What is RUAS trying to achieve in UAS? Create a UAS School built on world class facilities and equipment, quality processes and best practice Deliver a common foundation training platform that meets military standards and civil requirements where they exist Provide qualified and skilled personnel into the expanding UAS industry Provide solutions to some of the UAS issues posed 1 year ago at this conference Reducing duplication from unconnected training doctrine and therefore reduce procurement waste Providing a more consistent input standard to OEM Type Providing a third party capability providing consistent training to support Whole Force Concept 23/09/
Founding Principles for RUAS System Design training system to provide foundation skills for UAS Crews Minimise Disruption for Clients Design to meet Military and Civil Standards Re-use material from other schools where possible Use state of the art technology / equipment Recruit experienced UAS/ISTAR instructors 23/09/
Military Input to RUAS design (DSAT) Structure for designing new training material Compatible with Military Requirements Former military instructors Experienced in delivering UAS fundamentals training Operational experience in UAS operation Flight safety standards Years of experience in developing drills Mature Flight Safety Culture and Processes 23/09/
Design 23/09/
RUAS System Structure With very little regulatory guidance available, Structured Design has been the main focus of development for Resource UAS Selection Testing Web Based Ground School Simulator (if required) Live (Class Specific) Continuation & Currency 23/09/
Design The DSAT Cycle Needs Analysis Evaluation of Effectiveness Design and Development Delivery 23/09/
The RUAS Course Plan One document defining all aspects of each course developed using DSAT process Pre-course Requirements Syllabus Assessment Strategy Objectives Instructional Specifications Provides equivalency ISO 9001 Approval 23/09/
Staffing 23/09/
RUAS Instructional Staff Instructors - Key to success in any technical training school UAS Experience Natural Instructional Ability Operational Experience Ready for a new career 23/09/
RUAS Support Staff Instructional Assistants key to supporting instructors Simulator Role Player Simulator Scenario Design Assisting with Flying Ideal candidates Reservists 23/09/
Flight Safety and Airworthiness 23/09/
Flight Safety Standards Flying Order Book Document defining all procedures and principals for safe planning and conduct of flying training Safety Duties and Responsibilities Flying Practice Procedures 23/09/
Airworthiness Systems Maintenance Documentation Part Number Tracking Vehicle and Equipment Usage Logs Release to Service Documentation Service Bulletins and Tech Logs 23/09/
CONCLUSIONS With a long heritage of UAS Operations, the UK military and the standards around it, provides a good template for creating training infrastructure. With the extensive drawdown of staff from the military post SDSR, excellent staff are available to apply their experience to a new career in UAS While in other areas of aviation, the military is adopting civil standards. For UAS, maybe the civil regulator should look to military processes for a mature and proven model. 23/09/
