4 DCT Doc 8400, ICAO Abbreviations and Codes (PANS-ABC) DCT / Direct (in relation to flight plan clearances and type of approach) Doc 4444 ATM/501, Air Traffic Management (PANS-OPS) For Flights along designated ATS routes, in ITEM 15 when submitting flight plan users shall: INSERT, if the departure aerodrome is not on or connected to the ATS route, the letters DCT followed by the point of joining the first ATS route, followed by the designator of the ATS route; INSERT DCT, if the flight to the next point will be outside a designated route, unless both points are defined by geographical coordinates. Doc 4444 ATM/501, Air Traffic Management (PANS-OPS) For Flights outside designated ATS routes, in ITEM 15 when submitting flight plan users shall: INSERT points normally not more than 30 minutes flying time or 370 km (200 NM) apart, including each point at which a change of speed or level, a change of track, or a change of flight rules is planned; INSERT DCT between successive points unless both points are defined by geographical coordinates or by bearing and distance. 6 Cross-Border FRA - Definition Proposal A specified Free Route Airspace where common procedures are applied regardless of national and/or operational boundaries. Such Free Route Airspace comprises part and/or the whole areas of responsibility of at least two adjacent ATS units (e.g. ACCs, UACs, etc.) not belonging to the same State. Any published NAVAID/Significant Point on the common boundary can be considered as a FRA Intermediate Point; when and if required and is not mandatory for flight planning purposes. 6
