NIME 2011 Flight pack Travel to Oslo from the airports Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL) Approximately 20 minutes from the city centre with the airport train (NOK170), or 45 minutes on the bus (NOK130). Be aware that taking a taxi from the airport can be very expensive (!), especially with evening/night rates, and will also take much longer than the airport train. Sandefjord airport Torp located on the west side of the city. Approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes on the bus. Moss airport Rygge located on the east side of the city. Approximately 1 hour on the bus. Travel in Oslo The city centre of Oslo is defined by the shopping street Karl Johans gate, going from the central station (Oslo sentralstasjon) to the national theatre (Nationaltheatret). Most NIME venues are located on the north-western side of the city centre (see map). It takes approximately 40 minutes to walk from the city centre to the university campus. Public transport Oslo has an extensive public transport system, with metro, busses, trams, boats, trains and city bikes. The easiest and most efficient way to get around is probably to use the metro system, since both the University and Music Academy are located next to metro stations (Blindern and Majorstuen). Planning Use Trafikanten.no to plan your travel. There are also mobile phone apps available of this service. Tickets There is no ticket sale on the public transport system, so remember to buy a ticket in advance of your travel. You can buy single tickets (NOK 30), a 24-hour pass (NOK 70), or a week pass (NOK 210). The best for NIME participants may be to buy the flexi-card (NOK 170), which can be used for 8 travels. They sell these cards at any Narvesen or 7-eleven (both of which are everywhere). Remember to stamp your ticket in the small, yellow validation machines at the metro station, or when you enter the bus/tram. They are trying to set up a new ticketing system (called Flexus), but this only works for monthly passes, so stay away from those machines. Money Payment It is possible to pay with debit cards (Cirrus, BankAxept) most places, and many shops also take credit cards (Visa/MasterCard and sometimes also Diners and American Express). ATMs There are lots of ATMs in the city centre, at metro stations and inside many 7-eleven. There is one ATM outside the main university service building, and one at the entrance of the student house Chateau Neuf. 4 Chateau Neuf The is the location for evening concerts, the symposium and some of the tutorials. This is also where registration happens on Sunday, and where the busses leave from for the opening concert (at 17:00). 5 City Hall The City of Oslo invites conference participants to a reception at the Oslo City Hall on Monday 30 May at 17:30. We will travel together on the metro from the university. The museum is located outside the city centre, so we will organise bus transport from the Norwegian Academy of Music on Sunday at 17:00.
