2 The Largest Industrial Project in World History Canada s oil sands are found in three deposits the Athabasca, Peace River and Cold Lake deposits in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The oil sands are at the surface near Fort McMurray but deeper underground in the other areas.

4 Air transportation is vital to the success of the Oil Sands Project 47 airports in the region Total of 2 million passengers annually and growing dramatically

5 AOSA Air Transportation Study Main Recommendations A Regional Aviation Advisory Group be formed to act as a consultative body to co-ordinate and circulate information between airport operators, users, providers of aviation services and regulators Greater co-use of private airstrips that allow use by multiple oil sands companies. The Provincial and Federal Governments should consider increasing the scale and scope of financial support to public regional and community airports in the Region A formal review of the air medical evacuation service for the Region should be conducted The report also provides recommendations in relation to Transport Canada, NAV Canada, the Department of National Defence and Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, recommendations that will lead to much improved communications, cooperation, safety and efficiency
