Spanning a taping schedule of 4 shows in 1972, the concerts blew the socks off the Texas crowds in attendance, featuring songs from the Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street and Let it Bleed albums. It s a definite blast from the past to see a 29 year old Mick Jagger prancing around the stage like an arrogant peacock (his trademark style, of course) with band mates Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor (who had replaced Brian Jones in 1969) and additional back up by Nicky Hopkins (piano) Jim Price (horns) and Bobby Keys (sax). As mentioned above, the reputation this original film (now a DVD) has is well earned. The live versions of Brown Sugar, Tumbling Dice, Jumping Jack Flash, Midnight Rambler, Dead Flowers, Street Fighting Man and Bitch all prove why The Rolling Stones were/and are still considered the greatest rock & roll band on the planet. There s also a killer performance of You Can t Always Get What You Want captured here. The DVD contains 15 songs in the main concert and there are some great bonus features as well; 3 extra songs from a rehearsal, with Tumbling Dice being the icing on the cake, and the band s Bluesberry Jam reminds us all just how much blues music influenced the band s sound. Mick s harmonica playing on Midnight Rambler bears this out as well-he s really good at it. There are also 2 interviews with Mick-one from 1972 and one done in 2010, in which of course he obviously looks older, but pretty much the same. Now as to how Keith Richards looks-that s another matter!
