4 GOLD COAST Cont d: THOUGHTS Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the holiday. A conscience is what hurts when all your other parts feel good. My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance. Middle age is when broadness of the mind & narrowness of the waist change places. Men are from earth. Women are from earth. Deal with it. 70/90 CMD Murray Ingrim/John Birrell Jeff Brown/Paul Zillfleisch 110 CMD John Decker/David Smith Mark Henesey-Smith/John Rivers 120 CMD Terry McLellan/Ray West Kevin Smith/Ollie Smith 130 CMD A Mick Bruton/Tom Downie Ray Cush/Ken Searson 130 CMD B Stuart McLay/Richard Tyrwhitt Ross McLeod/Robert Murray 140 CMD A Don Anderson/Alan Hocking Ian King/Tony Harkin 140 CMD B Neale Hook/Ed Tucker Graham Jones/Reg Payne 140 CMD C John Paul/John Wakely Claude Wenzel/Ken Cutcliff 90 CLD Leanne Chapman/Lorraine Parker Leanne Colvin/Robyn Tagget 100 CLD Loretta Beekhuyzen/Maryanne Winter Kaye Wyvill/Christine Evans 110 CLD A Jan Johns/Ros Hand Helen Oxley/Gail Roach 120 CLD Margaret Wayte/Lyn Wayte Norma G-McGhie/Val Balnave 35 XD A Ros Birrell/John Birrell Lyn Waller/Ray Cush 35 XD B Sharon Hoole/Matthew Hoole Jany Brownrigg/James Holyman 40 XD Loretta Funnell/Kevin Bianchi Lisa Gardiner/David Teys 45 XD A Bronwyn Draper/Kevin Bianchi Ros Hand/Glen Skewes 45 XD B May Howard/Ernie Young Margaret Daniell/Dennis Biggs 50 XD A Ros Hand/John Wickham Gay Barnett/Keith Kropp 50 XD B Sue Faulks/Chris Lewis May Howard/Ernie Young 50 XD C Shirley Wilkinson/Geoff Legge Julianne Daniel/Neil Higgins 55 XD A Carol-Ann Robinson/Ken Geldenhuis Merleen Anderson/Bob Martin 55 XD B Shirley Wilkinson/Geoff Legge Lois Baverstock/Ross Baverstock 60 XD A Lyn Wayte/Mick Bruton Donna Walker/Lee Taylor 60 XD B Kaye Wyvill/Alan Lynch Liona Wulf/John Wulf 65 XD A Jill Taylor/John S Walker Margaret Wayte/Tony Harkin 65 XD B Thea Loeskow/David Russell Pauline Squire/Eric Moser 70 XD A Barbara Unicomb/Graham Jones Esme Tobin/Graham Brown 90 CXD Fay Howard/Darren Maurice Venita Rostas/David Colman 110 CXD A Mi Ran Kim/Peter Froelich Ros Hand/Brian Savage 110 CXD B Shirley Wilkinson/Geoff Legge Lyn Stamper/Robert Newton 120 CXD Donna Walker/Lee Taylor Merleen Anderson/Bob Martin 130 CXD Nola Collins/George Collins Norma G-McGhie/John S Walker 140 CXD Noelene Schubert/Don Anderson Barbara Unicomb/Graham Jones SENIORS TURKEY, APRIL 2007 AUSTRALIA WOMEN NO. 5 The DAWSON CALLIDE VALLEY s 20th Open tournament was held in Biloela on May with 110 players participating. It was pleasing to see 35 local vets (representing the five towns) join the visitors from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Brisbane, Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Rolleston and other areas. Our first tournament was held in 1988 and 27 of the original players from that tournament were in Biloela for the weekend with 15 of them also participating in this year s tournament. Great to see Dorrie Kelland and Eleanor Bainbridge back watching the tennis. At a well-attended dinner dance, Don and Beryl Kerr were presented with a plaque for 20 years of support by buying trophies and Stewart Anderson also received a plaque for being President since the Association was formed and tournament director for all of the 20 tournaments. The celebration cake was cut by June