The average daily traffic from May 216 to April 217 was 3.2% higher than the average from May 215 to April 216. The trend shows a continuous growth in traffic ,5% 3,2% 3, 3, 3,2% 2,7% 2,8% 3, 2,6% 2, 2,2% 2,2% 2,3% 2,4% 2,5% 2,5% 2, 1,5% 1,,5%, 12 months rolling traffic trend The low-cost segment was the main driver of growth and accelerated from 5.9% in March to 7.9% in April. The charter segment which has been showing signs of recovery since the beginning of the year moved to the positive for the first time since January 214 and recorded a monthly growth rate of 5.8%. Resumption of flights between the Russian Federation and Turkey (ban on charter flights lifted in August 216) along with a significant increase in flights between Ukraine and Egypt accounted for most of the growth. The traditional and business aviation segments increased by 1.9% and 1.3% respectively. On the other hand, the all-cargo segment slumped to a 1.4% decrease in April from a increase in March. Thirteen states contributed the most to the growth of local traffic ii in Europe by adding more than 5 daily flights to the network. Benefiting from Easter school holidays, Spain took over from the United Kingdom as the top contributor and added 316 flights per day vs. 187 daily flights for UK. Belgium/Luxembourg ranked third with 165 extra daily flights although this number remained inflated due to Brussels airport closure until 3 April last year. Italy came next with 136 additional daily flights thanks to a dynamic international arrivals/departures flow which increased by 5.3% in April. Portugal (excl. Azores) completed the top five states and added 121 daily flights. France, Canary Islands, Ukraine and Romania added together 284 daily flights whereas the Netherlands, Germany, Greece and Poland completed the list and altogether added 233 flights to the network. It is worth mentioning that Turkey significantly reduced its decrease from 157 fewer daily flights in March to just 1 fewer daily flights in April thanks to its flow to/from the Russian Federation (+51 flights/day) and to/from Israel (+12 flights/day). At the other end of the scale, Norway saw 143 fewer daily flights owing to its domestic flow which declined 15% in April. The top three extra-european partners in average daily flights on flows in both directions were the United States (92 flights, up 1.2%), the Russian Federation (73 flights, up 17.5%) and the United Arab Emirates (33 flights, up.3%). European flights to/from Egypt and to/from Tunisia -slowly picking up since the end of last year- accelerated in April and surged to a growth rate of 46% and 14% respectively boosted by charter traffic during Easter. The airlines which added the most flights to the European network on a daily basis were Ryanair (+182 flights/day), Eurowings (+145 flts/day), Norwegian International (+14 flts/day), easyjet (+11 flts/day) and Wizzair (+78 flts/day). 4 Eight of the top ten airports had positive traffic growth. Overall, the largest traffic increases in April 217 were at Palma de Mallorca, Tel Aviv/Ben Gurion, Malaga, Antalya and Lisbon airports. The largest traffic decreases were at Istanbul/Sabiha Gökcen, Stuttgart, Copenhagen, Oslo and Berlin/Tegel airports. The apparent high traffic increase in Brussels airport is due to comparison to April 216 when the airport was recovering traffic after a terrorist attack on 22 March. The increase of traffic in Lisbon airport was due to the increase of flights by TAP Portugal airline. Malaga airport traffic variation was due to increase of flights from UK, Sweden and Germany. Six of the top ten aircraft operators had more traffic compared to April 216. The operators with the highest traffic growth were Flyniki, Eurowings, Norwegian Air International, Jet2com and Olympic airlines. Germanwings, Air Berlin, Aegean, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Wideroe recorded the highest traffic decrease. Norwegian Air International traffic variation comes from a change in fleet size following new aircraft deliveries, as well as aircraft moving from using NAX to the IBK callsign. The traffic variation of Olympic and Aegean is due to Aegean flights operated with Olympic callsign. Airberlin has transferred its 16 European holiday destinations to FlyNiki which will operate from Dusseldorf to destinations in Spain, the Canary Islands, Portugal and the Greek islands from the start of the summer schedule. Jet2com increase of traffic is due to the opening of two new UK bases (London Stansted and Birmingham airports) to operate to several new destinations. The traffic variation of Eurowings is due to the opening of new routes from Munich airport to 3 destinations. NM Monthly Network Operations Report - Analysis April 217 Page 4

5 The Lisbon, Santa Maria, Madrid and Canarias ACCs variation is due to increase of traffic in the South/West axis. However, the highest traffic increases in April 217 were in Yerevan, Skopje, Chisinau, Kiev, and Odessa ACCs. Traffic increase between Europe and Egypt/UAE explained the variation of Nicosia ACC. Reykjavik ACC traffic variation is due to an increase usage of northern routes between US and United Kingdom. High traffic increases for Zagreb and Ljubljana ACC are due to more flights on the NW Europe to SE Europe flow. NM Monthly Network Operations Report - Analysis April 217 Page 5

13 6. ALL AIR TRANSPORT DELAYS (SOURCE: CODA) This section presents the all air transport delay situation as seen from the airlines by using the data collected by Central Office for Delay Analysis (CODA) from airlines. Data coverage is 69% of the commercial flights in the ECAC region for March 217. ATFM delays reported by airlines may be lower than the NM calculated ATFM delays due to difference in methods: ATFM delays of NM are the (flight) planned delays ; the airlines report the actual experienced ATFM delay on departure. For instance, a flight with an ATFM delay may also have a handling delay absorbed within the ATFM delay. For the airline, a part of this delay is the ATFM delay and the remaining amount is the handling delay. Breakdown Average Delay per Flight March 217 Average Departure Delay/Flight (min) Average En-Route Delay/Flight Average En-Route Delay/Flight 5.51 Average primary delay 9.25 Passenger experience Based on airline data, the average departure delay per flight from All-Causes was 9.25 minutes per flight, this was a decrease of 12% in comparison to March 216 where the average delay was 1.52 minutes per flight. Primary delays counted for 6 (or 5.51 min/flt ), with reactionary delays representing the smaller remaining share of 4 at (3.74 min/flt).
