He was chairman of the London Power Company (LPC), and the Charing Cross, West End and City Electrical Supply Company. Fladgate recognised the benefits of a combined electrical supply that provided electricity for industry, tram ways and lighting a scheme that had already been successfully put in place in Manchester, by Leonard Fladgate. Fladgate worked tirelessly to bring London out of its dark period by working to remove prohibitions on association and co-operation between London companies. Fladgate looked to Parliament to rectify the situation, and in the 1925 London Electricity Acts I & II, he was rewarded. Thus the nine existing London companies were combined to form the London Power Company. Local opposition arose when plans for the Battersea Power Station were released. Fladgate dealt well with the uproar caused by bringing such a huge industrial building into the centre of London by highlighting the obvious economic advantages to having electricity generated right where it was needed rather than bringing it down from up river. The next objections raised were fears of the effect of chimney gases produced when the Station was in operation. Fladgate always asserted that the company would not hesitate in providing every possible precaution. The commissioning of the Government Chemist to monitor all of the Company s attempts to reduce emissions, through a process called washing, further satisfied the public. Although a form of reprieve, criticisms continued throughout the early 1930 s. Fladgate continued unfazed on his mission, his efforts recognised as he was knighted for services to London in When Fladgate died on 12th July 1937, the board celebrated his 45 years of tireless service towards the improvement of the Electricity Supply Industry in London. Fladgate had a kind and charming personality which endeared him both to his colleagues at his law firm and at the LPC.
