2 Melbourne is the capital and most popular city in the state of Victoria. With a population of 4,246,345 it is the second biggest city after Sydney, in Australia. The city is pretty diverse and multicultural. The cultural diversity is reflected in the city's restaurants serving various international cuisines. Melbourne has a moderate oceanic climate and is well known for its changeable weather conditions. Melbournians even say that you can have all four seasons in Melbourne on one single day! That s what I experienced there as well. Melbourne is notable as the host city for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games and the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The city is home to three major annual international sporting events: the Australian Open, the Melbourne Cup and the Australian Grand Prix. Melbourne was ranked as the world's most liveable city in ratings published by the Economist Group's Intelligence Unit in August 2011 and again in New temporary home Located in North Coburg 2

7 is the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and a major provider of specialist statewide services to the people of Victoria..is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education..services are provided from the following 3 campuses: The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital & Sandringham Hospital. 7

8 I have been working at the Alfred during my placement. The Alfred was founded in 1871, it is the oldest Melbourne hospital that is operating on its original site. It was built in honour of His Royal Highness, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, who survived an assassination attempt in 1868 while visiting Australia. The people of Melbourne were so thankful for the safety of the Prince that they established a fund to build a hospital in his name. The Alfred is a major tertiary referral teaching hospital. It has a major role in the provision of specialist tertiary and quaternary services on a statewide and national basis. 10 Tasks and responsibilities during my placement at the Alfred I was part of the Performance Review and Development project team, which means that I spent most of my time with... organising pilot group meetings developing templates for different roles and divisions by communicating with our pilot groups developing a presentation for pilot group meetings to sell the project and outline the process developing a short time solution to new starters who don t have already arranged IT access in time when they start instead of LMS Nursing Education online training creating a list outlining the risks and issues of the project tracking feedback from different pilot groups setting up the online system with sections and templates, new roles and users Beside the project work I tried my best to support the Recruitment team with their daily work. Alfred Health has a strong commitment to research and undergraduate and postgraduate training for medical, nursing, allied health and other support staff through its major partnerships with Monash and LaTrobe Universities. Alfred Health is one of the four founding partners of the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP), established in 2002 on The Alfred campus. AMREP is one of Australia's leading centres in clinical and biomedical research. Monash University is one of the other funding partners of AMREP. 10

11 Monash University Just and Carolina always took care of me during my placement. They even called themselves as my new Mum and Dad ;-) I ve highly enjoyed meeting those lovely guys! 16 Travelling After spending a lot of time with my tourist guide, I decided to travel to Sydney, to the Whitsundays and experience the Natural State of Australia, Tasmania. Sydney 16

17 Harbour Bridge & Opera House The Rocks is where Sydney began. The precinct became established shortly after the colony's formation in This area had a reputation as a slum, today the Rocks is a partly gentrified area but there is still a significant problem of urban poverty and street crime. 17
