17 China Outbound Market Overview Actual 2015 China has now become one of the biggest outbound market in the world with more than 120 million border-crossing in 2015 (that is 4 million growth vs 2014 or 3.44% growth). On the contrary, Hong Kong suffered the most mainly due to protests against mainland shoppers, dropped from #1 position in 2014 to # 4 in France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany positioned amongst the top 10 (1.7 times growth over 2014). Germany, in particular, became more popular owing to the simplified visa application procedure. France, Italy and Switzerland remained on the list owing to the romantic culture and art. On an average, Mainland Chinese travel aboard 3 times a year. Average expenditure on each outbound trip was USD 3,560 + per person 18
