1 WESTERN AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIALS WORLD WAR II: ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE ROLL OF HONOUR Introduction. This document provides information about the Western Australian component of the Royal Australian Air Force Roll of Honour for World War II. It consists of: The Roll of Honour for Airmen who enlisted in Western Australia in the order shown on the 10 Bronze Plaques and 1 Women s Services Plaque affixed to the Undercroft of the State War Memorial In Kings Park, Perth. The Roll of Honour for Indigenous Airmen. A Supplemental Roll of Honour of for Airman who enlisted from WA, but whose names have not been included on those Plaques. A list of the names of Airmen from Western Australia who died in service with Commonwealth Air Forces. A list of the names of Airmen who are listed on the State Memorial but whose deaths fall outside the Australian War Memorial (AWM) qualifying period (deaths from 3 September 1939 to 30 June 1947) or otherwise do not qualify for the AWM Roll of Honour. For Airmen who qualify for the AWM Roll of Honour, local Rolls of Honour using information from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) WWII Nominal Roll. For Airmen who qualify for the AWM Roll of Honour but have no local Roll of Honour nominated, lists of Places of Birth from the DVA WWII Nominal Roll. The Air Training Plan (ATP) (often referred to as the Empire Air Training Scheme) was an agreement signed in Ottawa in late 1939 under which Canada, Australia and New Zealand were to provide a specified number of trained aircrew members (Pilots, Observers / Navigators and Wireless Air Gunners) on a monthly basis to Great Britain to supplement the RAF in the War against Germany. There was also provision for the formation of National Squadrons (Article XV). Under this Article, the RAAF formed 17 Squadrons to 464, 466 and while the RCAF formed 41 and the RNZAF 4 Squadrons. Of these RAAF Article XV Squadrons, only (Dec41-Feb42), 452 and 457 (Sep42-Sep45) fought in the Pacific War. As the result of the ATP, a large number of RAAF personnel died in service with RAF units and their names have been shown in Red to illustrate the effect the Plan had on the RAAF disposition and casualty count of its Airmen during WWII. This document can be searched by text and is bookmarked for ease of navigation. Further biographical and Service information for each Airman may be found on the National Archives of Australia, the AWM, the Commonwealth Graves Commission, and the DVA Websites.
