11 PREFACE Most of the data for this report was first collected in In 1982, the data base was scrutinized and modified. The result was a set of over 350 tables covering a wide range of socio-economic indicators /1 generally pertaining to the period A set each of t'hese tables is available at the EBank's Resident Mission in Jakarta and the Indonesia Programs Divisicin and the Regional Information Center at the Headquarters. The present volume contains some of the tables selected from the original set. The principal source of data is the Central Bureau of Statistics (Biro Pusat Statistik) which publishes, in addition to various selected statistical reports, an annual statistical pocketbook and an yearbook. These contain almost all the socio-economic data at the national and provincial levels. Similar publications by the provincial statistical offices contain provincial and sub-provincial level statistics. The data reported in this volume were obtained almost entirely from the publications of t:he Central Bureau of Statistics. In regard to some of the ser:les (e.g., provincial gross domestic product), Bank staff made some adjustments and these are detailed in the explanatory notes /2 preceding t'he series. /1 Indonesia: Provincial Data, , issued on November 4, /2 Throughout this volume, the symbol "_" indicates that dlata are not available.

21 SECTION 3 REGIONAL GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT AT CURRENT PRICES

22 I

23 EXPLANATORY NOTE The Central Bureau of Statistics has recently standardized the methodology for making provincial gross domestic product estimates 1/. The relevant manual 21 was issued in December Thus, regional estimates for 1970 through 1980 do not yet fall into a pattern which is hundred percent consistent with the national gross domestic product. The orders of difference by sector between total national GDP and the sums ofprovincial GDPs are indicated in Table 3.A. By sector, we have adjusted the provincial GDP's pro-rata to the national GDP. This procedure was followed for 1971 through For 1970, 1978 and 1979, there were no regional data for a couple of provinces. These were estimated on the basis of the 1971 or 1977 patterns by sector. Table 3.A. Ratio of Indonesia Total Sectoral GDP to the Total Sectoral RGDP of 26 provinces Agriculture Mining Industry Construction Electricity, etc Transport, comm Trade/Hotel, rest Banking & other House rental Public Administration Services / Provincial estimates were not available for East Timor, and was not accounted for in the national statistics also (except that in 1978 and 1979, general government activities in East Timor were accounted for). 2/ Biro Pusat Statistik, Pedoman Penghitungan Pendapatan Regional, Jakarta, December, 1980.

51 SECTION 4 REGIONAL GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT AT CONSTANT 1973 PRICES

52 c~~~~~~~~

53 EXPLANATORY NOTE For different provinces, the constant price series had different base years. As a first step, these were all brought to 1973 base. The methodology was simply to use the 1973 current price data by sector and extrapolate them with the real growth rates for the various years. The orders of difference by sector between total national GDP at 1973 prices and the sums of provincial GDPs are indicated in Table 4A. By sector, we have adjusted the provincial GDP's pro-rata to the national GDP. This procedure was followed for 1971 through For 1970, 1978 and 1979, there were no regional data for a couple of provinces. These were estimated on the basis of the 1971 or 1977 patterns by sector.
