1 AUSTRALIA AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICE AIRSERVICES AUSTRALIA GPO BOX 367, CANBERRA ACT 2601 Phone: Effective: AIP SUPPLEMENT (SUP) H 181/ UTC CONTINGENCY ROUTE FLIGHT PLANNING - REQUIREMENTS 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 This SUP cancels and replaces SUP H158/17 with a change to the YBCS YBBN route on page At the request of industry a list of Routes to be planned during periods of disruption are to be made available for IFR flight planning under certain conditions so the routes may be stored in navigation databases, should they be required. 1.3 These Routes would be activated in response to disruption or to accommodate a Special Purpose or Temporary Restricted Area and would be promulgated by NOTAM. 2. PROMULGATION CONTINGENCY ROUTE FLIGHT PLANNING 2.1 On occasion, ATC may promulgate a NOTAM advising operators that flight plan routes, which differ from those contained in the ERSA ROUTE FLIGHT PLANNING REQUIREMENTS, are to be flight planned to assist in the flow of air traffic due to disruption resulting from operational restrictions. These reasons may include, but are not limited to, service interruptions, thunderstorm activity, volcanic activity and facility outages. 2.2 The decision to approve the use of these Routes rests solely with the ATC Operations Room Manager following a teleconference facilitated by the Network Coordination Centre (NCC) with Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) Members. 2.3 When a NOTAM is promulgated for contingency routes it will include the following information:

2 (SUP H181/17) Page 2 of 16 The affected area and nature of the disruption; and Routes available for flight planning 2.4 These routes must not be used unless a NOTAM has been promulgated approving their use. 2.5 Operators that intend to flight plan via these Routes as promulgated by NOTAM shall contact the NCC Duty Line Manager by phone on: or TEMPORARY RESTRICTED AREA CONTINGENCY ROUTE FLIGHT PLANNING 3.1 Temporary Restricted Areas (TRA) may be activated in the Melbourne (YMMM) or Brisbane (YBBB) Flight Information Region. This may occur due to ATS in certain airspace volumes being subject to operational restrictions. 3.2 When a NOTAM is promulgated for a TRA it will include the following information: The affected airspace volume/s and class of airspace; Type of ATS provided within the TRA during the contingency period; Requirements for entry into the airspace; Effective times; Reference to Traffic Information Broadcast by Aircraft (TIBA); Vertical limits; and A web link outlining the geographic location of the airspace volume/s 3.3 Operators considering operating within the TRA shall contact the relevant Duty ATC Operations Room Manager via the details published in the NOTAM. 4. CONTINGENCY ROUTES 4.1 The following list of routes are ONLY permitted for use under instruction by ATC and will be activated by NOTAM 4.2 These routes have been grouped by the affected air traffic control sector. A pictorial representation of each airspace sector can be found at:
