Press Kit Merignac, 11 January REPORT Annual growth of 7.7% and a record 6,000,000 passengers in 2017 In December, Bordeaux Airport reached the symbolic milestone of 6 million passengers. In a highly competitive environment, the airport handled an extra half million passengers after 8 years of constant growth (+87% between 2009 and 2017). At the year end, traffic was up by 7.7%, largely thanks to international flights which carried a total of 3 million passengers. If we remove from the equation the Bordeaux-Paris links (Orly and CDG) which faced new competition from the SNCF and its LGV high speed rail link, growth for Bordeaux Airport reached 12% (558,000 new passengers), making 2017 its best performance since the Airport Management Company was created. The network of flights is increasingly international, with the opening of 17 new routes and the arrival of 5 new airlines (Blue Air, Lufthansa, Air Corsica, Aigle Azur and Wizz Air). At the height of the season, the airport offered 87 scheduled links and a total of 104 routes operated by 31 airlines. It should be noted that air traffic control had to deal with only a 1.9% rise in aircraft movements, contrasting strongly with the increase in passenger traffic, thanks to the airlines use of higher capacity planes saw the announcement of the new easyjet base, planned for spring 2018, which will provide numerous possibilities for the airline s development was also the year in which major projects were confirmed for future airport infrastructure development to keep up with the increase in passenger traffic: creation of an international boarding pier in Hall A, expansion and improvement of the Billi terminal, construction of a junction hall and refurbishment of access roads and car parks to make way for the tram and facilitate access to the airport. FAST-GROWING, INCREASINGLY INTERNATIONAL TRAFFIC 6.2 million passengers travelled via Bordeaux Airport in 2017 with 31 airline companies. Growth in total traffic came to 7.7% compared with the previous year. Disregarding the figures for Paris flights, in light of exceptionally strong competition at the end of the year, growth would have been 12%, the best performance in 10 years. International travel continues to dominate with growth of 17% and 3,102,000 passengers.
- 2 - PASSENGER TRAFFIC IN 2017 No. of passengers 2016/2017 variation Domestic 3,010, % International 3,101,176 17% Total 6,203, % Low-cost 3,067, % PASSENGER TRAFFIC INCREASE FROM 2009 TO 2017 ROUTE NETWORK IN CONSTANT PROGRESSION At the height of the season, 200 rotations were operated per day on 87 direct routes by 31 scheduled airlines. In addition, charter flights were operated on 20 routes. 17 new routes were launched, 11 to new destinations and 6 in competition with existing ones. These new flights represent 35% of annual growth in 2017, or 154,000 passengers. Ajaccio (Air Corsica) Algiers (Aigle Azur) Bastia (HOP!) Bordeaux Airport also welcomed 5 new airline companies in 2017: - 2 -
Lufthansa - Air Corsica - Blue Air - Aigle Azur - Wizz Air INTERNATIONAL DOMINATION Reinforcement of the international network with more rotations or stronger airline presence on existing routes, as well as the opening of new routes, are strong contributing factors to Bordeaux Airport s sustained growth. Growth in international traffic was 17% with 3,102,000 passengers carried, more than half of all traffic in the year. In Europe, passenger traffic progressed by 16.5% thanks to new destinations (Bergamo, Bucharest, Budapest, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Hamburg), increased rotations on certain routes (Barcelona, Lisbon, London Stansted and Southampton) and the arrival of new operators on existing routes (Ajaccio, Bastia and Madrid). The British Isles (693,000 passengers) and the Iberian Peninsula (666,200 passengers) share the honour of attracting the most travellers with a total of 202,000 additional passengers. In annual growth terms, Spain (429,000 passengers) came out top in 2017 with +26% and 3 of its cities finishing in 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd places. - Madrid (Volotea, Iberia and Iberia Express): +51% - Tenerife (Volotea): +40.9% - Barcelona (easyjet and Vueling): +36.5% Top three growth rates in 2017 Italy (331,600 passengers) also did very well with +13.7% and deserves a special mention for Naples (Volotea) which leapt 66.4% and gained 5,000 passengers. Germany, with 3 new destinations in 2017 (Frankfurt, Hamburg and Düsseldorf), made strong progress in the Bordeaux network, carrying 90,000 passengers in the year. Bordeaux now boasts links to no fewer than 5 German airports
