6 The Role of Airport IT 1. The enabler of airport business processes Airport operations Business management Internet / self service - revenue generating services 2. Airports new role as the integrator of IT services Provide the IT infrastructure, business partners then enjoy plug and play inter-operability Traditionally airports have played landlord role, airlines have provided their own systems (e.g., CUTE Clubs) Airline investment in IT is declining Airports need to take the lead, IT is so strategically important 3. IT potentially offers the industry solutions To improve airport efficiency To improve the management of real time airport operations

To promote the airport-wide IT Strategy Participating in the Simplifying Passenger Travel (SPT) initiative Promoting the implementation of the Ideal Process Flow Supporting the IATA Simplifying the Business (StB) initiative StB projects include: CUSS, E-Ticketing, FAST Travel, Bar-Coded Boarding Pass (BCBP), Baggage Management Improvement Project (formerly RFID) and e-freight. Next milestone: Airports to be enabled for the BCBP in 2010

12 ACI World Airport IT Standing Committee Background: - Origin: Airport Passenger Service Automation Task Force (1992) - Sub-committee structure, reporting to the ACI World Facilitation Committee - Mission: to develop industry policy guidelines and positions on issues affecting: Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Airport Automation, Telecommunications infrastructure, Passenger and cargo services at airports, in order to support operational and business processes in and around airports

13 ACI World Airport IT Standing Committee Present: Information Technology is the ENABLER of virtually all airport business processes. Airport IT has become a very specialized discipline: it is not logical to ask the Facilitation Committee to provide strategic direction and oversight. Coordination and sharing of information on Airport IT with all ACI regions Better recognition and interaction with representatives from other industry stakeholders and international Aviation IT working groups. The ACI World Governing Board Boston, September 2008, unanimously approved a proposal to formalize the existing subcommittee as a World Standing Committee.
