Research by accountancy group PwC for the Regional Australia Institute says the regional economy for Toowoomba and the Surat Basin could more than double by With the introduction of the international Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport, there are new business opportunities opening up for local industries. 6 TOOWOOMBA: THE FUTURE Economic Areas Toowoomba has been ranked as one of Australia s most family friendly cities with a house price to income ratio lower than most of South East Queensland. Under the Queensland Government s recently released South East Queensland Regional Plan (released 2017), Toowoomba has been slated as an area for major expansion, and has been noted down as a Regional Economic Cluster. This means over the next 20+ years, the Queensland Government is looking to Toowoomba for continued economic growth and infrastructure investment.