Greece has 4 destinations (Athens, Corfu, Heraklion and Santorini) that are very popular with tourists. Traffic growth there was 19%, representing around 10,000 extra passengers London is the biggest international destination in terms of traffic, with 458,500 passengers enjoying a large number of flights each day between Bordeaux and three London airports, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted. With access to 12 major intercontinental hubs, Bordeaux Airport is a gateway to the rest of the world. Around 2,033,000 passengers travelled via these hubs in 2017, representing a third of total traffic. These airports registered substantial growth, for example, 51% for Madrid, 24% for Lisbon and 19.6% for Brussels. It is worth highlighting that the residents of Nouvelle Aquitaine now have easy access to Lufthansa s major Frankfurt hub and its connections to numerous international destinations. The Air Transat long-haul route to Montreal did extremely well with 16.3% growth in DOMESTIC TRAFFIC HOLDS ITS OWN At national level, the market remained stable compared with 2016 with 0.6% growth and over 3,000,000 passengers. South-east France registered particularly strong growth for Marseille (+17.2%), Toulon (+33%), Nice (+19.3%), Montpellier (+13.8%) and Lyon (+4.4%). Corsica confirmed its position as favourite with growth of 22% and 138,000 passengers. Ajaccio took first place in terms of national traffic growth with 35%. This result was underpinned by the arrival in 2017 of the Air Corsica regional airline, completing the existing range of flights operated by Hop! Air France and Volotea. Paris routes (Orly + Charles-de-Gaulle) dropped by 7%, with 1,519,000 fewer passengers carried in Growth in domestic traffic is of course tempered by strong competition on the Paris-Orly route. In the first months, however, the transfer of passengers from air to rail had less impact than expected, in comparison with SNCF targets. Thanks to proactive Air France policies, the La Navette shuttle has stood up to the LGV launch and confirmed it is firmly established in Bordeaux by maintaining 10 daily rotations at the end of 2017 and for summer Flights to Paris Charlesde-Gaulle, the group s main intercontinental hub, were not affected and their growth continued throughout the year
RECORD GROWTH FOR LOW-COST FLIGHTS Low-cost traffic represents around 50% of total traffic with 20% growth in 2017 and 502,500 extra passengers. Low-cost air traffic has increased by 84% since % The easyjet low-cost airline ended the year on 11.5% growth, representing 1,767,000 passengers and 28% of all traffic. In the light of these excellent results, at the end of the year, easyjet announced the creation of its new Bordeaux base, which will open in spring This strong local presence will speed up the airline s development by facilitating the launch of new routes and adjusting operating hours to passenger needs, notably with an earlier Bordeaux-London Gatwick flight making it possible to do the return trip in one day. Volotea confirmed its presence on Bordeaux s runways with the opening of three new routes and one of the year s best growth performances with +26% and 481,000 passengers. The Spanish airline carried 126,200 more passengers than in the previous year. Other low-cost airlines are also developing well in Bordeaux: - Flybe: +42.6% - Ryanair: +25.8% - Aer Lingus: +16.5% Finally, Wizz Air, the biggest low-cost airline company in Central and Eastern Europe, arrived in Bordeaux with the launch of its Budapest route in September. The airline pursues its development in Bordeaux with the launch next spring of a flight to Warsaw, Poland
- 6 - FOCUS ON THE BILLI TERMINAL The Billi terminal made constant progress with growth of 15.6% and 2,197,000 passengers passing through the simplified-services terminal. The Billi terminal took a 35% market share of all Bordeaux Airport traffic and accounted for 66% of total growth in SPECIAL FLIGHTS The airport offers a wide range of charter flights to explore new destinations not served by scheduled flights. In 2017, Nouvelle Aquitaine residents could benefit from special one-off flights to Guadeloupe or the fjords of Norway with Costa Cruises, and Cape Verde with Héliades. During the Six Nations rugby tournament, specialised tour operators like Midi Olympique, Couleur Rugby or Hémisphère Voyages chartered special flights to Dublin and Rome. FREIGHT: A COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITY Total freight traffic was stable at -0.2% compared with Bordeaux Airport remains a vital hub for the region s importers and exporters. AIRCRAFT MOVEMENT Aircraft movements increased slightly in 2017 (+1.9%), a proportionately small increase compared with the 7.7% growth in passenger traffic. This limited increase in aircraft movement is explained by the higher-capacity planes used by low-cost airlines, like Wizz Air s A321, easyjet s A320 or Volotea s A RECORDS Daily: 26,640 passengers on 30 June, 1,893 more than the previous record of 17 June 2016 Weekly: The busiest week was 26 June to 2 July, with 153,686 passengers. Monthly: July was the busiest month with 667,094 passengers, 61,115 more than July

