2 INTRODUCTION The 54th Annual Conference of Australian Marine Sciences Association (AMSA) will be held in Darwin at the Doubletree Hilton Darwin Entertainment Centre complex during 2 6 July We warmly invite you to join us for this premier event that each year attracts delegates in marine science, technology, policy and related fields from around the nation, regionally and beyond. AMSA ( is Australia s peak professional marine science body, with approaching 1000 members from around the country active in a diverse range of disciplines and workplaces. It has for over 50 years promoted all aspects of marine science in Australia and coordinated discussion and debate of marine issues in Australia. AMSA operates with a membership network of individuals and corporate affiliates as a not-for-profit organisation. The greatest global extent of shallow tropical seas is around northern Australia and to our near north. The concept for the AMSA 2017 conference Connections through Shallow Seas has a number of intended connotations. The first is in the traditional domains of marine science e.g. oceanographic currents linking the seas around northern Australia; common water properties in the Arafura and Timor Seas (ATS) and across the top of the continent; connectivities of marine biota populations from small to large scales; and extending through to the integration of science seen in interdisciplinary studies of the region. The second is the human dimension: the connections between the Traditional Owners along the coastline of northern Australia and their knowledge of their marine domain, and also the regional connections both historical (e.g. Macassans) and modern connections with our near neighbours Indonesia, Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea, and our sharing of the ATS. Third is the existing and formative marine science relationships in the region e.g. ATSEA (Arafura Timor Sea Ecosystem Action Program) and Coral Triangle Initiative. Finally, there is the relevance of marine science of shallow seas globally. AMSA 2017 will also be a little special for the Association with heightened focus on the societal reach of our science, especially with respect to Indigenous exchange / connection. This will be represented by the Indigenous Workshop to be continued from the activities at the joint NZMSS AMSA 2016 in Wellington, but also in other ways. You can also rely, as in preceding AMSA conferences, on a variety of session themes to encompass topical, around-the-nation interests, and invited symposia will tap motivations from within the Association membership. Terms & Conditions The following Terms and Conditions apply to ALL Sponsorship and Exhibition Stand Packages: Confirmation of sponsorship is not final until receipt of Sponsorship & Exhibition Agreement Form. Payment of sponsorship monies is required at the time of your booking; entitlements may not be fulfilled if payment in full has not been received. The Conference Convenor and the Organisers will take the utmost care to fulfil all listed benefits. All marketing material and artwork must be provided by the sponsor at the sponsor s own cost and provided to the Event Organiser, Britta Decker, Agentur Professional Conferences & Events, prior to 31 May Inclusions in the AMSA2017 print material will be forfeited if sponsorship is not confirmed and payment received prior to printing deadlines. If not able to be resold, the company will be liable to pay the following fees: 50% of the total sponsorship/exhibition fee, if the cancellation request is received in writing before 30 April % of the total sponsorship/exhibition fee, if the cancellation request is received in writing after 30 April 2017 Any refunds of deposits paid will be made after the Conference but no later than 31 August The company will not be entitled to any interest that the organiser may have derived from deposits made by the company.