Baxter, the first Secretary-Treasurer of the Association, Patroness, Edna Hindle and President Stewart Anderson. Congratulations to Val Willett, Jenny Thompson and Merv Bidgood who were the only players who played and won their events in all four sessions. The oldest player at the tournament was Ron Rehbein (Bundaberg) and the youngest player was Steven White (Benaraby). Ron had also played in the first tournament and we appreciate his continued support. All players were given a commemorative coffee mug for attending this event. (Thanks to Clarice White, hard-working Secretary of the Association for this report.) 35 MD A Merv & Brian Bidgood Geoff Pedersen/Steven White 35 MD B Sel Bath/Malcolm Motley Greg Stewart/John Teakle 50 MD Peter Holst/Viv Fiedler Keith Johnson/Ross Baverstock 60 MD Ian Lorensen/Gary Bourne Murray Irvine/Richard Moffat 70 MD Leo Dingle/Don Eather Ron Rehbein/Alan Searle 35 LD A Roz Melton/Jenny Thompson Leeza Hewitt/Ann Leinster 35 LD B Carol Shaw/Bev Balnaves Desley Maslen/Dulcie Wragge 50 LD Veronica Cross/Lyn Udris Maree Doman/Louise Blomfield 55 LD Val Willett/Lois Baverstock Vicky Barrett/Barbara Wilson 65 LD Pat O Gorman/Coral Vickers Jessie Evans/Betty Searle 70 LD Esme Tobin/Joy Dingle June Baxter/Bub Bean 90 CMD A Cameron James/Glen Hocking Steven White/Paul Donovan 90 CMD B Chris Hunter/John Teakle Stewart Anderson/Ray McCann 100 CMD Merv & Brian Bidgood Keith Johnson/Ross Baverstock 120 CMD Murray Irvine/Richard Moffat Alan Lynch/Allen Samuelsson 130 CMD Ian Lorensen/Gary Bourne Les Tanzer/Noel Bennedick 90 CLD A Roz Melton/Jenny Thompson Ann Leinster/Glenda Donovan 90 CLD B Dulcie Wragge/Desley Maslen Ann Eisenmenger/Glenda Donovan 110 CLD Bub Bean/Leeza Hewitt Vicky Barrett/Lindsay Moffat 130 CLD Val Willett/Joy Dingle June Baxter/Lois Baverstock 140 CLD Jessie Evans/Betty Searle Coral Vickers/Joyce Young 35 XD A Jenny Thompson/Merv Bidgood Roz Melton/Geoff Pedersen 35 XD B Janet Dahl/Sel Bath Louise Blomfield/Max Anderson 45 XD Thea Loeskow/Ken Stokes Ann Leinster/Viv Fiedler 55 XD Val & Col Willett Lois & Ross Baverstock 60 XD Esme Tobin/Richard Moffat Dawn Clay/Rob Pedersen 65 XD Joy & Leo Dingle Coral Vickers/Ian Lorensen 90 CXD A Jenny Thompson/Merv Bidgood Ann Leinster/Doug Humphries 90 CXD B Jenny Wragge/Ray McCann Ann & Slava Prokopovich 110 CXD Div 1 Carol Shaw/Alan Lynch Margaret & Philip Ross 110 CXD Div 2 Val & Col Willett Peggy Sack/Barry Bainbridge 130 CXD Pat O Gorman/Gary Bourne Coral Vickers/Ian Lorensen All-time favourite joke of Maurie Fields Australia s legendary funnyman. A bloke was driving down the highway when he was pulled over by the cops. What did I do, sarge, he yells out as the cop walks up. Nothin, mate. You just happen to be the onemillionth driver who s been along this road since it s been open, and you ve been awarded a $1000 prize. Bewdy, sarge, he says. So what do you reckon you might spend it on, the sergeant inquires. I reckon I might take the money and get some driving lessons so I can get my licence. What!!! the cop explodes. Just then the bloke s wife leans over from the passenger seat and bellows: Don t take any notice of him, sarge, he s drunk. And the mother-in-law, from the back seat, thumps the bloke on the shoulder and screams: See I told ya you d get into trouble driving a stolen car!!!