Nearly 2 million internet users connected to the site to obtain information about destinations, flights, schedules and airport services. Roughly 45% of website visits were made via mobile phones, a significant 23% increase compared with Showcasing the entire range of direct destinations available, bordeaux.aeroport.fr records substantially increased fare-search activity from year to year (up 16% on 2016)
- 8 - POPULAR ONLINE RESERVATIONS Advertising policies implemented in 2016 for online parking reservations paid off this year, producing exceptional results. Sales developed exponentially with growth of 130% in The online reservation site increased its activity by 57%. Exclusive offers available only on parking.bordeaux.aeroport.fr (-15% for a week in P4, 28 per weekend in P0, P1 and P2) and promotion codes available during school holidays provide passengers with the possibility to benefit all year round from guaranteed parking spaces at good prices. GOOD ONLINE GETAWAY DEALS In February 2017, Envol, the airport s travel magazine, appeared in a new format and offered new content. The magazine truly incites travel to direct-flight destinations and is now available in an online version at ( as well as by subscription for delivery by post every 3 months direct to letterboxes. APPEALING DIGITAL PLATFORM In 2017, 50,000 internet users tried to win flights and holidays from Bordeaux on the airport s website and Facebook page. Special operations are organised regularly, sometimes in cooperation with airlines or tour operators, giving everyone a chance to win a free trip from Bordeaux Airport. One winner from Bordeaux will soon enjoy a free flight to Amsterdam after becoming Bordeaux Airport s 6 millionth passenger in 2017! AN AIRPORT PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE In response to the increase in traffic, particularly low-cost and international, but also the arrival of new airline companies and the strong development of those already present, a new 6-year plan was approved to invest the sum of 130 million, 2.5 times more than the average investment for the last 5 years. The plan aims to improve infrastructure, both at the airport itself (aircraft parking, new international boarding pier in Hall A and Billi terminal extension) and in its surrounding area (refurbishment of P2/P1 and car hire company car parks, extension of P4 car park, and construction of an A-B junction hall). The airport s transformation will begin in 2018, starting with the car parks. It is split into 4 phases. IMPROVEMENTS OUTSIDE THE AIRPORT Renovation of car parks and access roads - 8 -
2018 Firstly, renovation work on P2, P1 and car rental car parks started at the beginning of this year. The purpose is to increase traffic flow by improving the infrastructure with new car park entrances, dynamic space-finding visual systems, covered pedestrian areas and renovated pavements. Secondly, work will be undertaken in the course of the year to increase capacity in the P4 longterm car park. This will create more than 700 extra spaces. Finally, traffic flow will be improved on the airport entry and exit roads with the creation of a drop-off area and general restructuring to accommodate the tram Launch of the 45ème Parallèle development programme Phase 1, end 2019 The service hub project, 45ème Parallèle, at the entrance to the airport zone was taken over in 2017 by the company Nexity. As a reminder, the project aims to develop a prestigious hotel and conference centre with offices and related facilities (inter-company restaurant and car park). Work is expected to start at the end of winter CONSTRUCTION OF AN INTERNATIONAL PIER IN HALL A 2020 In light of the international network s constant growth, Bordeaux Airport will create new departure halls to accommodate passengers passing through border checks in Hall A. The total surface area will be approximately 2,000 m², about half the size of the existing Iberian boarding pier. This international pier will serve new aircraft parking zones, and also increase runway capacity. New international pier - 9 -
DEVELOPMENT OF THE SIMPLIFIED-SERVICES Billi TERMINAL Billi terminal traffic is expected to grow by 50% by With the creation of the easyjet base in 2018 and the undoubted development of other low-cost airlines, the terminal needs to adapt in order to optimise passage through the airport to the benefit of both airlines and passengers. Summer 2018 The refurbishment and extension of security checkpoints will begin this year in the aim of reducing passenger-handling time by 50%. Summer 2019 In 2019, a second work phase will begin to install autonomous luggage-handling posts. This automated system will again speed up the terminal s productivity and improve passenger flow. Summer 2021 The whole building will be improved and expanded to allow simultaneous handling of 9 planes (+3 compared to 2017), each carrying up to 180 passengers, in the aim of promising airline companies a maximum turnaround time of 30 minutes between a plane s arrival and departure. To this end, the Billi terminal will be extended further with