1 Post-Show Report 2012 PRESS RELEASE Dates: Oct. 10(Wed) 12(Fri), 2012 / Venue: Makuhari Messe, Japan / Organised by: Reed Exhibitions Japan Ltd, Japan Floral Marketing Association(JFMA) (for IFEX and GARDEX/EXTEPO) IFEX and its Concurrent Shows Achieved Great Success! IFEX, concurrently held with AGRITECH JAPAN, TOOL JAPAN, GARDEX/EXTEPO has ended with great success this year again. The shows expanded their size again this year and attracted a record 1,006 exhibitors and 26,846 visitors from all over the world. In almost every aspect, the shows have grown from the previous year. The number of flower/ornamental plant exhibitors surged sharply; the size of AGRITECH JAPAN a trade show for agricultural/horticultural technologies increased by 50% from the last year; and the number of international visitors went up. All of these facts point to the fact that the shows are now an indispensable trade vehicle for the industry in the fast-growing Asian market. 1

2 The success of every show IFEX concluded in great success this year again. Many Japanese flower growers have exhibited in Growers Fair, which started last year and has become larger in scale. 335 companies/growers displayed their produce to seek new sales channels at IFEX this year while 288 companies/growers participated in the fair in From overseas, many companies from major flower exporting countries exhibited such as Colombia, Ecuador, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia and France. 26,846 visitors from all over Japan and the world visited the show and active business discussions took place onsite. Horticultural and Agricultural suppliers/technologies are displayed at AGRITECH JAPAN. The show, in its second year, is 1.5 times its size of last year. As the show firmly gains recognition among the industry, AGRITECH JAPAN attracts more companies in the relevant fields to join the rank of its exhibitors. 181 leading companies from Japan, Korea, China, Italy, Netherlands, Finland and Greece displayed their latest horticultural and agricultural suppliers/technologies at the show. A huge number of buyers from Japan and all over the world, who were drawn by the growing reputation of AGRITECH JAPAN, came to visit the show this year to do business with exhibitors. Many active business discussions took place onsite and AGRITECH JAPAN has ended with great success as Asia s premier trade venue for agricultural and horticultural material and technology. TOOL JAPAN, also in its second year is 1.5 times its size of last year. 135 companies including all the leading power tool manufacturers such as Makita, Hitachi Koki, Ryobi, and Black & Decker participated. Exhibitors came not only from Japan, but also from overseas. Numerous exhibitors from India, China, Taiwan, Korea and U.K. exhibited. TOOL JAPAN is Japan s only trade show specialised for tools and attracted special attention from Japan s industry. Japan s top 3 tool retail chain stores, namely Straight, Astro Products and Factory Gear dispatched their presidents and buying groups to the show to find new products. Many home centers and DIY stores also visited the show and the show venue was packed with eager buyers. Japan s largest garden industry trade show, GARDEX/EXTEPO, was held concurrently. Home centers who almost dominate Japan s retail market of garden products rushed to the show venue to do business with exhibitors. To tap into the Japan s garden market, many overseas companies exhibited. Companies from China, Korea, Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka, Portugal, Belgium, Chile, U.S., and U.K. joined the show this year. Japan s domestic industry giants such as Sumitomo Chemical and Takasho exhibited with big stands. In total, 202 companies exhibited and the show concluded with a great success. 2

3 Many serious business talks were held at the venue. Overseas visitor number grew The show organizers special efforts to bring visitors from overseas combined with the expanded product variety at the show have continued to attract strong attendance from outside Japan. Especially this year, their nationalities have become more diverse. Exhibitors reported business dealings with buyers from nearby places such as Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, and faraway countries including Italy. The venue was filled with such global visitors and a robust atmosphere prevailed during the whole show period. Mayor, top government executives and other leading figures gathered At the opening ceremony, many leading figures related to the flower industry gathered which symbolizes the show s important position in the industry. Board Chairman of Japan Flower Promotion Center Foundation, Chairman of Japan Flower Growers Association and President of The All Japan Florists Association attended the brilliant opening ribbon-cutting ceremony. Also in attendance were leaders of the leading flower stores, CEO of Park Corporation, President of Odakyu Landflora Co. Ltd., President and CEO of Daiichi Engei Co. Ltd. and President of Suzuki Florist Co. Ltd. Top industry executives attended opening ceremony to celebrate the show 3

4 Exhibitors testimonials: I think the show management did a very good job. They have provided us with good service providing us many references and have answered our requests. We expect to have 4-5 orders through the contacts we ve had at the show. SOLEIL TOOL INDUSTRIES CORP. (Taiwan) TOOL JAPAN We have seen visitors in three days. We have achieved our goal. We are expecting USD75,000 order cost in total as a start, as a test. If we succeed in this start, we will expect more increased orders. We have a positive outlook. ACTIVE PRODUCTS (Canada) GARDEX Have seen visitors in three days, mostly private importers. Met 8-10 big companies and it is promising that we can get orders from them. Order expected is 200cases a week, that is 250stems costing USD150 per case. (USD30,000 a week). SUNRITE FARMS (Ecuador) IFEX We are very happy and satisfied that we exhibited this time. It was very successful. We got a lot of attention. Our booth was full of visitors, almost had not enough time to talk with everyone. We expect promising orders to come. DAEWOOD (Korea) AGRITECH JAPAN Next year s show dates announced The next show is scheduled for October 9-11, In view of the success of this year, and the market potential that has been uncovered, this robust event is expected to thrive even further.
