3 ABOUT Welcome to the 08 AEROSPACE MAINTENANCE COMPETITION presented by Snap-on! There s a reason why you re here. You exemplify the knowledge, skills and integrity that make our profession what it is today and we look forward to seeing those hallmarks on display this week at the Aerospace Maintenance Competition Presented by Snap-on. We believe you ll find these next few days both challenging and rewarding. The AMC is the foremost international competitive skills event for aviation technicians and students. This year, we have 7 teams from around the world competing in 8 events. These events are a compelling representation of the skills and qualifications required in aviation maintenance today. To be successful this week, you and your teammates need to work together, communicate effectively, focus on attention to detail and think through each task carefully the same steps that you do every day on the job. The team that proves to be most successful here will take home the grand prize in aviation maintenance the William F. Bill O Brien Award for Excellence in Aircraft Maintenance. Presented by Snap-on, this coveted award signifies the highest standard of excellence in aviation maintenance. The winning team receives the honor of displaying the 5-foot tall traveling trophy in their facility for a year. Last year, United Airlines Team Cleveland won the competition and took the trophy back to Ohio. Good luck to everyone in their pursuit of the O Brien Award! The event wouldn t be possible without the support of the aviation community. In addition to the trophy, Snap-on is awarding more than $75,000 in tools and equipment as prizes to the top finishers this week. This is the sixth year that Snap-on has supported the AMC as a thriving international competition, and we are grateful for their valuable and steadfast partnership. More than 50 additional companies, educational institutions, community organizations and individual volunteers contributed time, resources, prizes, product and airline miles to this event. Special thanks to our platinum sponsors American Airlines and Pratt & Whitney. Their support in particular is very humbling and makes us very proud to be part of this family. If this is your first year participating, you ll soon realize that the AMC is so much more than a competition. You ll be side-by-side with peers from all sectors of aviation maintenance: commercial aviation, MROs and OEMs, general aviation, space, military and schools. Use your time to network and share information and helpful tips with each other. For the professional technicians, the AMC is a great venue to mentor students who are hungry for advice on how to be successful in their first job. We may wear different uniforms, but we all belong to a global community of skilled craftsmen. Sharing information is how we make our profession stronger.
