4 Our Strategy in Latin America To raise the profile of Australia in Latin America as a quality international education and training provider through the Future Unlimited brand, and by promoting key aspects of our education system, our leading areas of study and research, our world-class student support services, and the advantages of Australia as a destination and/or partner country. To position Latin America in Australia as a growth and emerging market for international education, including as a diversification market, and as an attractive partner for joint programs, collaborative research and transnational education. 7 Our Strategy in Latin America To identify cross-industry and transnational education opportunities by working with the broader Austrade network and gathering superior market intelligence. To ensure Austrade is regarded as a key ally by Australian and local stakeholders (including internal stakeholders), by providing outstanding service and supporting strategic and sustainable engagement between Australia and Latin America

7 Workforce Development and the Peruvian Mining Sector Downing Teal Study 2011, projected demand for mining professionals in the following 10 years Peru: 90,200 Austrade report 2013 In 2012, Peruvian mining sector directly employed 200,000 mining professionals Next 2 years, Peruvian mining sector will demand 40,000 professionals For every engineer, 4 mid-level technicians and 10 operators will be required 13 What are some of the mining skills gaps in Peru? Intermediate level English Soft skills such as leadership, team work and communication Work health and safety Environmental awareness and management including water management Community engagement/community relations

8 What are some of the challenges that Peru is facing? 600 mining engineers graduate each year but only 50 find a job immediately. The remainder need further training before they are employable. Why? Quality of programs, out-dated curriculum Graduate profile does not match industry requirements 15 What are the opportunities for Australian education and training providers? Curriculum development new programs, updating existing programs Joint programs Teacher training Transnational education Online delivery Tailor-made programs Development of a global mining workforce
