8 Morristown Airport Highlighted in NJ BIZ Article CoMMUnity Messages This excerpt was shared with permission from NJBIZ. For the full story, visit Morristown Airport is the third-busiest airport in New Jersey, averaging nearly 70,000 private and corporate flights per year. It is Maria Sheridan s job to make sure that more people, especially those in the business community, know what the 638-acre facility, known as MMU, can offer services compared with Newark Liberty International and Teterboro. I love having the opportunity to educate the public on what we do and how we are an economic engine, she said. According to a study conducted by the New Jersey Department of Transportation last year, MMU s tenants and visitors provide an estimated $187 million in spending and more than $13 million in tax benefits to the greater Morris County area a fact that Sheridan, senior director of government affairs and business development for DM AIRPORTS, LTD., said she often refers to when helping market for the private company that operates MMU on behalf of the town of Morristown. Her work not only has helped increase awareness and use of the airport, but also earned her a spot as one of this year s NJBIZ Best 50 Women in Business in an industry that is often male-dominated. When I attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, I didn t realize until I showed up that it was a 20-to-1 male-to-female ratio, Sheridan said. It used to be that many people in the aviation industry came out of the military, which was male-dominated, too. Now, many more employees are coming out of colleges and universities with aviation programs, so I think that has helped to increase diversity. Upon graduating from Embry-Riddle, Sheridan initially planned to continue her studies at what was then ComAir Aviation Academy (now Aerosim Flight Academy). When she decided that she no longer wished to continue pursuing a career as a pilot, Sheridan found work at MMU in airport operations. A lot has changed since she began her career there in 1991, she said. Click Here to Read the Full Story Page 7

10 Our MMU Family SFS Welcomes New Duty Manager to MMU When you did officially start with Signature Morristown? What about the industry made you want to make a career out of it? I started Monday, June 26 Where did you work before coming to MMU? I spent the last five years in Las Vegas (SFS at McCarran International Airport), so I was there from April 2012 until I came here. And before that, I had 11 years experience in Palm Springs which is where I was born and raised. Is Palm Springs where you got your start in aviation? Yes, I started as a CSR (Customer Service Representative) at the front desk right out of high school with no aviation experience. It was just a better paying job than Baskin Robbins. Then I just fell in love with it and I knew that s what I wanted to do career-wise... to stay in aviation, general aviation specifically. I love the people, I really do. Sometimes you get the one-offs, but for the most part, I love that as much as it can be the same thing every day, it s so different every day too. Just the people and the experience working on the ramp, really. I did a lot of ramp work, did a lot of fueling, fueled the airlines, I ve been tow qualified for years and just seeing the different kinds of planes. I m also a big military aircraft buff, so every base I ve worked at we ve had the government contracts. I ve been able to see all those planes that come in and enjoy that too. What have you liked the most about Morristown since starting here? I like the smaller airport feel. It reminds me a lot of Palm Springs where we have a lot of based customers, the flight schools and hangar tenants. In Vegas, it was so big where no one is based there and everyone is just there to come in, drop and go. I like the smaller airport feel where you know all the tenants, you know the airport ops. It s just a good relationship and that s what I ve really enjoyed about Morristown so far. Kim Stinson, SFS Morristown s new Duty Manager, brings more than 16 years of experience to Morristown Airport. Page 9
