.
