Over his career he played as a winger for Manchester United and the Northern Ireland national team and was described as the greatest player to ever pull on the green shirt of Northern Ireland. He was quickly signed to United by chief scout Joe Armstrong in 1961 and made his debut for the club aged 17, after turning professional in During his time at Manchester United, Best became the club s top goal scorer in the league for five consecutive seasons, scoring 179 goals from 470 appearances over 11 years. In 1968, he won the European Cup with Manchester United, and was named the European Footballer of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year. After the United years, Best played for Fulham alongside Bobby Moore, Hibernian and finally Bournemouth until 1984 when he retired aged 37. Known as one of the greatest dribblers of all time, his career is defined by his amazing speed, balance, vision, and uncontainable zest for the game that has motivated many footballers over the years.
