For full details including a chart highlighting the changes and new baggage charges please visit batraveltrade.com/ baggage US Airways plans to offer in-flight Internet Service will include Web browsing, instant messaging, , and more US Airways says it will provide in-flight Internet service beginning early next year in a deal with provider Aircell. The service announced Thursday, July 23, 2009, will include Web browsing, instant messaging, and VPN access for purchase by passengers with laptops or other Wi-Fi devices. Prices will range from $5.95 to $12.95, depending on the length of the flight and the type of device used by the passenger. Aircell s Gogo service will be installed first on US Airways Airbus A321 aircraft on some domestic routes. US Airways plans eventually to let passengers check whether access will be available on their flight by looking for a Wi-Fi icon when booking on the airline s Web site. Several other airlines, including Delta and American, have already begun equipping some planes with Internet access using Aircell s Gogo. Southwest is testing a system from a rival supplier.
3 Changes in Washington, DC and New York 12, 2009 US Airways announced plans to add new destinations and flights to Washington, DC s Reagan National Airport. They are adding 42 new roundtrip flights a day including 15 new destinations. 15 new ways to get to DC: They also announced plans to reduce US Airways Express flights to New York s LaGuardia Airport. But you can still count on them for dependable hourly service from LaGuardia to Boston and Washington, DC on the US Airways Shuttle. In addition, we ll continue to provide service to LaGuardia from Charlotte and Wilmington, NC and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PA. TravelFocus keep you posted on timing and developments. These changes are pending government approval, which may take several months. Southwest Airlines starts service from Boston s Logan Airport Southwest Airlines Co. launched service August 17, 2009 from Boston s Logan International Airport, even as it shrinks its overall flying for the first time ever. The aircraft for the 10 daily flights five each to Chicago s Midway Airport and Baltimore/Washington International were taken from weaker routes on Southwest s flying schedule of 3,300 daily departures. 4 Airports Delays: The Good, Bad and Ugly Before you book your next flight, check out the best and worst list of airport delays. Amy Farley, senior editor of Travel + Leisure magazine, shared the results of the America s Best and Worst Airports 2009 listing on The Early Show Tuesday, August 4, Farley said unlike year after year of watching delays go up, delays have actually gone down this year. We have the economy to thank because there are less flights and less congestion, which means the flights are coming in on time, she said. The listing, Farley explained, is conducted through statistics distributed by the Bureau of Transportation. She said the magazine compared the percentage of flights that departed more than 15 minutes late from airports around the U.S.: Worst Airports for Delays Newark (EWR) 2. Chicago (ORD) 3. Miami (MIA) 4. Dallas Ft. Worth (DFW) 5. New York (LGA) 6. New York (JFK) 7. San Francisco (SFO) 8. Washington, D.C. (IAD) 9. Atlanta (ATL) 10. Philadelphia (PHL) Best Airports for Delays Salt Lake City (SLC) 2. Portland (PDX) 3. Washington, D.C. (DCA) 4. Minneapolis St Paul (MSP) 5. Los Angeles (LAX) 6. San Diego (SAN) 7. Tampa (TPA) 8. Detroit (DTW) 9. Phoenix (PHX) 10. Orlando (MCO) Farley said travelers should plan their trips according to the lists for a better chance of an on-time flight. She added passengers should also look at the hour they re traveling. She said the peak times flights are delayed are after 8 p.m. If you re flying earlier in the day, you have a better chance of getting out on time. The earlier the better, she said. I always take the first flight out in the morning. Farley added airlines have statistics that have the on-time performance of individual flights. You can call the airline when you re making your booking, she said, and find out how your particular flight performs. However, traffic and weather, Farley said, are big factors in what airport gets on the worst list each year. She used New York as an example: We have a lot of flights coming in and there s limited air space. So there s a lot of traffic they have to deal with. A lot of it also is just weather. The summer storms roll in the afternoon that can really tie up an airport. And then in the winter there s, of course, those blizzards that can tie up things for days on end.
