But this was one of the many firsts we encountered in the early days of our fledgling charter business. We very quickly realised that being ready when our clients need us is fundamental to success. After starting life as an advanced flying school for ex-servicemen, Air Partner was born when we hired some aircraft for training. In the downtime, we hired the planes out for charter. Soon the chartering grew to be bigger than the training and our business took off. In the 50 years since, we ve always been willing to push the boundaries of what s possible to improve our service to you, be that chartering for groups, cargo or individuals. We were the first to set up 24 hour operations. The first to offer clients bespoke catering and customised aircraft. 7 TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES. Oh yes and container ships. THE AN 225 is the world s heaviest and largest aircraft with a pressurized cargo hold of 1,300m 3 Some air charter stories are more epic than others. This one started when a global electronics company set out on a major sales campaign, starting inchina. All went well. The team travelled across China in a specially adapted train, filled with all the very latest technology. Contacts and sales were made. The whole train was then transferred onto a sea container ship bound for San Francisco. And that s when mother nature intervened. The ship was delayed by bad weather, putting the tour schedule at risk, so a decision was made to divert to Hawaii and that was when we got the call. Could we charter a very large plane to take a whole train to San Francisco, double quick? Of course we could. The problems didn t end there. The train containers were packed right at the bottom of the hold, so the whole ship had to be unloaded to access them. Next we arranged transfer to the airport, where an Antonov 225 was waiting to load the train carriages. They were flown straight to San Francsico, just in time to get the show on the road. It was an epic journey but thankfully, one with a very happy ending.
