This study is a joint study with the Environmental Protection Agency, American Association of Airport Executives, ISU Department of Aerospace Technology and Department of Health and Environmental Safety. The program is managed through Compliance Assistance Centers maintained by the Department of Aerospace Technology. Each Center addresses real world issues in language that speaks to the regulated entities. Through Internet Web sites, telephone assistance lines, fax-back systems, and discussion groups, the Centers are helping businesses, local governments, and federal facilities understand federal environmental requirements and save money through pollution prevention techniques. This $600,000 grant five-year program runs from ISU receives a minimum of $32,000 each year during the grant award period and is used the offset 8

9 the employment of four researchers, including two faculty researchers; one Ph.D. fellow and one undergraduate. Maintain primary and training module Website: Principle Academic Investigator: Development of a Cooperative Agreement Between Indiana State University and International University of Applied Sciences. This project is the development of a cooperative agreement for a student and visiting faculty exchange program. The agreement will provide an institutional linkage between Indiana State University (ISU) and International University of Applied Sciences (IUAS). The two academic departments involved are the ISU Department of Aerospace Technology and the IUAS Aviation Management program. The IUAS is located at Bad Honnef (Bonn), Germany. Specifically, this proposal intends develop procedures so that each institution s aviation management program can seamlessly interleave and result in similar curriculum standards at both institutions. With the approval of a proposed agreement, exchange students from both institutions could attend classes and progress with their studies in aviation management as if they were in residence at their home campuses. The visiting faculty length of stay could vary from as little as a single week to a full academic year. This arrangement could allow opportunities for faculty members to participate in a weeklong seminar to a full year sabbatical. Current research grants applied for: Principle Academic Investigator: Indiana State University Aerospace Environmental Certification Management Program. This study is a joint study with the American Association of Airport Executives, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the ISU Department of Aerospace Technology to develop an industry certification program that would be managed by the American Association of Airport Executives ($49,000). Completed Research Studies: Principle Investigator: Evaluation of the Aerospace Administration Program at Indiana State University. The purpose of this evaluation study was to evaluate the aerospace administration program in comparison with accepted criteria, parallel programs at other universities, and industry standards that reflect best practices in higher education. From this analysis, a series of informed recommendations was developed for the improvement of the aerospace program at ISU to help stem the steady decline in enrollment ( ). This unfunded study was used to fulfill the requirement for an applied dissertation study. Study was submitted for publication and is under review with the Journal of Air Transportation. Principle Investigator: Comparison of Student Success in Different Technology-Based Classrooms. A 9

10 quasi-experimental study to compare scores of students using advanced technology course delivery methods with the scores of the students using the older course delivery methods as measured by overall class final scores. This unfunded study was used to convince faculty that students tended to do better using the advanced technology with the opening of a new technology classroom building and This study is used to fulfill the requirement for an applied dissertation study ( ). This study was published in the Collegiate Aviation Review. Principle Investigator: Evaluation of Student Satisfaction with Flight Training Schools. A evaluation study to evaluate the quality of service provided by the university s two contracted flight schools, as determined by a voluntary student survey. Results indicated students were dissatisfied in their own progress, the schools management was not open to improvement, and students experienced excessive delays or denial of flight training. This unfunded study is used to fulfill the requirement for an applied dissertation study ( ). Study was submitted for publication and is pending review with the International Journal of Applied Aviation Studies. Principle Investigator: Development of a Certified Aircraft Dispatcher Workshop for Indiana State University Department of Aerospace. The purpose of this development study was to conceptually develop a workshop that would expand student employment opportunities. This unfunded study was used to form future departmental plans and fulfill the requirement for an applied dissertation study. (2000). Principle Investigator: Development of an Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate Program for Purdue University Statewide Locations. A unfunded development study that resulted in university gaining federal approval under Federal Aviation Regulation Part 65 to conduct operations as an air agency providing certification training for aircraft dispatchers ( ).
