Hamilton City Council Transport Strategy
Where Does Access Hamilton Fit?
Strategic Vision Deliver an affordable, integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable transport system. Support economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being Manage incremental change in transport and land use systems by applying a hierarchy of interventions Position infrastructure and land development to meet the city s long term needs.
Strategic Approach Hamilton has been implementing best practice in integrated transport planning since 1996: Hamilton Integrated Transport Strategy (1996) Hamilton Alternatives to Roading Study (2004) Access Hamilton (2005) Access Hamilton 2010 is a review of the existing strategic direction taking into account national, regional and local changes since 2005 and looks ahead to Access Hamilton will only be fully delivered by working in partnership with key stakeholders such as New Zealand Transport Agency, Environment Waikato, iwi, neighbouring District Councils, city centre businesses and so on.
Access Hamilton - Overview Parking Management Transport Safety Travel Demand Management Active Travel Activity Management Passenger Transport Network Strategy Vision Strategic focus to 2040 Alignment with other city strategies Sets out themes and shared outcomes Collaborative approach Integrated Transport Plan Considers demands to 2040 with a 10 year focus Co-ordination Prioritisation of packages Implementation Seven Action Plans Consider specific modes Short term delivery focus Assess issues and needs Identify activities Include targets