7 BUNDABERG VETERANS TOURNAMENT 9-11 JUNE The Bundaberg Veterans tournament was able to be staged and completed although the granite surfaces had received almost 100ml of rain in days leading up to the event. More than 130 competitors took part in the long weekend s events which provided strong competition and received support from interstate players and others who were making their first visit to this popular tournament. 35 MS Garth Dix Dennis Luketic 40 MS Garth Dix Greg Stewart 50 MS Wayne Houston Ken Stokes 55 MS Ed Tucker Peter Holst 60 MS VINCE CHESHIRE MEMORIAL Terry McLellan Noel Cheshire 70 MS Ron Hambleton Nev Langford 35 MD Dennis Luketic/Brian Kunst Boyd Hurst/Russell Gersekowski 40 MD Michael Bandholz/Wayne Harris Tony Devine/Rod Shepherdson 40 MD B Nev Sauer/Marco Mark John Kratzmann/Jim Adam 45 MD Rod Shepherdson/Tony Devine Peter Haydock/John Arnold 50 MD Ken Stokes/Merv Rickards Keith Johnson/Merv Bidgood 55 MD Don Anderson/Merv Rickards Murray Irvine/Ed Tucker 55 MD B Harvey Dingle/Roger Keech Jim Adam/Bert Heidrich 60 MD Noel Cheshire/Terry McLellan Kevin Bradley/Wally Teis 65 MD Les Tanzer/John Walker John Kirkpatrick/Col Arnell 70 MD Don Anderson/Ron Hambleton Nev Langford/Ian Macdonald 35 LD Jenny Thompson/Roz Melton Leeza Hewitt/Trish Dudley 40 LD Ros Evans/DiSwan Roz Melton/Jenny Thompson 50 LD Shirley Wilkinson/Judith Rodins Lois Baverstock/Carol Shaw 50 LD B Jacqui Marshall/Judy Zahn Judy Cross/Tess Robson 55 LD Daphne Moni/Donna Walker Judith Rodins/Lynne Tucker 55 LD B Julianne Daniel/Glenda Donovan Judy Zahn/Judy Cross 60 LD Donna Walker/Norma G-McGhie Lyn Wayte/Joy Rigter 65 LD Joy Rigter/Lyn Wayte Coral Vickers/Pat O Gorman 90 CMD Russell Gersekowski/Peter Haydock Rod Shepherdson/Barry Bainbridge 100 CMD Ken Stokes/Col Gibbons Geoff Legge/Alan Lynch 100 CMD B Jim Adam/John Kratzmann John Kirkpatrick/Col Arnell 120 CMD Terry McLellan/Noel Cheshire Wally Teis/Kevin Bradley 130 CMD Don Anderson/Merv Rickards Ron Hambleton/John S Walker 140 CMD Kerry Burke/Garth Wenck Ian Macdonald/Nev Langford 90 CLD Jenny Thompson/Roz Melton Dalys Young/Karen Christoff 100 CLD Judith Rodins/Ros Evans Di Zelinski/Dawn Shepherdson 100 CLD B Carol Shaw/Judy Cross Joan Horvath/Margaret Keightley 120 CLD Donna Walker/Daphne Moni Norma G-McGhie/Di Swan 130 CLD Joy Rigter/Lyn Wayte Joy Dingle/Jenny Griggs 35 XD Rod Shepherdson/Kym Ireland Tony Devine/Ros Evans 40 XD Tony Devine/Ros Evans Rod Shepherdson/Kym Ireland 40 XD B Greg Stewart/Judy Cross Kevin Hogan/Jennifer Brown 45 XD Neil Higgins/Julianne Daniel Michael Bandholz/Karen Christoff 45 XD B Kevin Hogan/Jennifer Brown Marco Mark/Lyn Collins 50 XD Ken Stokes/ Di Swan Geoff Legge/Shirley Wilkinson 55 XD Wally Teis/Donna Walker Geoff Legge/Shirley Wilkinson 55 XD B John & Ada Kirkpatrick John Kratzmann/Judy Zahn 60 XD Terry McLellan/Donna Walker John S Walker/Norma G-McGhie 60 XD B John & Ada Kirkpatrick Bob Baldry/Thea Loeskow PUNS have been decried by some purerthan-thous as the lowest form of humour, but we agree with Edgar Allan Poe who wrote: Of puns it has been said that those who most dislike them are those who are least able to utter them.
