5 Live Animals and Perishables Board Structure Provides advice to the LAPB on animal care and regulatory oversight Provides expertise and answers to questions regarding animal care The LAPB has two meetings a year where all proposals are discussed in consultation with the industry. 8 Ensuring Compliance - LAR43 rd / 2017 Updates The Container Requirements (CR) for Birds were simplified and reduced in the LAR Review of the General Container Requirements for non-human primates (monkeys) and selected arboreal species including koalas (CR 31 34) Review of CR32 for rhesus or other monkeys for laboratory use Amendments to: CR44 related to snakes CR51 related to jellyfish CR71 related to Rhinoceros species CR81 related to rabbits to include the use of rigid plastic pet containers. 14 Reporting to Improve the LAR Objective: Develop a tool to enable reporting any potential discrepancies with the container requirements The tool would allow to: select information like date, time, nature of the reporting, species involved, type of container, origin & destination countries, etc. attach potential image of the problem encountered with the container gather industry data to make recommendation to the Regulations Temporary Incident Report Task Force to look into the establishment of an anonymous incident reporting tool IATA Cargo 14 International Air Transport Association 2017

17 Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) IWT estimated to be worth $19 billion per year Transnational criminal gangs are exploiting the increasingly interconnected air transport system to trade wildlife illegally Evidence indicates airlines are unknowingly being used by traffickers to transport these illegal products (alive and dead) Responsibility remains with enforcement agencies but airlines can act as additional source of intelligence 17

18 Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Liaise with International Organizations and Associations as well as strong cooperation with CITES The objective is to raise awareness of the issue amongst relevant members, airline staff and customers Establishment of a Temporary Wildlife Task Force Provide recommendation to the LAPB on how to address awareness of Illegal Wildlife Trade in the LAR 18
