6 FDM360 DESCRIPTION The software used in our Flight Data Monitoring service was developed by British Airways which were the first airline to set up a flight data department some 40 years ago. Although much has changed since then, one fundamental thing has not; the data collection and event detection process must be as robust and simple as possible in order that sufficient resources can be applied to the most important task of turning the results into meaningful information. FDM360 has been refined and developed by British Airways over the years to ensure that efficient, reliable and high-quality analysis can be achieved 100% of the time. FLIGHT DATA COLLECTION Step 1: You send the data to us by whatever means is most suitable. Step2: Our experienced personnel replay and analyse your flight data in a secure environment. Step3: We provide you with secure access to the validated analysis results. Step 4: Using the flexible built-in tools, you view and analyse the results in the comfort of your own offices. 7 FLIGHT DATA ANALYSIS We believe that the methodology employed in this British Airways developed system for processing and analysing flight data is not only the best practice in the industry, but will simplify your processes and reduce the time taken to turn your flight data into meaningful information. Flight Data Traces (FDT) Our Flight Data Traces (FDT) tool has many significant features, including preloaded a/c usage charts, multi-level definitions of constants & settings, multi-event database support, system audit and configurable ops data format. Flight Data Events (FDE) Our Flight Data Events (FDE) tools allow events detected by FDT to be validated and analysed using powerful built-in drill down charts. Analysis can be performed on events by frequency, severity and by rate (e.g. per 1000 sectors etc.). Commercial in Confidence 7

8 Flight Data Simulations (FDS) Our Flight Data Simulation (FDS) tools allow flights and events to be visualised using flight data collected and stored by FDT. The simulations do not need to be refined as the data required is automatically generated with no need for human intervention. Google Earth Simulation data can also be viewed on Google Maps. Geographical analysis of Events can also be performed using Google Maps; e.g. plot of TCAS RA s by geographic location. 9 Geo-analysis can be performed using the FDM360 interface. This allows the customer to analyse those events where location could be a factor; e.g. using multitrack analysis to show rushed approaches at a particular landing runway. Re-Flight 3D 3D Simulations can be produced using the FDM360 Re-Flight 3D module. Glideslope, localiser, gates and events can be indicated on the 3D simulation view. The view angle can be controlled and zoom in/out is also available giving you full control of the simulation. Commercial in Confidence 9

10 Optional Module FDM360 Measurements (FDM) The FDM360 Measurements module produces histograms and tables for statistical analysis purposes. The information is processed by the FDT (Flight Data Traces) module which stores predefined derived parameter values measured for every processed flight; typically 70+ parameters are measured. The Flight Data Measurements module uses this stored data set to perform analysis on very large numbers of flights so that comparisons can be made across fleets, time periods and airfields. The module displays this analysis as histograms which can be printed, copied and pasted into a document with minimal effort and training. The optional Flight Data Measurements module provides the capability to display the full distribution and not just the extremes of operation (i.e. more than just current flight data events) for specified points in the flight profile (e.g. CAS 8nm from Touchdown; see picture). The module allows the user to conduct statistical analysis on these derived flight data parameters without having to manually manipulate flight data and use external spreadsheets such as an Excel to do such statistical comparisons which saves time and manpower. 11 RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI) The primary reason for choosing FDM360 is to reduce safety risk within your organisation by proactively analysing flight data to look for underlying trends and putting in place mitigating actions to address them. However, FDM360 will also produce a Return on Investment (ROI) from savings in operational efficiency costs and reducing events which result in operational disruptions such as return to stands, air turnbacks, go-arounds and delays. FDM360 can also produce extracts for EHM, APM and Fuel Management which also lead to operational efficiency gains.
