6 CELEBRATING THE GAMES
7 FESTIVAL 2018 Held across 12 days in April, Festival 2018 will feature a mix of highly acclaimed theatrical productions, an electric array of world-class musicians, breathtaking dance and physical theatre pieces, striking visual art and traditional Indigenous arts practice, to surprise and delight audiences of all ages. These events will attract increased foot traffic at certain periods and will create the need for additional services. Full program details will be released in early February For more information visit gc2018.com/festival2018 QUEEN S BATON RELAY The Queen s Baton Relay (QBR) is a Games tradition that celebrates the Commonwealth s diversity and creates excitement for the sports and cultural festival to come. The Queen s Baton carries a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the Commonwealth s athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition. After arriving in Australia on 24 December 2017, it will travel across the country for 100 days before arriving at the Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018 when the message will be read out to officially open the Games. Due to large crowds expected to view the relay and the convoy of police and accredited vehicles escorting the Baton and runners, temporary traffic changes will occur along the route for various periods of time and parking may be restricted. Businesses should become familiar with the relay course to determine if there is any changes to business operations. For more information, visit gc2018.com/qbr getsetforthegames.com 7

12 CHALLENGES for businesses Leading up to and during the Games, there will be daily changes to our transport network that will affect your business and the way that you operate. Some of the temporary changes will include: road closures venue construction changed traffic conditions parking restrictions changes to freight operations road events Games Route Network including Games Lanes. 13 What is the Games Route Network? The Games Route Network (GRN) is a series of designated roads linking the Commonwealth Games Village to all competition and noncompetition venues and airports. As a requirement of a host city, it is the most efficient means of facilitating safe, secure and reliable transport for athletes and officials. During the Games, the roads on the GRN will generally be available for use by all traffic but they will be busier than usual depending on the events in the area. A key section of the GRN is referred to as the Core GRN which is where Games Lanes will be activated. Games Lanes are dedicated traffic lanes which will be reserved only for use by public transport, official GC2018 vehicles and emergency services and will be clearly marked and signed. More detailed information about the GRN and Games Lanes is available at getsetforthegames.com/grn TRAFFIC DISPLACED BY THE GRN MAY ALSO CAUSE OTHER PARTS OF THE ROAD NETWORK ACROSS THE CITY AND AROUND VENUES TO BE CONGESTED.

24 ENTERTAINING during the Games Essential food safety requirements: Delivery of the Commonwealth Games brings higher expectations regarding management of events in terms of safety, community impact and integration with GC2018 activities. For these reasons, if you want to hold an event just before or during the Games, then it is important that approval to stage an event be sought earlier then would normally be expected. As usual, event organisers must complete a brief application for events being delivered on public land. Please visit getsetforthegames.com for more information. Food safety is always an important issue for businesses, but with large numbers of visitors coming to the Gold Coast for GC2018, food safety will be of critical importance and you will need to ensure that you are up to date with all of the requirements of serving food during the Games: all permanent and temporary food businesses must hold a current licence as per the Queensland Food Act 2006 you must hold a current City permit to allow for footpath dining outside of your business. 27 WASTE SERVICES To accommodate changes in traffic conditions, bin collection times and/ or days may also change and will be earlier than usual during GC2018 and the weeks leading up to the Games. Please ensure your bins are placed out for collection the night before your service day to avoid a missed service and be mindful when placing your bins out and ensure that our contractor trucks can access them. If your bin needs replacing or fixing, we recommend organising this before GC2018 as there may be delays to this service over the Games period. We encourage business to review their waste and recycling needs and contact us if you need extra services during this time. For more information visit cityofgoldcoast.com.au/ replaceyourbin or call us on Updated information will be available in early January at getsetforthegames.com PERMITS Local Access Permits For safety and security reasons some areas near venues will have restricted vehicle access in the lead up to and during GC2018. Anyone identified as needing a local access permit will be contacted directly.
