It was a delight that so many of you attended the open house weekend celebrating the Mansion s reopening after its renovation and enhancement. I hope you had the opportunity to meet our new Executive Chef, Tim Turner. You ll immediately begin seeing his culinary craftsmanship in the new lunch and dinner menus that have debuted. We encourage you to use the dining gift card that was mailed to you and personally experience the renewed energy of both the Mansion and its restaurant. Looking ahead, the Change of Command is planned for March 28. This proud Epping Forest tradition annually attracts a large contingent of members. We hope to see you in attendance! All Members are invited to join us on Friday, March 28 to both induct the 2014 Board of Governors and welcome Debra Braddock (on left) as incoming Commodore. A 6 p.m. reception in the Formal Garden featuring complimentary hors d oeuvres and cocktails will be followed by the official ceremony at 6:45 p.m. A four-course dinner in the Mansion with wine service will commence at 7:30 p.m. and is priced at $75 per person with gratuity and tax additional. It s here from 5-8 p.m., the children s knee-high buffet is featured along with casual dinner menu. The young ones also receive a complimentary dessert. Chef Turner received a Culinary Arts Degree from the famed Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. During the past 21 years, he has honed his craft at such honored hotels and dining establishments as the Ritz Carlton Boston, Ritz Carlton Atlanta, The Lodge at Sea Island in Georgia and most recently, at The Lodge & Club in Ponte Vedra Beach. Food trends and fads do little to impact his inventive menus which he describes as a personalized interpretation of modern World Cuisine prepared with classical cooking techniques. Chef Turner will be responsible for all aspects of food operations including staff training and menu development for restaurants and banquets. Butcher Block Night On Saturday, March 22 from 5-9 p.m., the Mansion will take on the look of an old-fashioned steakhouse. It s here that members can personally select from the finest cuts of Certified Angus Beef, Rib eye, Filet Mignon, New York Strip and have it prepared as desired. It s also served with one family-style side. Seafood lovers will also enjoy a variety of grilled fish favorites as well. Menu priced accordingly. It s here that the Chef will present Angus Beef Burgers, Turkey Burgers and Veggie Burgers along with more than 25 various toppings allowing members to personally create their own culinary masterpiece. The cost is $12 per adult and $6 per child with gratuity and tax additional. The Café menu will also be available.

5 Club Happenings Grand Seafood Buffet A Grand Seafood Buffet for members and guests is being featured on Friday, March 7 in the Mansion. Expect a lavish spread of soup, fresh salads, a raw bar, entrée s, sides and desserts all for an attractive price of $49.95 per person with gratuity and tax additional. The Seafood buffet will be the only menu offered for the evening. Call for reservations. Brunch with Hercules Jacksonville s Catty Shack Ranch is bringing one of its prized residents, Hercules a 400 pound Siberian tiger, to Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club on Sunday, March 9 for Sunday Brunch. There will also be a face painter and other fun activities for the children. Brunch is $18.95 for Adults along with a $6.95 knee high buffet for Kids (4-12). Gratuity and tax additional. Call for more information. Dining News & Notes The Mansion will be closed for dinner on Friday, March 21. On this evening, the Wheelhouse Café will be open from 5-8 p.m. March Malbec Madness Mendoza Valley, Argentina s largest winemaking region located in the foothills of the Andes is known for producing the popular Malbec wine. Epping Forest will celebrate this robust red grape varietal by offering members a selection of Malbec wines throughout March at special prices. We invite you to raise your glass.

6 Club Happenings The Luck of the Irish We re hosting a member mixer sure to make St. Patrick proud! Join us in the Chartroom Lounge on Tuesday, March 18 from 5-7 p.m. as we celebrate the land of Erin with a selection of light hors d oeuvres, desserts and happy hour specials. Each member will receive a four leaf clover that can be redeemed for a complimentary drink after all leaves have been stamped. Meet key Epping Forest personnel and learn about coming Club activities. $12 per person with gratuity and tax additional. Yappy Hour With the gardens as a backdrop, members and their K-9 companions will be gathering at the Mansion s back patio on Thursday, March 27 from 5-7 p.m. for a Yappy Hour celebration. Offered will be appetizer specials, half-priced cocktails, beer and wine for the masters while the four-legged friends will enjoy complimentary treats and bowls of water. A Taste of the Andes Join fellow members on Tuesday, March 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. for another in the popular series of wine tastings. This month, we ll compare wines from Argentina and Chile. Due to climate and altitude, the southern Andes mountain range in South America produces some of the finest grapes in the world. A wine expert will lead the tasting, educating all on the subtleties, vintage and appellation of a selection of reds and whites from both Argentina and Chile. 8 Tennis News Order on the Court Debbie Rensing at the net Members looking to improve their game are invited to participate in one of Epping Forest s popular tennis clinics. Each up-tempo, high energy and motivational clinic provides general instruction on stroke technique and strategy for both singles and doubles play. Select from the following weekly offerings: Gentlemen: Tuesday 6-7:30 p.m. & Saturday 9:30-11 a.m. Ladies: Thursday 9:30-11 a.m. & 6:30-8 p.m. Each 90-minute clinic is priced at $18 per person. Please register at the Fitness Center front desk or call A Youth Movement Underway A lifetime sport starts when one s young. Look to these fun and instructional tennis programs designed for Epping s younger members: Tennis for Tots (ages 4-6). In a fun and nurturing environment, the children will learn the proper grip, footwork and basic strokes. Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-4 p.m. Future Stars (ages 7-11). The basic strokes and techniques leading up to sustaining a rally and eventually playing games and matches. Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5 p.m. Tween Tennis (ages 11-14). Ideal to those new to the game or those wishing to improve strokes, consistency and strategy. Tuesday at 5-6 p.m. Please register at the Fitness Center front desk or call TENNIS TIP: Cooler Temps and Your Game From Joe Perrone, Director of Tennis Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club Remember, when playing in cooler weather you ll need to adjust your on-court habits. Since tennis balls don t bounce as high in cold weather, plan for a lower trajectory. This means you ll have to bend your knees deeper in order to meet the ball through the hitting zone at a lower plane. Consider hitting some low slices or drop shots from this lower stance. I also suggest you take a bit longer in your pre-match warm up routine to stretch out your lower torso. Stay warm and keep your eyes on the ball. Addison Glisson with a drop shot

