2 CEE Course Information CEE This course is oriented to those engineering students who would like to understand how airports are designed, planned and operated The information provided in this course falls into three categories: Aircraft vehicle performance and airport interaction Planning aspects of the airport system, Analysis methods in airport engineering Web Site : ce_4674.html 2
3 CEE 4674: Course Objectives Analyze the effect of atmospheric variables on aircraft airport operations (runway length analysis) Estimate the capacity of any airport configuration and understand the influence of weather, aircraft mix, and other operational parameters in capacity Estimate the airport capacity Analyze the noise impacts of aircraft in the vicinity of airports using computer models (INM 7.0) Estimate the geometric design characteristics of an airport including taxiways, aprons and runways Bonus: 5 new technical words about airports in Spanish every day! Estimate siting criteria for new airports including airport terminals Be able to construct a master plan for an airport facility Use computer simulation software packages used in industry in the planning and design of airports (i.e., INM 7.0, AD42, ACM, etc.). 3
4 CEE 4674: Course Notes and Materials Relevant Federal Aviation Administration Advisory Circulars and ICAO Aerodrome Design Manuals All available at my web site Web Site : /courses/ cee4674/ce_4674.html 4
5 Software Needs for the Class Several of the assignments in this class will require the following software: Autocad (for geometric design and visualization) Matlab (for airport level of service calculations) Excel Solver (for demand estimation) JMP - statistical software If you do not have the software in your computer please make sure you install it before you leave 5
