Aconi - Sydney Mines - North Sydney Nothing says Christmas like the Christmas Daddies Show that has raised $27 million dollars for the families in the Maritimes since Hundreds of volunteers air and produce the shows in three provinces and many clubs, organizatons and individuals proudly support Christmas Daddies each year. At the core are the entertainers who give so freely of their talent to help others. This is a typical Maritime trait and the entertainers perform each year so that others may enjoy a happy Christmas. The show raised $185,000 last year in Cape Breton and expect to top that with this year s production. Tune in to see some great local musical talent. HIS WEEK The Sydney Mines Community Santa Claus Parade Committee would like to thank all of those who participated in this year parade. The entries were wonderful and the day would not have been the same without you. We would also like to thank all of those who donated their time, resources and made donations to help make the event possible. We could not do it without you and we look forward to working with you once again. This year s parade was the first of the season and it was wonderful to see so many people come out to watch this event. It certainly kicked the holiday season off with a bang. Thanks are also extended to our judges for an amazing job as well as to our Grand Marshall and dignitaries who assisted in the award presentation. We would be remiss if we did not send out a special Thank You to Santa himself for taking time from his busy schedule to join us. The following entries were the winners of the awards. OFF Book Online: myonlineappointment.com/doggiedos OR CALL AROUND THE TOWN I read some interesting comments about the snow clearing after the first storm of the year last week. I m sure things could have been more efficient but I think that the job the operators did, considering the huge amount of snow that fell, was commendable... One thing I d like to pass along to merchants and businesses in North Sydney, Sydney Mines and Sydney, please provide a walkway to your business through the snowbanks. SEAVIEW SEAVIEW I had to enter MOTORS several MOTORS businesses MOTORS after our first Winter blast and in many occasions I had to walk to the end of the intersection to get past the snowbanks. This is not only inconvenient but a safety issue as well as you have to walk with traffic coming behind you. Do not give your potental customers another reason to shop at the mall with huge parking available and no snowbanks to climb over... I spent an enjoyable Saturday morning with my grandaughter watching the Sydney Santa Claus Parade and I was impressed. I d like to single out the Sheldon Nathanson entry which had dozens of costumed characters that interacted with the kids during the parade, very professional, a very nice community minded gesture meant for the children, congratulations...take a look at the story about Home For Christmas on page 6 and see how you can send your own Christmas Greetings to family and friends living away from home during this upcoming Christmas Season, it s really easy and it would (CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE) TERRY MacCORMICK S SEAVIEW MOTORS Salt On The Road Means Rust On Your Car - Protect It NowWith RUST PROOFING 126 Seaview Drive NORTH SYDNEY Holiday Feast $ Two 12 - Topping Pizzas, 12 Garlic Cheese Fingers and a McCain Delite Chocolate Cake DINE-IN, TAKE-OUT & DELIVERY Free Pizza $ 30 Buy $30 worth of Gift Cards at your local Pizza Delight and receive a Certificate for a FREE 12-3 Topping Pizza KING STREET NORTH SYDNEY

PHONE (902) CUFF THE DUKE Morning Comes (Paper Bag Records) Let me start off by saying thisif you re a Blue Rodeo fan you ll like this CD; more on why later. Cuff the Duke (Wayne Petti, Dale Murray, Paul Lowman and Corey Wood) are an Ontario band that have been together for about 10 years, with a few minor changes in the line up over that period. It s sometimes hard to be exact when describing a band s music, in Cuff the Duke s case terms such as indie rock, folk and traditional country have been used, but the best description comes to mind from just listening to the music. This is the band s fifth fulllength album and they were featured on a CBC Radio 2 special in April of this year as they performed with Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), who also produced this album. The first single released was Count on Me and as you hear the song you can easily imagine Jim or even Greg Keelor doing this song, but Cuff the Duke still manage to keep their original stamp on the number. You can also check out the video for the Mike s Place - RESTAURANT & LOUNGE Come Dance The Night Away Saturday, Dec. 3 - Live Music SUNDAY Ian & The Boys - Kitchen Open Come Join The Fun! Every Friday Night OPEN MIKE with DJ DUKE 1 PITT STREET - SYDNEY MINES Check New Kitchen Hours PAGE 5 song on YouTube, it s great. Whether intentional or accidental, Jim s influence is even more evident on Standing on the Edge and You Don t Know What it s Like. Both songs are moderately up-tempo and very enjoyable. Looking at a few more tracks, Time is Right is a fun, rousing sing-along number; So Many Times Before is delicate and almost fragile and Brightest Part of the Sun is haunting and slightly sorrowful. Bound to Your Own Vices may clock in at 8 minutes in duration but time flies by as the song elicits a foot-stomping response, with a number of tempo changes, starting off as a folk song and then turning into a Neil Younglike rocker. To me this is the best song on the disc. The CD closes off with Letting Go ; this one definitely sounds like a Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song. It s retro folk and very cool. This album is the first in a two-part collection, and lead singer Wayne Petti said that these albums deal with losing someone, and the changes that result. He also said that this album reflects the low point and the next album will reflect the high point. If the so-called low point sounds this good, the high point will be even more amazing.

This non-profit organization has been opened on the Northside for over 10 years and during that time has been a vital service to the area. As a non-profit organization Harvest House relies on fundraisers and donations from the public as they are self sufficient. Recently volunteers from the organization held a fundraiser which also served as an educational awareness program. This event brought to light the issue of homelessness and poverty in our own local area. These volunteers lived out of a cardboard box for 54 hours at the Mayflower Mall in Sydney with donations being accepted. They raised a total of $ which was divided between their facility and the one located in Glace Bay. Funds will assist with the cost of heating in both locations. Recently the organization has also placed a flyer in the Cape Breton Post requesting assistance with the cost of their Christmas Dinner which will be held on December 25 th at 4 PM at Harvest House. They expect to serve at least 40 people during this holiday season. Harvest House operates Monday through Friday from 9 AM 2:30 PM and individuals may call for further information. A telephone number is provided for after house emergencies after this time. Each day, Monday through Friday lunch is served and individuals are welcome daily to drop in for a warm drink of coffee and a chat. Future plans include the hope of being able to provide shelter for up to tell males in the future. Along with monetary donations the organization also accepts donations such as food, clothing, household items, etc. They are also always looking for volunteers so if you have time to give or like to cook please contact them, they would love to hear from you. As a thank you to the community Harvest House will be providing free hot chocolate to all children during the Parade of Lights in North Sydney on Saturday, December 3 rd beginning at 6 PM. A sincere thank you to those at Harvest House for all of your hard work and dedication.!!