9 Fitness News On Your Mark... The finish line is in sight for the big race on March 15. More than 400 Team GATE members will be out in full force either running or walking the 5K or the 15K. A new winning Team GATE Club will be crowned, as well as the overall fastest Team GATE male and female. Team GATE members may pick up Team shirts and other materials at the Pasta Dinner at The Outpost on March 13. For those not attending the dinner, materials may be picked up at the Fitness Center on March 14. Check the website at com for all the Team and race day information. Good luck to all! 10 Kids Corner Friday Night Pizza Party The next Pizza Party for Kids will be held on Friday, March 7 from 6:30-10 p.m. in the Cub s Den. The young ones (4-12 yrs.), will celebrate Mardi Gras by creating their own festive mask. Pizza, beverage and a Mardi Gras King cake will be served. The cost is $15 per child and $10 for each additional sibling. Call the Fitness Center at by 2 p.m. that afternoon for reservations. Here s a great opportunity for parents to enjoy the Grand Seafood Buffet this evening in the Mansion. Calling all Tweens! On Saturday, March 15 from 6-9 p.m., Tweens (ages yrs.) will enjoy an evening with friends in the Wheelhouse Café featuring fun, music, pizza and games such as corn hole, ladder ball, Wii, ping pong, giant jenga, and more. Spring Break Kids Camp School Spring Break 14 is scheduled for March and March and the Cub s Den is ready with a program of organized games, recreational activities, boat rides, fishing, tennis and arts and crafts for children. Parents may choose a full-day program (8 a.m. - 3 p.m.) and an extended day program (3-5:30 p.m.). (SEE COMPLETE LIST HERE) Call the Fitness Center at Camp Out in the Gardens A camper s delight! Members are invited to pitch their tents in the Garden on Saturday afternoon, April 5 for the annual Epping Forest family overnight camp out. The festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. and continue through the evening with a hamburger and hotdog cookout, games, crafts, bounce house, a movie and S mores by the campfire. Upon awakening in the morning, all campers will enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, juice and milk. The overnight experience is priced at $25 for adults and $20 for kids with gratuity and tax additional. Reservations and signed waivers are requested no later than April 2. Contact Susan at

11 On the Docks Fleet Meeting & Social The next Fleet Meeting & Social will occur on Thursday, March 6 in the Mansion. The social starts at 5 p.m. and will feature a selection of complimentary hors d oeuvres and a member charge bar for beverages. The meeting will commence at 6 p.m. Eric Land, President & General Manager of WTLV/WJXX TV in Jacksonville will be the guest speaker at the meeting. All Epping Forest club members are invited to attend this monthly event. Spring Break Sailing Camps The week of March 17 and the week of March 24 will each feature a Spring Break Sailing Camp for students (grades 3-12). No prior experience is needed. All will learn to sail while enjoying such fun activities as treasure hunts, swimming and more. Experienced sailors will explore the river, learn advanced techniques (like sailing backwards) and participate in sailboat racing. Each 5-day camp (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) is priced at $300 per child and includes a daily lunch and snack. Register with Harbormaster, John Tipton at or at jtipton@efyc.com. Amelia Island Weekend Cruise The Marina s boat cruise to Amelia Island scheduled for the weekend of March 6-9 is at capacity and no longer taking reservations. Epping Forest members can expect additional weekend group cruises in the near future. These trips will be listed in coming newsletters. Afterschool/Saturday Sailing Registrations are currently being accepted for Epping Forest s Spring Youth Sailing program. Space is limited as certain days and levels will sell out. Physical Education credit is also available for approved students.
