6 My choice Programs Study Abroad The Study Abroad program is a high school experience providing opportunities to pursue personal, cultural and academic goals. Students integrate into the school community to improve their English proficiency and learn about Australian culture, before returning home to continue their studies. Other programs offered by EQI for long-term study periods High School Preparation Education Queensland International s High School Preparation (HSP) program is an intensive English language program that prepares students for mainstream high school studies. Students develop the English proficiency, academic language and study skills required for subjects such as mathematics, science, technology, studies of society and environment, and literature. The HSP program features: 10-week modules maximum of 18 students per class 25 hours of instruction per week school integration qualified English teachers. Program length: Age range: Visa requirements: Program entry: * Depending on student s English level weeks* years Student visa Students may enrol at the beginning of any school term Graduate The Graduate program is designed for students seeking to graduate high school in Queensland and qualify for tertiary study in Australia or abroad. Students can choose from over 60 schools throughout Queensland. Each school provides the highest standard of teaching and care, and also offers specialised courses in sports, arts and languages. Students who successfully complete Years 11 and 12 will receive the internationally recognised Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Program length: Minimum 1.5 years to 2 years Age range: years School level: Years 8 12 Visa requirements: Student visa Program entry: Years 8 11 Primary EQI has several schools that offer programs for primary school students. All international students receive support from dedicated teachers as they participate in regular classroom activities. All students receive additional English support throughout their course of study. Requirements: Students must live with a parent or blood relative for the duration of the enrolment Program length: Minimum 6 months to 4 years Age range: 6 12 years School level: Years 1 7 Visa requirements: Student visa Program entry: Years 1 7 International Baccalaureate The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program is a world recognised curriculum available in selected Queensland schools.* On successful completion of Years 11 and 12, students are awarded the QCE in addition to an IB Diploma. Students wishing to enrol in the IB program should have achieved high academic results in a range of subjects prior to entry. 7 My experience Homestay Student support Queensland Government schools understand the needs of international students and have a special support team at each school; International Student Coordinator: provides academic and pastoral guidance to international students Homestay Coordinator: organises placement and ensures students have an enjoyable homestay experience Guidance Officer: provides specialist counselling and advice on academic pathways, career options and personal wellbeing. 24 hour care All international students have 24-hour emergency assistance and multilingual support available. Close to nature Homestay A highlight of Queensland Government school programs is the excellent homestay available to students 14 years and over.* Your family away from home Homestay provides students with a caring and safe family environment in which to live while they study. Living with an Australian family enables students to fully engage in school and family life, and to quickly improve their English skills. All families have been carefully selected by the schools and assessed before being certified with a governmentauthorised permit (Blue Card) to host international students. Homestay includes: 3 meals per day, 7 days per week student s own bedroom with study facilities assistance to find transport to and from school. Students can choose from a wide range of universities, private colleges and vocational training institutions (TAFE), where most students receive their first choice of tertiary study. Student experience I successfully applied for The University of Melbourne upon my graduation from EQI with the help from my course and career advisor in school. Because of the excellent program run by EQI, I found that I was able to pass through the transition phase from high school to university faster than other students my age. EQI s program prepared me well for life outside of high school in terms of both knowledge and cultural experience. 16 My choice Central Coast... world-class research facilities About the Central Coast The Central Coast, also known as Capricorn Coast, offers international students a diverse range of unique natural environments in which to study. Encompassing the Queensland coast from Townsville to Gladstone, the Central Coast has extensive educational opportunities for international students. International students can choose to study in Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and Gladstone. Places of interest Central Coast Townsville Townsville s many attractions include the world s largest living coral reef aquarium, a wildlife sanctuary, beaches, museums, theatres, galleries and restaurants. Townsville boasts excellent world class research and education facilities, with a heavy focus on international education. Mackay Mackay is on the doorstep of the famous Whitsunday Islands tourist region and Airlie Beach. It is close to the Great Barrier Reef, rainforests, sandy beaches and nearby mountains, providing access to a diverse range of outdoor activities. Mackay is located in a rich agricultural region which produces more than a third of Australia s cane sugar. Rockhampton and Yeppoon Rockhampton is often referred to as the town where the outback meets the reef, and offers a beautiful contrast of rural and coastal landscapes.
