25 Proponent The Brazilian Association for the Development of the Hospital Building is an independent, multidisciplinary Brazilian entity, constituted by professionals and researchers related to the Brazilian healthcare sector, whose main goal is to contribute to the continuous advancement of the national healthcare infrastructure, from the design stages to the operation. ABDEH has organized six congresses, the CBDEHs, with growing success and relevance. Its first Congress happened in the northeastern city of Salvador, in Five other congresses were held in the cities of Rio de Janeiro (2006), Porto Alegre (2008), Brasília (2010), São Paulo (2012) and Florianópolis (2014). Speakers like Romano Del Nord, Jain Malkin, João Filgueiras Lima, Siegbert Zanetinni, Alan Dilani and Goran Lindahl, among others, have taken part as keynote speakers in the past editions of the congress. The 7 th CBDEH will mark the return to Salvador city, where it began 11 years ago. With the experience gathered from these growingly international meetings, ABDEH now proposes to organize an International Seminar in 2017, along with the IFHE Executive Committee and Council Meetings, at the next olympic venue, the former national capital and world class city of Rio de Janeiro.

26 The hospital engineering and architecture market in Brazil Fifth largest country in area and population, with 8.51 million square kilometers and about 204 million inhabitants (2015), Brazil recorded in 2012, a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of US$ 2.2 trillion, the seventh largest on the planet. Brazil has a fast growing healthcare market, with big investments currently being made. The numbers show the size of the investments: in 2009, the Union, states and municipalities allocated around R$ 79 billion ($ 39 billion) to the Public Network (SUS), while the private network contributed approximately R$ 91 billion ($ 45 billion). Brazil There are approximately 7,500 hospitals in Brazil, with more than 500,000 hospital beds. Recently the government has approved a new legislation, that alows foreign investment in the health sector, which will mean even more investments in a wider range of services. Rio de Janeiro

27 IFHE International Seminar objective Main Objective: The International Seminar will provide the opportunity for professionals from more than 50 countries, with different backgrounds and experiences, to discuss and share knowledge about the application of technologies, processes and materials that provide for safer patient and worker experiences. Additional objectives: 1. Strenghtening the visibility and participation of the IFHE in Brazil and in Latin America 2. Fostering the exchange of high quality information, and especially in Rio de Janeiro a city that will be the focus of much attention in the next few years. Rio also has received some of the largest investments in healthcare Infrastructure in all of Brazil. 3. Opening up the opportunity for the discussion of new technologies among professionals and potential investors in the Brazilian Healthcare market

Represented by the Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the World Seven Wonders, the city grows quickly, particularly in the region of Barra da Tijuca, district of west zone where we plan to organize the International Seminar of IFHE. The city s receiving significant private and governmental investments focused on its infrastructure due to the Summer Olympic Games in 2016, improving the transportation system in the entire city, especially in Barra da Tijuca.

36 Possible technical visits The Americas Medical City is part of AMIL s investment, large health insurance company in Brazil. It is a sqm area built complex that gathers the Samaritano and the Vitória Hospitals, totallying 494 beds, 16 surgery rooms and 11 Day Hospital beds. There is also a Robotic Surgery Center and 2 hybrid rooms for minimally invasive surgeries. The health insurance companies have been investing large amounts in private hospitals, the Unimed-Rio Hospital has sqm of:: beds; - 11 operating rooms (one of the is a hybrid room) - Intensive Therapy Unit ; - Adult intensive Care units ; - Semi- Intensive Care Unit ; - Bone Marrow Transplant Unit ; - Hospital Support Unit The SARAH International Center for Neurorehabilitation and Neuroscience is located in Barra da Tijuca and admits adults and children with congenital or acquired injuries of the central and peripheral nervous system. The architecture of the SARAH Rio unit offers large, integrated spaces, promoting interdisciplinary work, case discussions and the exchange of experiences among patients.