the creation of new departure lounges and new aircraft parking zones. JUNCTION BUILDING BETWEEN HALLS A AND B Early 2023 As a reminder, the junction building between Halls A and B was approved in Its purpose is to improve the passenger experience, with a single security checkpoint area and new trade outlets in a dedicated area. Its implementation has naturally been postponed to ensure proper coordination of the other major interim works. The junction hall is now expected to be put into service at the beginning of AIRPORT ACCESSIBILITY The airport zone is the biggest business area in Nouvelle Aquitaine and its roads are heavily congested. With the increase in air traffic and the prospect of 50,000 jobs to be created by 2030 thanks to the Bordeaux Aéroparc OIM (Operation of Metropolitan Interest), Bordeaux Métropole has committed to a multimodal action plan. Access to the airport zone will be made easier with improved public transport services and a new road layout to minimise congestion
Arrival of Tram 2021 The tram line A extension will come into service in The road system in front of the airport building will be reorganised to allow the tram to stop just outside the terminals Arrival of the BRT Shuttle (Bus Rapid Transit) 2019 The Technobus bus rapid transit service will run between Pessac Bersol and Le Haillan, serving the airport from This shuttle service will improve accessibility to train links via Pessac-Alouette station and will make it easier for residents of South Gironde and the Arcachon Bay area to reach the airport. Kennedy-Cassin Double Roundabout 2020 During the morning rush hour, 4,100 vehicles travel through the two roundabouts linking Avenue John-Fitzgerald-Kennedy and Avenue René Cassin. Bordeaux Métropole is to build: - Two new roads, one which will link Avenue Cassin directly with Avenue Kennedy and divert a significant part of traffic away from the roundabouts, and another between Avenue Cassin and the Pelus sector. - A new roundabout on Avenue Becquerel to provide access to the business park from both directions on Avenue Becquerel. A GLOBAL OUTLOOK IN DAILY ROTATIONS CONFIRMED FOR THE PARIS-ORLY LA NAVETTE SERVICE Since the situation became highly competitive in July 2017, Air France has adjusted its fares and product positioning for the Paris-Orly Navette which is a unique service in France. The group confirms it will operate 10 rotations per day in The Paris route has stood up to competition thanks to a high-quality service offering dedicated lounges, Flying Blue customer loyalty schemes, frequent-traveller privileges and a comfortable flying experience

With 3 Airbus A320s to be positioned here permanently and 110 direct jobs created locally, easyjet will offer 2.2 million seats in 2018, representing an increase of 21%. The creation of this base will also allow easyjet to launch 7 new routes, including 4 first-time destinations from Bordeaux: Bastia, Catania, Heraklion, Luxembourg, Tel Aviv, London Southend and Faro. So easyjet reasserts itself as leader, flying to 29 destinations from Bordeaux Airport. Since arriving on our runways in 2006, easyjet has constantly boosted the growth and development of the low-cost network. The base will officially open at the airport in March. LUFTHANSA GROUP BOOSTS ITS PRESENCE Following launch of the new Bordeaux-Frankfurt route last spring, and in response to strong demand, Lufthansa Group is pursuing its development strategy in Bordeaux. In summer 2018, the group will increase its activity with 17 new rotations to be operated by Lufthansa and a new airline to Bordeaux, SWISS: Bordeaux-Frankfurt (5 rotations per week) and Bordeaux-Zurich (12 rotations per week). With these new links to two major European hubs, the inhabitants of Nouvelle Aquitaine can benefit from hundreds of additional flight connections. EASIER ACCESS TO THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT From May 2018, Aer Lingus will propose direct connections from Bordeaux, via Dublin, to the United States, with flights to 11 North American destinations: New York, Chicago, Toronto, Hartford, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami. As a bonus, the airline will propose American immigration formalities for passengers in transit at Dublin, for a smoother arrival in the United States. This is a significant advantage as it will save an average of
hours on the overall journey. Canadian scheduled airline, Air Transat, reinforces its Bordeaux-Montreal link this summer, with 3 direct flights every week instead of 2 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). This extra flight will provide greater flexibility in travel dates as well as a greater choice of connections, with onward flights to the cities of Quebec, Toronto and Vancouver. Furthermore, the airline will encourage multi-destination flights, helping passengers to explore this huge country by flying them into one Canadian airport and returning them to Bordeaux from another, at no extra cost.
