10 General Aviation Growth The general aviation aircraft fleet will grow by 2030: 50,000 airplanes (from 229,149 aircraft to 278,723) 22% growth Jets will grow at 4.2 % per year Fixed-wing turbine aircraft will grow by 3.1 % per year rotorcraft will grow by 2.8 % per year fixed-wing piston aircraft will grow at 0.1% per year light- sport aircraft is expected to rise by more than 800 a year through 2013, then level to nearly 335 per year General aviation hours flown increase from 23.3 million to 38.9 million (a 66% increase in demand) Business usage of general aviation aircraft will expand at a faster pace than that for personal/recreation use, FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt said; This forecast makes a very strong business case for NextGen, Without NextGen, we won t be able to handle the increased demand for service that this forecast anticipates. 30 Enhanced Airport Capabilities (VIII) Evaluate future technologies: Automated Virtual Tower (AVT) For non-towered, single-runway airports and possibly very low density multiple runway airports Provides sequencing services and basic airport information without the use of personnel at an enhanced level Enhances separation and simultaneous operations in IMC; increases reliable access, efficient Air Taxi operations, avoidance of major airports; and increases transportation services to rural communities 30

33 Passenger Friendly Facilities Enhancing airports capabilities, although vital, is only part of the Model NextGen Airport. Positive experiences getting to/from the airport and while at the airport will bring the customer back The following airport enhancements will facilitate a positive customer experience: Covered passenger terminal facilities that are well lit, air conditioned, and comfortable Passenger amenities (i.e., outlets, Internet, cell phone coverage, etc.) Ground transportation to/from the airport should be convenient DOAV and the localities will be responsible for creating Passenger Friendly Facilities. 33

34 Community Outreach Program Rebranding is required for many smaller airports The Community Outreach Program must be developed and implemented to get the word out on NextGen benefits and availability of Air Taxi, Charter, and Business Aviation services. Efforts may include: Dedicated Internet site portal Internet advertising Billboards Etc. The Community Outreach Program should tie in, where possible, with existing FAA outreach programs Effective communication is a key success factor in moving NextGen forward. 34
